  • im a boy but thus my sisters and im in 3rd grade and i have alot of peoples names on the old all stars

  • No one talks about him being among the greatest these days. They always go back to Jordan. Yeah, well the Doc set the standard -- for Jordan and the rest.

  • To bad great players have to get old..he was awesome

  • The Doctor. 'Nuff said.

  • the original mj

  • that rock the baby dunk will always be legendary

  • Love it. A legend and a class act.

  • dunks to sexy 4 me to watch :'b

  • Doctor J is one of 5 players ever to lead his team in points, rebounds, assist, steals and blocks. He even led all players in the ABA title series in those categories. He had a shoe contract before anybody else. My favorite player ever right there.

  • I'm probably the only won that thinks He's better than Jordan. Don't Judge me.

  • @xKiDxInSaNeX all around jordan is better

  • useing him on 2k12 rite now!

  • Dr j one of best ever. Also may want to consider his college days. Of of 5 players to average 20pts and 20rebs per game. Michael Jordan had a way better jump shot but Dr j was better rebounder over all his b-ball life. Dr J also started scoring less when he came to philly per his coach. Wanted him to be a team leader and player, to do more than just score. To me Dr j and MJ are an overall spitting image as u look back. If Dr J would not have changed his style of play he never had won 1983 champ

  • Before there was MJ, there was Dr. J. Jordon may have gotten many of his shooting moves from Dr. J.

  • i dont want dr. j's jumping or shooting or athletic ability or fame. i just want his afro.

  • A little overrated. THUMB ME DOWN BROTHAS.

  • he can palm the ball so easily...

  • Pure grace

  • extension!!

  • THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did Dr J only play for the Sixers ?

  • @essertpitay nets in the aba...but sixers was the only team he played for in the nba

  • He is good but isnt no MJ

  • @travis264 stop right there.

  • @travis264 MJ is no Dr J!

  • @MatrixFactoryGuy L0l You do realize you made no sense right? Idiot...

  • Wait, at about 0:30 after the epic amazing reverse layup, he jumped from the free throw line! Or, at least, within an inch of it. Why don't we hear more about that than Jordan's?

  • Wait, at 0:30 he jumped from the free throw line! Or, at least, within an inch of it. Why don't we hear more about that than Jordan's?

  • @unrealityproduction probably because people just bandwagon jordan too often, you should go see michael conley sr. 2 hand dunk from the freethrow line he was only 5'11 too

  • that white dude on the first dunk almost got the block

  • @GMisterr Haha, that white dude is Bill Walton, a hall of famer, and in that serious he did block the Doctor a few times,

  • Im really tired of looking at basketball videos and seeing the same comment on every one. "type 'short guys dunks' to see a 5'5" guy dunking a 10 foot hoop" please.. shut up.

  • Once he bites his bottom lip look out you know there is a great play on the way.

  • Intern J is a little bitch...and will always be a lil bitch. The way charles barkley held larry bird in a head lock and Intern J sucker punched Bird...THREE TIMES while being held...ROFL.....

BITCH...go back to your knitting and making dresses for yourself you girly-man

    Intern J...loser

  • aint noboby fucking wit dr. J bitches not even mike dog real talk

  • ok can someone please tell me , why isn't there atlite's as they were in the 70's / 80's / 90's .... I mean look at there arm's and legs ... why isn't a guy with that type of body wright now ?

  • @MrBballerr Dude, look at someone like Durant. And then consider that he doesn't look as gangly as those 70s and 80s guys do. It's very simple: They wore tight-fitting jerseys and those short shorts. It makes them look like they're all arms and legs.

I wish more people would recognize that fact, because it's why we're always hearing how the players are bigger and stronger now. Yes, the average b-ball player today does weigh a little more than in the mid-80s, but it's no where like people say

  • @MrBballerr They do....they just not wearing super short shorts and super tight jerseys now so u can see it as well

  • Jordan copied every single dunk i saw on here on the jordan highlights video i watched

  • @Cooley96 Well your ass is soooooooo dumb ok so stfu chi-town ftw!!!!!!1 Hating mf

  • @Etogona Ha what you mad about? It's true.

  • @Cooley96 he didnt copy, please use a better term.... Learn

  • @xlordongx But if someone was doing jordans dunks and you saw it you'd say they were copying. Jordan modestly admits to doing so also. What do you recommend I call it though? I'll say he watched Julius Ervings dunks and transformed them into his own style. Does that receive your approval?

  • @Cooley96 just stick to learn

  • :29 I saw his one on TV live as a kid. It cause me to pretend I was Dr J for years. Basketball coach was furious that I was doing these moves...ahh the memories!

  • Listen to Busta rhymes Shut em down or Pete rocks remix of shut em down-public enemy and look at clips of dr j or michael jordan or anyone from the 80'90's the shit is so sweet.

  • Dr. J never tried to destroy a rim... That's why he is the one and only Dr. J. Simply: The Best.

  • Dr. J put style in basketball. He's the reason why there are MJ's, Lebron's, Kobe's etc.

  • he palms the ball alot

  • id honestly say the doc was the greatest.

  • For the latest news on Julious Erving check on my featured video. I have updates almost every day

  • how tall is he?

  • @GayleTomson Originally listed at 6'7" earlier in his career, he then ended up being listed at 6'6". Must have been the afro he used in the ABA and in his first years in the NBA.

  • trust him, he's a doctor

  • * Glenn "Doc" Rivers got his nickname while at Marquette University for the "Dr. J" t-shirt he often wore to basketball practice. * Julius Erving was a hero to famous actor and rapper Will Smith. * Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers was named after Erving. * Erving was U.S. President Barack Obama's childhood sports hero; as a child, he had his posters up in his room.[9] * Erving's nickname "Dr. J" influenced rapper Dr. Dre's name

  • @CRKHB The moves he did was sick so man named their health officials doctors.

  • at 0:28 that has to be the best play I've ever seen

  • My alltime hero on a bball court. Only real physical comparisons r MJ, Kobe and possibly LJ. He was a HUGE attraction when Magic & Larry were still cutting their teeth. He didn't D as well as MJ & Kobe and his outside J was streaky. But i've never seen anyone more graceful to the hoop than Doc. That lampost throwdown ranks up there with K's skyhook, MJ's faceaway and Bird's catch n' pop, as the most unstoppable shots in NBA history. When I was a kid, his Converse AllStars were THE item.

  • 0:26 Greatest Dunk Ever done! Dr. J was the god of dunkers and beasts! Dr. J we miss your amazingly amazing highlight reels you gave us game in, game out. You were one of the best ever to play this sport if not the best ever.

  • Jordan wishes he could do all this.

  • The greatest ever period. Saw him play against George Gervin and the Spurs back in the day. Followed his career, was amazed by his prowess, his will to win, and his respect for the players and the game. Julius Erving will always be the greatest and those who watched him know exactly why. Thank you Doc!

  • Geez, it seems like the best way to get thumbs up on a youtube basketball video is to say something negative about LeBron James. There's like 50 videos up with the best response basically saying "this guy was better then LeBron."

  • dr. j was sitting at the table next to us at lunch today. pretty cool.

  • Dr. J and M.J, are awesome players , but the dunking is something that Vince Carter does way better.

  • the only reason his head looks up near the rim is because his nigger fro is 15 inches tall

  • @MolineScott You chose the wrong sport to say that word in....

  • he is the only man who can dunk from the freethrow line.

  • Fuck Lebron. Fuck two leg jumpers. They are not born to be basketball players. They play on strength. Fuck them. Every bigger guy can play these day's. Fuck that shit. This is basketball, this one leg jumper is an artist.

  • @siczg LOL dumb ass! two legged jumpers are not meant to play basketball?? are you kidding me?? 90% of jordans best in game dunks were off two feet.. every one knows that its all about the two legged vertical jump. good two legged jumps are much more athletic than people who can only jump off one leg! Lebron is a prime example of a guy who can only jump off one leg. his dunks of two legs are shit!! VC- 2 legs, MJ -2 legs , Wilkins- 2 legs.. get ur shit right before you make ignorant comments!!

  • @MolineScott

One leg jumpers are born to play, they have elegance, nice movent and basketball ''inteligence''. The greatest basketball players, are born one leg jumpers. Two leg jumpers can learn how to play b-ball, but they will never be the gretaest one's.

I rarely watch b-ball, but play it whole my life. It is a good advice to u. Stop watching, start to play. peace

  • @siczg Lebron a 2 Legged jumper?? Do you EVEN watch basketball?? Lebrons dunks of 2 legs are shitty!! he only gets his head up NEAR the rim off of 1 leg! the greatest dunkers are those off of two legs! its a lot harder to get ur head near the rim off of 2 legs rather than 1!! 2 legs you lose a lot of ur momentum and most of the power it takes to jump comes from ur legs. unlike 1 legged jumps you lose basiclly no momentum and thats where the power comes from! dumb shit

  • If you are over the age of 35 and ever loved basketball... you wanted to be the Dr.

Or at least have his hair.

  • if julius never came in so early and played in aba or if the nba includes aba then julius erving wud have had 4 champs and multiple mvp finals and mvps and have 30 thousand plus career points and prob beter than jordan

  • Classic Doctor J!

  • Julius, Magic, Bird, and Jordan all changed the way basketball was played, no one can replace them, no one can be them, they will always be the originals of basketball.

  • best dunker. BEAST!

  • awesome. love u dr.j

  • hahahahaha dr j was guarded by so many tall white people in this mix. no competition whatsoever.

  • @WhereTheCheeseAt Go slap yourself he played his NBA days in the great 80's the best years of basketball ever and still was known as a all time great

  • My god I wish I coulda seen this man play live.

  • he make it look so effortless.

Dr J. for sure makes the all-NBA youtube team

  • The greatest. Nobody does it like the doc.

  • Comment removed

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the Doctor slamming on Bill Walton.

And that wrap around underneath the hoop and around Kareem? There is no better move in the entire history of professional basketball on planet earth.

  • dr j is the greatest michael jordan looked up to him

  • dejan006 shit, I gained over 12 inches on my jump by finishing the workout system at "50inch vertical [dot] com". now being able to dunk is the least thing I have to worry about in a game now, lol

  • Before there was Micheal Jordan, there was Julius Erving-Dr. J!

  • my god that is sick! hey #VIDEOPOSTERID#, can you leap high enough to dunk? You need to take a look at this if you can't - (50 inch vertical [dot] com)

    Julius Erving Highlights

  • I was at the game where Doc made that between the legs to pass to Barkley. It was the one time I saw my childhood hero on the court, and that play became one his signature highlights. Late in his career, but still made one of the "NBA Fantastic" commercials. Remember those?

  • 0:30

    best shot

    ever

    period.

  • @minimeiskool thats the shot that solidified my want to play basketball

  • @minimeiskool It's a beautiful lay up. When he finished it, Magic Johnson said that he didn't know whether to inbound the ball or to ask him to do it again.

  • the ball palming while dunking make him my favorite. Long strides....wow

  • for real he gets like from the 3 line to the goal with 2 steps hahahaha

  • wow that ad is annoying

  • David thompson had the best jumping ability I've ever seen. He could take a quarter off the top of the backboard

  • dr.j has hands so big he can hold the ball with 3 fingers ... hes a giant!!

  • I'm Lakers fan forever and I remember that Cradle Dunk on Cooper. I was also a Dr J fan too when he didn't play the Lakers, but all I could remember back then when he dunked on Cooper, I was like, DAMNNNN......duck Coop!!! lol "FUCK...! That Dunk is gonna be a CLASSIC."

  • Julius was my idol growing up and was the inspiration for Michael, Dominique and that entire generation of players.

  • Exactly..When I was a kid, I saw Dr. J playing in the NBA & he was on the downside of his career at that point & he was STILL incredible LOL!! I look at footage from his ABA days when he was in his prime & I just marvel at how much of an athletic freak he was.

Imagine what he'd do in his prime vs today's soft ass perimeter def rules LOL!! These ignorant YouTube kids think that being big, strong, fast & athletic ONLY applies to today's players LOL!!

That's how ignorant & arrogant they are..

  • @blackadam06 word, they think players back then was anti athlethic...those fools

  • Unlike how it is in the modern game, Erving made his moves without taking 3 or 4 steps or creating offensive fouls. My favorite play is that reverse lay-up in the 80's playoff against Mark Landsberger and Kareem. Sweet move!

  • I think only MJ and Dr.J are the real AIR in whole NBA history.

They both can do those incredible reverse layup easily, time after time.

And Dr.J that reverse layup in 80s is the most grace one, he use only one hand.

  • @jimmychuang Don't leave out Clyde Drexler, Vince Carter, David Thompson

  • I never watched Thompson.

Clyde and Vince both great dunker and their hang-time all great, but they just can't do those beautiful moves in the air, their dunks are great/

  • I tried that baseline move, but ran out of hangtime and threw it off the bottom of the backboard 6" to 9" past the rim. Sheeeesh!!!!

  • 1:10 thru 1:30 were the best dunks

  • Drj's hands are HUGE!!!

  • OH MY GOD what a block on 0:43 !!! No chance to put it in !!!

  • now how the hell r u supposed to block this disaster?

  • what the dunk!

  • I can remember after the games on sundays, going outside to attempt to do all the moves i just seen DrJ do.

  • Air-Julius :D

  • 1:20 that´s crazy!!!!!!!

  • 01:27 lol...the opponent grabs him in mid air after the dunk

  • Opponent? lol EC brotha THAT's Magic. U in The Region?

  • 0:49 yeah

  • 0:32 was the best!

  • 0.48 !

    the ball hit his head!

  • its called a colon dumbass...use it

  • You cant compare MJ and Dr. J together because they were both really great players and they were in the top of being the greatest EVER to play the game.

  • dr j el mejor

  • Comparing doc and mj is not a fair comparison. one was a guard the other a forward. if you love grace, style, elegance, and smooth? no one has come close to the good doctor!

  • Doc is flying here he is extremegreat in his time. Jordan is great but if he said he never dreamed he was Doc growing up He's lying!!!!!!!! People still talk about the Doc with respect. You need to see some of those games from beginning to end.

  • @yennev While I rate Jordan higher than Dr J (jump shot, better defense) we have seen good enough copies of him but there is no one who remotely resembles him. Those moves have not been dublicated and the way he glides and gains momentum completely, breathtakingly unique. If I had played against him I would have deliberately had the ball stolen by him halfcourt to see him dunk.

  • @omnivorous65 he'd still steal it from you even if you didnt want him to :P

  • lol his dunks are so lengthy

  • this guy was amazing. he was the original seed of the NBA. without him the game wouldnt be the way it is today

  • connie hawkins was doing this stuff be fore erving...and baylor before him.....

  • Michael Jordan's prototype

  • Fucking classic. He was so graceful. All you see today are highlights of Lebron James (and the like) slamming it through the rim as hard as they can. He had real style, and was smooth enough to make everything look effortless.

  • so true man :P

  • @FailedStatus His biomechanics must have been special. His legs were unusually long. The way we gained height is just puzzling. But in some ways it worked against him. He was great in the open court but I doubt that is first step was that good. He needed some forward momentum to come into its own. But ones we was there,... oh my.

  • @FailedStatus Whats wrong with power dunking,do you want him to do some bitch ass soft dunks.Lebron is a better dunker than Dr.J now stop bitching

  • SI did an interesting article back 15 or 20 years ago about the most acrobatic dunkers/players in NBA history. As much as we love Dr. J he wasn't nearly the first person to fly and sky. In fact, his coach Billy Cunningham was known as a leaper, too. Having said this, Erving clearly had rare physical talent that perhaps only Jordan has equaled.

  • elgin baylor was the original player to take to the skies, that being said dr j turned into what it is today.

  • i saw him play in the later stage of his career....not what he was but still good....like watching Shaq play now...

  • All I'm saying is practice...

  • is he better dunker than jordan?

  • whats the name of the background music?

  • Jesus, he just skates on everyone

  • michael jordan learned from this guy

  • 1:20 - 1:23 looked very olympic lol

  • I forgot about the slam at 1:27 when all Magic could do was catch the Doc after the slam XD

  • i thought jordan was the only 1 who can do the free throw dunk!

  • yeah, jordan never dunked on three players from the free throw line

  • where do you think he got the idea from...???

  • No way! Dr J did it first! Dr J did it games. Maybe not behind the line but he's ducked several times near the fouline in games

  • 0:26-30...

    Un----believ----able!!!

  • Dr. J was one gifted player. He can elevate at ease and most of all, he's got some of the biggest hands in the history of the sport. Notice how he easily palmed the ball with one hand and waved it around. No one in the NBA today does this thing.

  • vC when he dunks on the slamdunk contest

  • connie hawkins old school nba/globe troter/aba semi-pro player had hands like doc. connie could do all of docs moves, doc made his game like connie hawkins because they both had huge hands and could palm the rock like a tennis ball.

  • Dr J had the air like Mike and the power like Nique.

  • If you see when Dr J incredible Block to me, write in you tube:

"Cuando Dr J me metió un tremendo tapón"

  • 0:29 THE BEST MOVE EVER

  • Damn that hangtime! and those hands :P

  • the doctor... best of the best

  • look how long his arms are

  • I have always considered Dr J, Vince Carter and Dominque Wilkens the three best dunkers but nobody could sky like the doctor.

  • Yeah, I saw Doc from the very begining when he came into the NBA. What he had was the ability to take off and float from 10 and 15 feet away from the basket. That made almost everything he did very exciting! Most guys can go straight up, but not up and out the way he did.

  • When it comes to defying gravity, Dr. J was #1, Clyde the glyde a close #2 They showed grace and power at the same time.

  • amazing, the behind tthe back to barkley, thats legendary, im suprised we dont c more of that play on tv

  • i thought he only did commercials but that was sick

  • 1:21 one of the best dunks ever

  • man.....dr. j was a gift to basketball

    he my favorite =).

  • damn those hands of Dr J. Are they full with glue of something?

  • i hate it when michael jordon is assumed to be the best at everything... he may be the greatest of all time, but he isnt the best dunker... it was Dr. J

  • Dr.J was a very good dunker but VC and MJ did some better dunks than the Doctor dunks.

  • Dr J was more a Pionier than VC but I also like the dunks of VC

  • No way. I'll take a glider like drexler and Dr J than vertical leaper like VC. Thats boring. Someone swooping on their oppenants from damn near the fouline in games is wayyy more beautiful

  • He aint the greatest of all time in my opinion. Theres other players that accomplished more than Jordan

  • for example...Bill Russel

  • Exactly but these faggot jordan dick riders want to give me thumbs down. Im not saying MIke aint great. Mike is great. BUt guys like Kareem,Russell accomplished more. Shit if Jordan was going against prime bird and magic he would have all them damn rings trust that. Give me a thumbs down jordan dick riders. Hate the truth

  • magic johnson and oscar robertson were the best "basket ball" players. how anyone can argue this is beyond me.
