  • A classic song of its time and genre. I remember it well.

Now its been given the HIM treatment, and is nothing the worse for that. As a 50 something HIM fan, and of all good music it is awesome. Each to their own, but open your minds and ears and there is a great song to be heard here!

  • lot differnt tune then the original BOC but very cool twist to the song

  • Lol

  • It is a shame that they totally butchered this song :(

  • Oh, and don't forget: The slave owning Spartans sided with the Persians after Thermopylae to destroy Athens. But of course this wasn't shown in the movie, either. So, very few US Consumers are even aware of it.

  • @ImoenOfTelengard who gives a shit?

  • @ImoenOfTelengard don't be a dick....just saying.

  • The Spartans were as god-like as southern slave owners in the US. But for some reason, we love the Spartans and hate southern hick slave owners. Go figure.

  • @ImoenOfTelengard You forgot to mention, Spartans did own slaves but it wasn't say, a black person. They got their slaves through conquest. They conquered a nearby greek city and turned them into slaves. It wasn't the racist slavery we are familiar with, it was slavery based on conquest and capture. Slavery has been a big part of every civilization. US is no different, we went through our slavery phase and got through it. So chill the fuck out with 3 posts on slavery. It's over with, move on.

  • HAHA! "Ask what a free man would do." WHATEVER. The Spartans were big into owning and torturing slaves. But I guess most US Consumers wouldn't know that since Spartan slavery wasn't depicted in the movie.

More like: "Ask what a Spartan slave master would do to keep their slaves."

  • awesome song man, ive always preferred HIMs version of this song better, just because of the mystique that him carry as a band, especially ville. i dont think any band accept him could ever cover this and make it work this well

  • I didn't think it was possible, but it is possible for someone to make Don't Fear the Reaper sound horrible. I hate this cover. I love the Blue Oyster Cult original version.

  • This is madness!

    Madness? THIS

    IS

    SHIT

  • they raped a epic song!

  • @MrWooaa they didn't rape an epic song, they beat its ass and made it sound better

  • @2ballswaxed lol,yea, sure they did

  • the original is 100 times better than this crap HIM fucking ruins this song!

  • Garbage. Not even close to the excellence of the Original Blue Oyster Cult tune.

  • Dislike, I think covers are over done, and its lame attempt to cover the original by B.O.C.

  • :WARNING... SONG RAPE DETECTED:

  • Well they really fucked this song up.Nothing, not even more cowbell can help this shit.

  • The song is good, sometimes it's hit or miss with covers. Most rarely ever live up to the originals. The slowness of the song seems to emphasize the message I took from the song. Let go of the fear of death, because it prevents you from enjoying what is ahead of you. Some people look for the darkest message in songs, others look for the message of hope. Whatever message you find makes little difference to other peoples opinions. Death comes for everyone... no sense in worrying about it.

  • Pretty awesome video. I like this version of that song more than the original.

  • what pleasure do you ladies get out of bitching about noon relevant shit?

  • This cover is too slow.

  • Amazing cover, I prefer this than original A LOT <3

  • I don't think anyone can replicate this song to the same standards as BOC.

  • I like the Blue oyster Cult version better but this vidieo is cooler.

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • everyone hates it, why the hell do Iove it so much then?

  • Wow, this is a horrible cover!

  • @lumberjack5 agreed

  • OMG this song has been butchered :(

  • song is totally raped.. and I like HIM. :(

  • good song,good cover!

  • this doesn't need a cowbell, it needs a GONG!

  • BTW, when fighting the Spartans, armor doesnt help....... AT ALLLLLLLLL!

  • Why did it have to be the HIM version?

  • Thats brutle jesus what a mess they made of it

    Lyn From Scotland

  • omg this song got BUTCHERD

  • H.I.M. Gives Don't Fear the Reaper a More Gothic Feel, Wich Perfectly Resembles a Song such as this. I'd Rather Hear Ville Valo Sing this song than Most any other band, he Gives it a Very Sorrow Filled Sound, and the Style of the Song changed it into a Love Song in a Way, wich is what Blue Oyster Cult originally Intended.......Learn your shit before you Learn to hate it.

  • WHERES THE COWBELL???

    FAIL

  • Now, now, ladies and germs. All this re-toric negative comment. Purists all.... Well, even purists die. Who will remember the difference except you? As you take it to your grave. "Nay" said the King. But he died too..... Him's version of the song is more soulful than BOC. After all, Don't fear The Reaper baby!

  • they murdered the original song by blue oyster cult...i mean if they were so called music lovers, they would have made a better choice, absolutely disgusting

  • Bad, baaad version. It loss the melodicity and feeling of the original, by making it a crappy version of him meets lacuna coil. Bleah, too bad I clicked on the link moved by curiosity!

  • good but i prefer the original

  • Dont really like HIM's take on this song but I think it goes really well with the video nice job.

  • HIM has a good take on this song when it comes to instrumentation but HIS voice sux my 6 yr old bro sings better

  • I like B O C better, but I do love the darker guitar sound. If the sound quality was this good on B O C it would be perfect. and actually there is a new live version that is amazing.

  • They say curiosity killed the cat... I curse myself for being curious to click on the link to this

  • fail remake of one of the best songs ever.

  • Even cowbell can't make this better...

  • cm on baby! don't fear the reaper!! just fear HIM!!!!!!!!!! what an orrible cover

  • terrible

  • wow i like this version way better than B.O.C's

  • @metal5395 i agree this blows!

  • This version always males it sound like it's about killing yourself the opposite of the meaning of the BOC one.

  • Now, Now, Ladies & Germs. Do not be so critical. Both bands get the point across very well. I am a "BIG" fan of Blue Oyster. After all, I used to do sound for them before they were Supposedly "Famous". Just ask Pastore music or Howard Stern, Bobby's cousin. :)

  • Agree w/ all except for BassVirtual...

have you heard other Blue Oyster Cult songs...they are a rock band so the riff should sound a little "rocky"... if u want somber and mysterious... then have your emo band cover it...

    Go Go Godzilla!

  • not even more cowbell can save this shit lol.

  • AYHHAHHAHAHHAHHAHHA

    ROOOOOFL!

HIM got no prescription for their fever XD

  • Omg this version sucks. Blue Oyster Cult should be the only ones allowed to play this.

  • Agreed. Unless they add cowbell and not sing like a total fag.

  • this is fucking awefull and an insult to boc

  • @deathbysexyrocks Completely Correct !!!!!!!

  • I think the riff is better in this version, it's somber and mysterious, the original sounds too "rocky". Otherwise it's inferior, with two major flaws: 1) that convoluted and aimless "electronic sounds" passage in the middle; 2) the female vocalist sounds AWFUL during the chorus...

  • i dont like it..this girl is singing awfull.i dont like it..i love blue oyster cult and the real one

  • I can imagine they are good, but pelase dont ruin this legand of a song

  • all I smell is shit

  • Prime example of why songs should not be remade.

  • ...Everything about this is wrong

  • Seconded.

  • its good i just dont really like the intro on this band because i love the intro of this song on the orginal its the best part when u play it on the guitar

  • BOC for the win...i dislike this version

  • wheres the cowbell?

  • 1 star. go blue oyster cult

  • :( no cowbell

  • They remade it and they didn't even put some more cowbell

  • hyper, btw, HIM is not better than Blue Oyster Cult, the original is so much better than HIM's

  • agreed

  • Song is rubbish too slow, better with the oyster, video ok.Thanks for posting.

  • This version is Terrible

  • @slicknick05991 yeah it is. nothing beats the classics(:

  • what the hell is this!?!?!?!?

  • it's a crappy remake of a classic song -_-

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • where the cowbell?

  • the original version is soooooo much better!!!

  • As for the video itself, it isn't bad, which means it was better than I was expecting. Simply because you choose a slower cover of an already slow song and set it to 300, a scene where at least 300 people die in epic battle. Just saying, you weren't giving yourself a lot to work with; two great flavors that just don't mix well. Great effort though,

  • The song isn't about suicide, it's about love transcending death; it's not about intentionally bringing death about. At least originally that was the case, this cover seems to be different.

  • good job on the vid

  • this sucks

  • atrocious

  • Too Slow, if only it was faster............

  • him version of dont fear the reaper sux

  • HIM needs to stay away from the covers. This SUCKS!!

  • Badass, this version is soo fucking cool!!!

H.I.M. is def one of the best euro bands out there =)

  • wtf

  • i love gus blacks version

  • im sorry.... but yeah i like him they have good songs but no sorry this remake sucks ass.... its just no matter how good u r u cant remake this song plus this song about doing suicide this is movie about war...

  • Is going to war not partially suicidal? Especially in this particular circumstance?

  • um well suicide is killing urself... and this song is about the guy singing to his lover about both of em taking their life. and the 300 Spartans (and no not the movie cuz its pretty much all wrong besides the general topic) were going to thamopalie for 2 reasons unlike the movie they went because the oracle said the son of Herculie must sacrifice himself to save the land and 1 of the kings (there were 2 kings 1 was a warrior other political) thought he was that son. and went to give spartan tim

  • Thanks for the attempt at a history lesson sweetheart. I know the story. I took history class too. The idea of one lover telling the other "Don't fear the reaper" is somewhat reflected in the movie. The beginning clip, in which Queen Gorgo tells King Leonidas to man up reflects the idea of not fearing death.

  • 1st of all the song is about both of em killing each them selfs..so going to war and suicide is diferent.....

  • Would you care to elaborate? Dude, if you want to argue this stupid pointless crap, then cool, I'm down. But perhaps you should say something a little more intelligent, so maybe I'll have something to actually argue with. I'm pretty sure we've already been over this song being about lover's suicide. And I'm pretty sure you already said war and suicide aren't the same thing. Say something worth reading.

  • @blazergamer99 The song is about eternal love.

  • @RichardRichard987654 no it isnt.. im done argueing on this topic... when blue oyster cult made this song it was for the reason of him asknig his girl to commit suicide with him.. i guess people can say oh its eternal love but u sound like a fucking idiot.. not point of song

  • @blazergamer99 buck dharma is upset at people like you. the song is about coming to terms that death is inevitable and to not "fear the reaper", not about suicide. do some research

  • Dont Fear the Reaper is not about suicide it is about transcending death. Buck Dharma himself said that it was basically a love song where their love transcends death. In my humble opinion this song is quite fitting for war, however, this rendition definatly sucks

  • @TripMyWire00 @TripMyWire00 & blazergamer99: I don't want to throw gasoline on the (8-month-old) fire or anything, but I thought Dharma said that this song was about love transcending death, not about murder-suicide. I think it's possible to viably interpret the song either way (good poetry is often ambiguous), and this latter interpretation definitely seems to fit with the idea of the video - the characters' love will go on beyond their physical deaths, so death needn't be feared.

  • spartan women are the only women who give birth to real men. BOOOM

  • why are you here then?

  • the original version by blue oyster cult is much better (i think)

  • There is no think. It is, because Blue Öyster Cult are gods and HIM tends to just pose as gods. Like a pretty cool posterboard of an actor is to the real thing.

  • No doubt man, H.I.M's good too though

  • no they dont!! they have played a few covers but they usually play their own songs. get ur info right b4 you comment!! =/

  • Ehheh, good joke?

  • Jesus christ people, it's a song. Get over yourselves and either listen or don't. Just don't waste your time commenting how crappy it is so that I have to waste my time telling you you're retarded.

Though I agree, the original is best, and Gus' version is very beautiful..

  • This is better than the original but not the BEST version I heard. The best one is the all acoustic one by some guy named GUS. It's off the Scream Soundtrack. By far the best version. Somehow, to me, this song is better when it's NOT a rock song.

  • better than the original? pshahahahahaha

  • Oh man this is an awful cover o_O

  • Well said....now I consider HIM a bunch of whiny ass faggots...this makes me want to throw up....such shitty garbage music

  • You clearly have no clue what you're talking about, man.

  • no I know EXACTLY what I am talking about. This is some gay ass emo bullshit

  • You are a stupid asshole, HIM rocks!

  • crap

  • fuck u all him is sick

  • this song is one of the most beautiful song of H.I.M. and one of the greatest lovesong. This is the real love... as romeo and julia. Fantastic!!

  • Come and get some you NWO fucks!! the is for the free in the U,S.

  • What? What does the New World Order, (which is bullshit by the way) have to do with this video? HIM sucks too.

  • omg, why does this band gotta ruin a great fucking song, HIM FUCKING SUCKS!

  • fuck you him!!!!!! and her..... and the guy next to him and all... fuck all of you him lovers.... go fucking watch twilight and die!!! Blue Oyster Cult is way better than this shit...!!!

  • i'm with you.

  • i love him for ever and ever

  • sparta mother fuckers

  • eh, bunch of enslaving boy fuckers like the rest of greece at the time :P

  • They all dehumanized their tribuaries at the time.

The 'Barbarian' tribes to the north had 'Thralls' which if you research it and were just slaves taken from destroyed villages.

Democracy in ancient greece was not as we knew it, but it was representative voting of citizens, which was a new concept at the time, even if not all people could vote. Previous forms of government no one could vote, it was the whim of a God-Emperor.

  • Well, in the greek model of democracy (and that was just in Athens, btw) it wasn't about voting - it was about being in the government and voting on things.

    You had to:

    - be male

    - over 18

    - having undergone military training

    - be the child of two athenian citizens

  • I gotta FEVER!

  • Haha

  • sorry but the original destroys this cover by 5 million light years, switch the songs please

  • if it aint broke, dont fix it

  • well what do you know HIM fucked up a great song well..cant say im suprised

  • original is better, but i like the vid .......

  • His infermal majesty's version of this song is completely pathetic. Sever your ties is 10X better and they arent even signed.

  • the visual direction of this movie was amazing... so was the historical accuraccy ... however the story sucked... the visuals were so impressive it alone made me love this movie

  • The historical what?

    I mean, seriously?

  • @sidremus heard the irst time 20 seconds of the song and must say: its bullshit compared to the original.

  • omg this song definatly needs more cowbell.....

  • MORE COWBELL!

  • why all the haters all are talking..if u dont like the band then stop wasting ur time talking about how bad they are..and stop lissining to the song..bich

  • 99% of the comments are BS

dont like the song? dont listen!

dont like the visuals? look away!

dont like neither? well, you sir are on the wrong video i think!!

the title says it all. nobody forced you to watch it.

    so please stop spam-trolling

  • Not bad, but the cowbell is lacking.

  • You know what this song needs less of?

    Needs less terrible.

  • i agree, this cover sucks monkey balls. Blue Oyster Cult all the way

  • this might sound naive... but, was this song IN 300? just curious. thanks!

  • no....

  • And to the guy who made the "emo" comment, I am a die hard classic rock and early metal fan, and even I know this shit is not emo. Sure this music isnt my personal favourite, but it is to others. So get your facts straight before giving shit to others peoples music, just a heads up.

  • The original is definately always better. But Ville Valo has an amazing voice so therefore I don't mind his cover !

  • I agree man, die hard HIM fan

  • nice version

  • Dude, I can get a blowjob faster than HIM singing this song.

  • he's chosen the scenes for the part of the song

  • i love 300 and i love the song...not so much him but i like his version....but this video sux...seriously just random scenes from the movie meh
