  • I been going to the orthodontist since Feb 2, 2006. Got gum grafted in April 2007, braces in June 2007, upper and lower jaw surgery in 2008 and still wearing the braces. Wearing those damn elastics. I am really fed-up with the braces. Wearing elastics 24hrs / 7 days a week is such a chore. I am upset but i have no choices. I am from NB and am a very adult ADULT with braces. Do you have a suggestion on how to celebrate when done with it?

  • Im getting braces Aug 5th, Im a little nervous, but I have confidence in my orthodontist he did a great job on my 14 yr. old son's teeth, I have always had a severe overbite and my mother never took the time to get me braces so I decided to do it for myself. I wonder if I will look like a different person, Ive been this way for 40 yrs.

  • Hello Desiree...

Have you tried Sturdyfloss yet? It is new and works great to floss your teeth.

  • No, I have not used that product, but it is very similar in appearance to superfloss. Good stuff!

  • I know this is a bit of topic of braces but I was just wondering about your nursing I'm interested in completing a nursing/ midwifery course when my daughter is in school. Any tips for me?

    Would be appreciated.

  • sorry... as said to the previous commenter... I've been away from you-tube. Anyway... I don't really know what to say as I went into nursing while I was child-free. YOu will have much to study and prepare, so I guess you mainly need to find some time to work on the necessary work you bring home. I think that you are a mature student, you may well do better than the younger ones with less responsibility.

  • I'm getting my braces tomorrow, thank you and wish me luck!!

  • I'm sorry... been absent a while... but very Be-lated... good luck!

  • thanks again, I've got my braces for almost two months now and I am working on my tone on the flute!

  • do you think peoples teeth increase in size after there experience with braces.

    mine gotten bigger

  • I don't think they really get bigger, but seem bigger after having the metal removed.

  • No... they just seem bigger as while the braces are on they are obliterated by the brackets and wires partially, so when exposed fully again there seems to be much more surface area... too, likely if crowding was an issue then the braces move them apart exposing more surface making them seem larger too.

  • That's expensive! I get it free because I'm under 16! I'm getting braces, May 7th(2008)! Aaaargh!!! I need advice! I'm really nervous! Yet, I'm exited about the end result!

    I need "advice"!!!!

  • Hi... sorry, not been around lately... has your dentist/orthodontist or any friends helped you with the advice you needed?

  • Hi, I found out that it was just a check up to confirm what type of braces I'm getting etc. The day I'm actually getting braces is July 11th! My dentist DID give me advice and told me it would take about an hour. :)

  • In your treatment... has there been any aplliances attached to your braces ?? like patatal expander(ect.)

  • No, I've not had any palatial expanders. Only springs, extra wire, and power chains... oh, and orthodontic elastics.

  • you have such a cute smile ^_^ im having a ceramic braces and extracted 4 of my teeth :( it hurts alot .. " i hope you undestand my languge because my english is week ehh ehh "

  • ouch.. I can imagine 4 extractions hurt! Thanks for the smile comment, my smile is going through change along with my teeth... in the end I'm sure it is better than before treatment.

  • are you planning on file the tax return for your ortho treatment?

  • I don't know... didn't add it in my taxes last year... I have a good portion of the cost covered between my health benefits and hubbys... so was just paying off the rest and leaving it as far as I know. (hubby tends to take care of tax forms).

  • Hello! I was just sitting down on the couch relaxing and all of sudden heard by name! Awesome, thanks for answering that question on video. I've checked out the flossing videos but they don't show much of flossing molars. I thought that would be much difficult.I guess I'll find out once I get the wires on. Very nice with your progress, teeth are looking much straighter!

  • no problem. Molars are a bit tricker, you have to stretch your lips/cheeks out of the way. Thanks (for the progress observation)... I do see definite improvement.

  • Were you self-conscience when you first got your braces? I am 39 and am only in my 3rd week with Damon braces. I hoped to get clear ceramics but my orthodontist suggested Damons instead. While I'm working on my great smile, I'm having a little trouble getting past the silver smile! Any advice?

  • I was rather self-conscious initially, but have since got more comfortable with the braces and too noticed more adults with braces which 'normalizes' the experience. Just keep your silver smile all clean and shiny and you will be fine... much more noticeable if you have lettuce stuck in them!

  • your teeth are pretty straight :) Im suprised you got braces

  • The bottoms, in particular were crowded and very difficult to floss and properly clean, in addition there was a definite malocclusion and I had repeat chipping from the malalignment. I had two teeth in particular on the bottom built up more than once by bonding to 'fix' the problem, but that was not a permanent fix. So... hopefully this will all be resolved by the treatment.

  • when do you think you will get the braces off

Will you need a permanent retainer?

  • I don't know when they are coming off... whenever they are straight enough? The problem is they can only predict as teeth move at different rates. As for retainer, he has led me to believe I'll have the kind you put in part time.

  • great*

  • thanks.

  • u messed up my name too, but oh well

BTW, ur bottoms look so reat

  • oops... sorry!

  • Orthodontic headgear attaches to the back of the mouth not the front. Everyone with braces has two headgear brackets. Their just the last brackets on the top teeth. That bracket has a little tube where the headgear slides in.

  • Thank you for your clarification.

  • Hey Desiree you where nice enough to put my username "Lizzieloco2" thank you I appreciate it but when I heard that I first got terrified and then excited thank you Desiree.

  • Sorry to give you a fright, but glad it was short-lived!

  • Yes it's now ok.

  • You do such a nice job with your videos! :)

  • Thanks, Sharonad.

  • Desiree, no problem on the Discomom thing! That is actually the name I wanted but it was taken. I have to say that I LOVE your videos and look forward to seeing them each month. I am now 3 months down the road. Just had my 3rd adjustment. Things are going ok still getting used to adjustment day, and the soreness. This is my second time around, remember so I kind of remember. Take care and keep doing videos, LOVE THEM!!!! Lori

  • I must add a correction, discomom63 is supposed to be "discomum63" .... my error!

  • Thanks Lori for the feedback, it is always appreciated, and sorry your name was already taken.

  • Thanks for the update; I've enjoyed watching your videos!

  • your welcome... I guess the enjoyment is a two-way event, I do enjoy sharing this experience!
