  • the corn exchange lololool

  • Seems Mandrax /Randy Mandies is same as Quaaludes

  • @marmas58ink Yup, Mandrax is what killed Billy Mercia the original drummer from the New York Dolls around that time. 72....I think. It's a seriously heavy drug.

  • 5:14 Robyn Hitchcock, "..the words were a very dense thickets of imagery - actually I hate that word imagery."

Struck me as odd... guess he rejected it cause it sounds too 'academic'. ...makes it sound as if the boy'd been 'schooled' - which I'm pretty sure RH was! (Went to, I think, some rather prestigious university.)

"They were basically thickets of words" (words/images.. synonyms basically)

  • This just proof once more: as a rock star you don't have any real friends.

  • the white-haired guy playing dominoes is annoying.

  • 4:04 to 4:18 damn blew my mind very very cool

  • 02:55 Why has he painted a girl with a penis?

    Yuck

  • @bobdy9988 Look at it again. It isn't a penis! It's her clit, dear.

  • Hmm strange that you guys are saying that parts 2 & 5 are blocked because I can watch them without any blocking.

If SME & EMI have blocked the videos then they didn't block them in Australia.

  • he lay in bed achieving success and adoration in his mind

  • t could me seems he was insane or so,but no,lot of people who met him said he was normal guy living normal life when he left PF,he wasnt mad, people talked with him etc

  • Nutters? ha! Is that jerry shirly at 0;46? I know pretty things but didnt he play drums with humble pie?

  • retarded comment about doing DMT in your sleep, grow up.

  • that is by far the stupidest comment ive ever read

  • Big thankyou to EMI for blocking part 5/5. Cheers then

  • deseasedoranges to recommend acid to people is very selfish maybe yur mind can take it others have not bin so lucky

  • am i the only one who is really upset that not all 5 parts can be veiwed?

  • @wrkrockable no!

  • @wrkrockable no, i would have very much enjoyed watching all 5 also. it would have been nice.

  • @wrkrockable no you're not mate.. torture it is.. terrific first four parts..

  • @wrkrockable Type "The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story" on google :D

  • 3:45 Very insightful , Duggie

  • Where the heck is 5/5?

  • @TPQ1980 "This video contains content from SME and EMI, one or more of whom have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds." - that's for the 5/5 part...

  • @TPQ1980 you can thank EMI for that! sex Pistols were right about those shameless bastards!

  • @TPQ1980 Annoying, I know

  • @TPQ1980 5/5 is the fifth part of a five part documentary or document.

  • don't bother with drugs

    get high off the music

  • @wolfjak or do both

  • @wolfjak

"don't bother with drugs get high off the music"

Henry Rollins... is that you lurking here? LOL

  • /watch?v=Oii3RpEPHFs <<THIS IS PART 5!! PLZ thumbs up so ppl will see it, different poster but same documentary almost exact same location 4/5 left off.

  • @philkrautter Actually its from a different documentary i think, but same topic as 4/5 left off.

  • Hey!! where´s the part 5 of this doc??

  • S hine

  • the flies on the cover of "barrett" are a clear sign to me of his state of mind --- deep drug induced depression, stress and loss of reality --- but sure this was just a phase in his lifepeople tend to think that for barrett there was no happy life without floyd, and that is profoundly wrong i guess!!!!

  • Is there no part 5 to this?

  • Who's the guy at 2:58 and what is he playing?

  • Syd Took his time soul searching who he was. but im mean took his god giving time slowly finding who he was and didnt give a shit, and did what he felt like when ever where ever. even if it takes him his whole life to figure it out. and it did propbably.

today we all feel alittle like him, just lost. it normal. 311 band of the 90s expiriance that with producer Eddy Offord.

  • well, from their words, it seems Sid only acted like that when he was performing or was about to perform. hm, maybe they're right. I guess the pressure or whatever was bothering him really got to him. guess that it took a toll on his everyday life and he just broke down slowly. poor Syd :'(

  • Where's part 5?

  • @cecibear143

Sony won't let us watch 5/5 because they're total pants.

  • @MoveOverCasanova - the songs grow on you? No, I don't think so. They're either good songs or they're not. Syd's songs are not, in general, good songs. Anyone who argues otherwise is caught up in the myth, rather than the reality, of the man and his songs.

  • Great documentary Thanx BTW LOVE that curl lol

  • What happened to the 5th part? Dammit YouTube

  • Comment removed

  • though he was gone, i find his songs quite appealing, all good stuff!!!

  • @bbperv Whatever. Syd's songs are largely crap. Mindless, tuneless drivel. Just listen to that awful song that Robyn Hitchcock plays. Syd has been deified because of his suffering, because of his early role in what was later a great band, and because some people think drugs are cool.

  • @mannewskie did you listen to this songs thoroughly? they grow on you the more often you hear them -- listen to "terrapin", if this is mindless and tuneless i´d like to know what a great tune is?? -- and what whacky robin hitchcock plays is only a mockery of "dominoes" --

  • @MoveOverCasanova What is a great tune? It is subjective,of course, but I would answer that pretty much everything Pink Floyd created after losing that liability (Syd).

  • I see many parallels between Syd and Kurt Cobain

  • @brianz1214 i don't...Cobain wasn't a genius

  • @bbperv he wasn´t as brillant as barrett, but cobain was a great tune inventer!

  • @MoveOverCasanova i do like Nirvana...but i've noticed that a lot of their songs do sound the same

  • dunno who the bassist is there but he's a pretentious twat!! if he was in my band i'd have him black and blue :P

  • they should have edited out that prick at 7.00

  • @krackfoxtube why he was just telling the truth and it was kinda funny

  • @krackfoxtube its all part of the story. how is he a prick you dumb fuck!

  • He really does!! I remember when I saw this documentary for the first time thinking what an astute observation that was, just about Syd, I think alot of people fall prisoner to the trap of the unlimited future.

  • @Eddiclight indeed

  • gerbils!

  • Syd flipped out. Alot of people had reactions to LSD or hallucinogens during the late sixties. Everyone from that era knows people like Syd who "lost it." I only did acid 40 or 50 times {I knew people who did it 4 or 5 times a week.......every week.} I think this discussion of Syd is much ado about nothing. It happens. The fact is the Floyd were massively successful after Syd and did some phenomenal stuff 1,000 times better than anything he ever did. Fact. Yes, he started the process. So what?

  • @kentucy9999 Pink Floyd post Barrett were much more successful on the radio perhaps. But they don't even come close creatively, innovatively, or complex wise to the Barrett era. The only album that I'd say is very good after Barrett is Dark Side and they just happened to completely rip off his style on that album. Their other works were sad excuse pop songs that were written to get air time.

  • @gcdc14 lol na they werent "sad excuse pop songs written to get air time"

is atom heart mother pop? how about the 23 minute experimental track called echoes?? or animals, one of the best floyd albums... floyd with syd was great but no need to bash the time after syd left

  • Brian Wilson was very off at times alsoto say the least. The Beach Boys never completely abandoned him like whatever this band is.

  • ...i have watched this again. Am i the only person who wants to punch Robyn Hitchcock. He should be called Rubin Hitchycock, because that is what he is doing, what a wanker!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @fletcherman1 no I think he's pretty cool, he understands as well as anyone what made Syd great. maybe playin the song was a bit inappropriate

  • @fletcherman1 totally agree, this is about SYD YOU ASS not YOU HITCHCOCK!

  • Robyn Hitchcock is a right dick...sorry but thats just the way it is........

  • @fletcherman1 i agree

  • Syd sounds like me, only I swear off drinks. I'd lie in bed as well, just because, it's nice! haha

  • love the song terrapin! genius!

  • wow suprised i got so many thumbs up when so many ppl are talking shit that they have no clue what theyre talking about. so if your going to comment on what i have stated please have(or have had) a physcadelic experience b4 you try 2 talk bad about something that you really have business commenting on. LSD addictive what a fucking idiot. KNOW WTF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT B4 YOU WRITE SOME DUMB SHIT!!!!!!!!!

  • @INSFAN86 You NEVER need drugs to enjoy this music deeply. I have since the late 1970s in fact, a guy born in 66, I think my mental state suffers from the time I was born, and my birth parents

  • @MetallicBill:Of course, nobody needs drugs just to do anything, especially in the spotlight.

  • @INSFAN86 actually although lsd might not be physically addictive, like drugs such as heroin or nicotine, where your body actually craves it and you need it to get rid of the pain, but it is mentally addictive. if you do it as much as syd barrett or many people i know have, you start living in a different world when your tripping, and a lot of people cant escape it for a long time, and it can break them. it is a very strong mental addiction.

  • pink floyd is a great(more than great)band, but, gilmore is a hypocrit, because when they ditch sid,the rock of the band, vocals, lirycs, production, instrumental, etc, they should ve changed the name of the band, but they didnt had the guts to do it,pink floyd is all about sid ideas and art,but a litle washed up soo the mainstream would and buy it,all great men in this industry that have a litle talent its sucked till he doesnt have anything else in is soul that rents a penny so bye bye, long live sid

  • @n1n2n3n4100 It's ROGER "SYD" he changed the name from SID which is a nickname based on someone he knew, but Syd changed the spelling himself, it was basically a tip of the hat to a local friend. Pink Floyd is honoring the name Syd picked for them, imagine had they stayed with "Tea Set"?!?

  • this documentary makes me yearn for london

  • Everyone. And I say everyone should do mushrooms, LSD, and DMT at least once in their life. And if your against phsycedlic drugs stop being a fucking hypocrite because guess what, You do DMT in your sleep. Everytime you sleep. Sorry for breaking the bad news. We ALL do drugs. have a nice dream.

  • @DeseasedOranges The difference is that one comes as a natural part of your biological system and the others are induced by human interference. Usually nature knows best. We tend to fuck things up more often.

  • @DeseasedOranges DMT is a naturally occurring chemical your not actually taking the drug but the experiences you have while your dreaming come into vivid and realistic patterns while you are actually conscious

  • @DeseasedOranges douche, LSD fucks your mind up forever, if you take it one day different side effects could happen later

  • @jetfalconer25

Don't talk nonsense. I don't take it any more, I'm 40 this year, but I took VAST, Syd Barrett level quantities of LSD and psiylocybin ('Magic Mushrooms') many many times in my younger days and I'm fine. Unless one has a predisposition to psychological illnesses, you will NOT have any side effects later in life other than a greater understanding of the world around you, if you want to call that a side effect. The 'flashback' is a common myth brought about those who never took it.

  • @DeseasedOranges yeah sure.

  • @DeseasedOranges Mr. Professor did you learn that from internet videos aha. booooring

  • @DeseasedOranges sleeping doesn't make us over dose..doesn't fry our brains. stupid analogy...of course it would make sense after a few mushies...so yeahhhh mannnn..you are soooo right... NOT.. why on earth is this comment so popular?

  • @AbagOfonions You can't overdose on DMT, and it doesn't fry your brain. In fact it's produced naturally in your brain, or so the theory is.

  • @DeseasedOranges U cant life in a dream

  • @DeseasedOranges i've always had the weirdest dreams while playing floyd in my sleep.

  • No disrespect to Syd but what could he possibly add to perfection? Which is what Floyd transformed into. It's very possible Floyd might have taken a different direction and not achieved the amount of rich material had Syd stayed in the group. I don't wish this type of drug induced sickness on anyone, but I believe Floyd became better than Syd's vision of what the band would be.

  • @ProudFreeAmerican exactly... and i agree, i dont wish that shiz on anyone...

  • @ProudFreeAmerican i completely agree. i LOVE piper, but overall the stuff after that is masterful.

  • I could watch part 1-4, but part 5 was blocked by Sony music. Fuck Sony music!

  • for some reason, i'm addicted to watching stuff about syd. it's nice but there's no end because they never got to his death nor have him for interview. it's all third person (talking about syd). his own words are negated.

  • 4:57 - 5:00 does it sound familiar?:)

  • GREAT insights by Duggie Fields. GREAT Robyn Hitchcock commentary and version of "Dominoes." Wonderful documentary. I got into Syd in high school (ca. 1986) through a girlfriend. Then Opel came out. LSD hovered nearby (or made me hover!). GREAT times.

  • Syd Barrett was a musical genius.

  • i like Syds Madcap Laughs album! its like hes just jammin in the room with you! its cozy!

  • It's good to see the portions that were totally taken off the VH1 truncated version. I had no idea they butchered all these very important videos and insights how Syd was before he left music altogether.

  • @sk9utube this was the original documentary. The VH1 version took clips from this story.

  • @wolves750 the VH1 documentary was so lousy and incomplete it boggles the mind why they had their way with the oriignal.

  • you twisty twats... this is gorgeous!

  • 9:28 TERRAPIN great fucking song

  • @TAXavier we dont even know if he had schizophrenia, when you do THAT much acid, the chemical backlash is just immense, schizophrenic or not, that much will creep up on you and turn your brain to mush...

  • dominoes i belive

  • kids, dont do drugs.

  • More like, "kids, don't be born with latent schizophrenia that unlocks faster because of drugs".

  • @TAXavier Exactltly!! I can't stand when people feed into that mythology. Syd took no more or less drugs than many of his peers and yet the majority of them went on to live mentally stable lives (Keith Richards being a shining example). Almost every description of Syd during those yrs screams schizophrenia. He's straight out of a textbook. The apathy, word finding difficulties, retreat from social life, confusion, etc are all symptoms of schizophrenia which tends to manifest between ages 18-24

  • @TAXavier if you're predisposed, schizophrenia will get you.....at some point. regardless of what you do.

  • @TAXavier More like, kids don't bother taking the risk incase you have underlying mental conditions.

  • Comment removed

  • @barneycoles He was clearly schizophrenic. Drugs had nothing to do with it. In fact, there has never been a single recorded case of anyone going permanently "insane" from taking drugs--unless they had a severe underlying mental illness. Syd would have developed schizophrenia independent of his drug intake b/c it's a genetic disease that manifest at predictable ages (18-24) sometimes later but rarely after 30. Sufferers are often highly intelligent and creative prior to their first breakdown.

  • @ritter89

Might very well be the case.

  • what the song being sung at 4:40

  • at3:30 it looks like an older anton newcombe

  • must have been funny nutty syd barrett bumping into lennon or other beatles at abbey road.

surely must have happened, this was beatles abbey road phase

  • He touched so many lives throughout his remarkable music, mine too.

Syd inspired musicians around the world, especially Pink Floyd. He was a musical innovator, and genius. Thank you, Syd!

  • well said 4:10 - 4:15

  • "you can't beat that as a song" uhhh there are much better songs than Dominoes on that same album, what are ya talkin about?

  • It's definitly motivating but im living proof that it's not good after awhile

  • That Robyn Hitchcock seems like a fucking twat! When he starts playing he seems to be trying too hard to look cool and his singing is pretty bad.

  • Yeah right on DrTorture28 that's exactly what I thought when I seen this, he's probably like thinking to himself ahh I'm so hot lol.

  • @DrTorture28 - he is Alfred's son. I'm serious!

  • 405 thru 417 .. my world

  • Jerry Shirley is hilarious.

  • alot of people don't like robyn hitchcock because in this full interview which is on the DVD he comes across as a bit of a wanker, which he does a bit, but i think he really does Dominoes justice.

  • Yeah, he does seem like a real twat.

  • @Slapbass13 ...I think he comes across ok.

  • @TheNEWBobDylan have you seen the full dvd?

  • @Slapbass13 ...no, LOL is he really THAT bad?

  • @INSFAN86 so true but sometimes I wish I never did it just because some things are never the same you lose that innocense...though I still jump on every oppourtunity to do it

  • @INSFAN86 Its true, but not for everyone.

  • @INSFAN86 - Yeah and apparently fries your brain in the process.

  • @bigfoot30045 - yeah if you abuse it. i know pleanty of people that have tripped once or twice and there is nothing wrong with them. its not a drug you want to do day in and day out. Syd's use was just straight overkill. that shits nuts

  • @INSFAN86 Anyone who needs LSD to open up their minds and gain inspiration seriously lacks creativity and imagination. Frank Zappa was as clean as a whistle and stranger and more creative than almost any artist in modern history. LSD is an easy way to finding new ways to look at things, and at the same time, a dangerous way.

  • @felizginato12 he was creative before the LSD

  • @brianz1214 Exactly, as I was saying, you don't need it.

  • @INSFAN86

go to the grave without an psycedelic expirience is like never having sex. from terenc mckenna. you never figure out what it is all about.

  • @INSFAN86 Hippy talk

  • @INSFAN86 - Yeah it did great things for Syds life alright. It fried his brain obviously.

  • @INSFAN86 ooh yes and what if you get addicted to LSD and you finish with schizophrenia, it would be very nice

  • @zzzzzzooioriotrt lsd is non-addictive, maybe a psychological addiction, you've have obviously never taken lsd it's for certain people, it's can help you, or destroy you

  • @bmattson08 Constant diet of chemicals is NOT good, Even if you are talking normal ingestion, moderation is the key. I think it was highly in the scene before laws were cracking down on drugs of all known dangerous types. "weed" is probably less a real concern then the others, considering draconian laws on that.

  • @MetallicBill:You get only one option. Fight off the addiction before it kills you.

  • Comment removed

  • @INSFAN86 agree a lot

  • @INSFAN86 Apparently, it also has wondrous effects on one's spelling skills.

  • @INSFAN86 i have had quite an experience with LSD, although im done with drugs but that one time changed my life...

  • whats that song hes playing at 3:07????

  • oh nevermind

    :)

  • Dominos. a really good song

  • It's his song called Dominoes off of Barrett

  • Dominoes.

  • I have a bit of trouble grasping this. How bad was syd hurt? Did he ever show any sign of recovery? Did he ever take therapy? I know they mention that they tried to get him into therapy and it wouldn't work but surely some must have had some kind of influence on him? Or the ability to force him for his own good?

  • If you've ever taken hallucinogens, particularly acid, you'd know that he'd discovered something about himself that made him realize something he didn't like

It's deeply personal and representative of the times

  • Yeah? That doesn't really answer my question. This seems more like he burnt out into psychosis which is treatable. I have taken both acid and peyote. And indeed you discover many things about yourself and the world that you may not particularly like. But.. I guess so ahs the rest of pink floyd and none of the others nor me have psychotic behavior.

Your answer doesn't seem to tackle my question. Thanks anyway

  • with respect to Jack Monck's comments about "the wheels comingin off" it was a little more complicated.. from one that was at the Stars gig .."there were several things going on .. audience expectation and the dysfunctional PA. To this point Syd had fun playing around Cambridge without being recognised. He semed to be having a Deja Vu moment at this gig A throwback and he wasn't enjoying being on stage". Syd was a brilliant gifted man whose musical legacy will truly "shine on"

  • i love jerry shirley "Nutters have moments of clarity all the time"

i love that typical British almost London cabbie way of saying it lol

  • nice spit curl, Duggie. ha
