I still ride at the same trails that Steve Kitchin and the Animal team are on , And even after all these years they still dont like people riding mountain bikes there because it causes damage . Well recently the council and local wildlife trust have cut all the tree's down and destroyed acres of land with diggers and tractors causing more damage than mountain bikers could do in over 1000 years , and they still have the cheek to say we are destroying the land . What a bunch of wankers !
@TheGreasedWeasel Me too. I dabbled at learning and sucked at it really badly for about an hour in total spread over a couple of years. In the end, getting in over my head and trying to drop off a 3 foot concrete block which instead turned into a 3 foot drop directly onto my knee sent me scurrying back to the hills where I belonged. Haha.
@thirteenfingers I too tried on and foof for years on local streets with my mates, school yards after hours, steps, cuttings etc round housing estates. I was really cack at trials - no point dressing it up. I would like to get a more modern trial type bike if I could find a second hand one going and have another crack at it. That reminder from being a teenager still makes me want to try it.
@3000ST1 Just one thing to say... think back to the letters page of MBUK and the frequent stories of people "pumping up the tyres" and getting back on their bike... and finding out soon after that they don't bounce anything LIKE they used to as a young'un when the come off.
Best of luck though... I've started riding (hills again, I've learned my lesson with trials) in the past year or so and it's even better than I was back then - I've got skills I never used to, oddly.
@thirteenfingers Yeah I recall letters like that, maybe digging out the old elbow and knee pads that used to be used for dirt jumping might be a good idea. I found my trail and hill riding got better over time - probably more of me to manhandle the bike around than there was back then.
@thirteenfingers While I'm on the subject, Ashton did end up breaking his back some years after this vid was made. Fortunately he made a full recovery.

wonder where my fully rigid 96 GT backwoods is these days. Used to have so much balls as a teenager (zero skill).

This has made me miss my Orange Ms Isle. I went from trails to trials on that thing when I was younger. Thanks for uploading.

I used to watch this video religiously. My friends and I would quote it endlessly. Great soundtrack as well. Thanks for uploading.

@3000ST1 I found that I understood the fundamentals more when I got back... avoiding breaking on the bends, for example.
Counter steering makes sense to me now.
I could never get myself to commit to berms either but now I'm usually able to chuck it in and hang on for the ride.
A lot of that stuff never sunk in as a young'un.
I think you're right about being big enough to dominate the bike too. I'm sure that comes into it.
I remember Ashton's back. That was scary for a while.
