  • @jsand93 go wiki it, see the difference

  • @jsand93 there are also giant chinese salamanders you idiot

  • st. louis zoo is one of the nicest caring zoos ive ever been too, great place to go and it is free!

  • @Guaranteedfresh1 I have to agree with you. It really is the best zoo ive ever been to in my entire life. Especially the fact that its free, and its gonna stay free, shows that St. Louis really cares about its people. I'll love this city till I die.

  • why the fuck would you put your hand by it? haha It has poor vision but compensates for this via sensory cells that run along its face and lateral line that can detect vibration. It might appear mal-adapted, mind you amphibian pre-existed chordates and are only becoming endangered through our ignorance.

  • @slickdrummer Amphibians are Chordates. what you mean is that they Pre-date the Amniotic tetropods . bearing far more resemblance to the eariler stegacephalian fishes then to any land animal proper.

  • i would love to see a battle between a giant salamander and a panda.

  • This thing is a living fossil!

  • koolosuchus from walking with dinosaurs!!!

  • amazing animal, a throwback to a bygone era

  • Poor thing...

  • Aww. I really hope this was just a holding tank for the little guy. From what we can see, that really doesn't look like a good long-term habitat for a giant salamander.

  • I've seen some specials on these guys before, and believe it or not, he's actually better off in the zoo. Their entire species is at risk for extinction because of polution...they live in small creeks and streams in china (and japan), which are getting more and more polluted every day.

  • I personally don't believe it to be. The descripition for the video says he was "behind the scenes" I assume they took him out of his natural enclosure for convience to the guest. (So they could show him the animal with out him having to walk around the zoo looking for it.)

  • lol yea thats definitely not its exhibit, the aquarium it lives in is very beautiful with rockwork and lives with other species. the st louis zoo is one of the top zoos; it actually AZA accredited. besides a zoo would not put an animal in a tank like that for public display.

  • i can assure that st louis zoo takes very good care of their animals. they were AZA accredited for a reason =)

  • when did they get this i was ther bout a month ago and i dident see it

  • awsome!!!! if they sold those id buy one in a heartbeat!!

  • Charmander!

  • Charmeleon

  • Charizard!

  • Agumon!!!! wait...shit

  • i wondr if it bites O.O

  • hell they do

  • This salamander is now on exhibit at the zoo. As well as hellbenders. You should go see it.

  • salamanders are amphibians

  • there are giant salamanders in the US called "hellbender salamanders"

  • I didn't even get a glimpse of it

  • dude i saw those there!

  • Does it eat babys?

  • Comment removed

  • i think the chinese giant salamander is the largest amphibian on earth

  • no, they are andrias davidianus, chinese.

  • There are Andrias Japonicus salamanders as well. It looked like that to me. I am no expert.
