@jhino25 i don't think the bass is active. but it sure sounds awesome. I own an sx too. modified it with an artec preamp and wilkinson pickups. the thing sure growls now. i super love it. (demo video is uploaded in my youtube page)
Okay, I am not going to lie, this bass sounded....
FANTASTIC!! I've been watching multiple videos of SX Jazz basses and I am convinced that no matter how these basses are built, or the tonewoods or construction is, these things always sound fantastic. How does it feel, though?
@WoWintosh It feels pretty darn good... I worked on the nut slot for the E-string and brought the action down to match the other strings. After doing that, changing strings, and performing a setup I can get the action almost as low as my Laklands. Feels fantastic!
@WoWintosh They are great basses, especially for the money, BUT there is the occasional lemon, so you just have to be aware of that when you buy one. Luckily Rondo is great about doing full refunds (shipping and all) if the bass is legitimately defective.
They also often arrive needing a setup, so do try that before you decide it's a lemon. But you can put in a little work and get a great bass for under $200. My 2 main basses are SX-- a P/J swamp ash jazz and a fretless J/J alder jazz.
@maxproud it's been so long since I recorded that I can't remember exactly what I used. There is no internal preamp, and if I did use one it was a Sadowsky outboard preamp with a slight amount of bass/treble boost, and then into a compressor. I am almost certain though that I didn't use a preamp and just went straight in.
@amagomes yes... these are the stock SX pickups. for this video I believe I was running through a Sadowsky outboard preamp, but with very little added EQ. what you hear is the stock SX sound for the most part.
Ok .. for me is surprise ... here in Brazil the original SX pickups are pretty bad ... but surely, even in his case, the pre Sadowsky influence, is very good, the sound ...
@amagomes Certainly! I agree that the bass sounds great even without the Sadowsky preamp. In fact, in the time since I made this video I don't even use the Sadowsky anymore. The bass still sounds fantastic!
I love this bass :D

japan?

@jhino25 - The bass was made in China actually... all SX basses are. I did a complete setup on it and use a preamp with the bass (Sadowsky usually).

@MrLuvBass How did you exactly do that? Would it be possible on a SJB57?

Nice touch with the harmonics and chords, it gives it a real cool variety when you have slap before and after. Good job!

Great equalization on that "SX"! You put a preamp in that bass? Or do you have a good amp with graphic "EQ" on it?!
