I saw this live and it was big news back then. Al Sanders and Jerry Turner were the best male newscasters in Baltimore and in the country. Thanks for these clips!

@jhshifris1 Sanders died of lung cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital, 5/5/95.Before he joined WJZ-TV in 1972, their news was mired in 3rd place: WBAL-TV was #1, WMAR-TV was #2. Saunders became a news anchor in 1977. Three years later, WJZ with Jerry Turner, Sanders, Bob Turk (weather) and Nick Charles (sports) were a runaway #1, with more viewers than their competitors combined. He anchored solo after Jerry Turner died in 1987 'til Denise Koch was made partner a year later. (Source: Wikipedia)
