OH YES! I found an Auranthetic in a disused barn ,had it 5 years now ,but only just got around to finishing it off so it runs perfect.Very impressed and the best fun i have ever had on the road.I would never consider selling man!
The gas tank is mostly empty except for some wires. Top speed is about 30mph and it can travel at that speed for about 1 hour. I have a slideshow video as well for a closer look.
Have you ever thought about some kind of upgrade? Like gel cells or spiral wound absorbant glass mat batteries? I bet you could find some high pressure low resistance tires for it too.
I've had this bike for a long time and can't imagine ever parting with it. They can sometimes be found on ebay, Craigslist, Recycler, and Cycle Trader. When someone is trying to sell theirs, they usually go cheap. I'll let you know if I come across one for sale.
746 watts=1hp and these are at least 1hp. I know that those sidewalk-scooters list the watts but they are toys by comparison. I really hope you find one of these. They are rare but not impossible to find. Go to Flickr(dot com) to see my 3-wheeler and a modified Auranthetic with a 2,800 watt motor that was way too fast. I took it apart because it was unsafe.
the best sidewalk scooters today are 1000 watts. They do about 25mph.lots of electronics for control. I like the simple design from the 70's with a couple of relays and the fact that it is classic and so very rare. Its probably over 1000 watts.
Expect an Auranthetic to cruise about 28mph. They are a very simple design indeed. I'm surprised the modern scooters have such powerful motors as the batteries seem so small. Auranthetics attract a lot of public attention because they are a classic. Again, I hope you find one.
This vehicle had a very simple speed control. The throttle cable was attached to a toggle switch which operated two relays. The first relay provided 12 volts from just one battery for initial take-off. Further twisting of the throttle turned off the first relay and activated the second which provided the full 24 volts from both batteries to the motor. The batteries are wired in series.
Thats fantastic you got one for free. There is really not much to go wrong on these units. Check the brushes and maybe a shot of WD-40 in the front bearing from the outside. Keep the wheel spokes tight(very important). What kills these motors is low voltage overheat. Avoid that & you will have it a long time. Enjoy your Auranthetic!
i just got one complete and saved it from a dumpster, about to start a restoration. the only modification will be a dc motor control for better speed control, and better use of the batteries, and a couple of the small luggage racks from a 70's era sears 700 moped.
Here's a bit more info in this bike. I bought it used a long time ago when they were more common. I rewired everything & serviced the flat-commutator permanent-magnet American Bosch motor. The throttle has 2 speeds. The acceleration is quite brisk & there's lots of torque. Also, if you stop the clip at 52 seconds, you might be able to barely make out that I am wearing a Kimba-Lion shirt.
I just got one of these! Its just a rolling chassis though no motor or anything.

Fantastic, why has it taken so long for the motorcycle industry to come up with anything as good?

Next time I buy batteries, I will consider AGMs.

Would you consider selling it? I would love to have that.

Thanks that would be great. I am going to start looking for one. Do you know how many watts they are?

Kinda cool actually. I had no idea they were building such things so long ago. What's the top speed and range on that little sucker?
LoomisLoftis 3 years ago
Nice finally a 2speed.
Normally they are all 1 speed.
Now you can drive away fast and have a high top speed to.

Very cool!
I had one back in the late '70's.
Trying to find out what happened to it. Someone in the family got it, now we can seem to find out where it went!
