  • @luimarco Big fat belly. I do have good muscles as i have been an athlete all my life. Got a serious shoulder injury. Now it is fine. I have started to eat right and started gym. Please give me some good points how to loose this fucking belly fat i hate this shit.

  • i just hate flies ! i feel them only in my biceps and chest none. i think thats why you have a big biceps and a smaller triceps.

  • A couple of weeks before watching this video, I started doing flies with every chest workout. Even though it didn't feel like it gave me any pumps (felt more like stretching, as you said), after less than a month I see a huge difference in how wide my chest is. Awesome exercise.

  • I dont see any use of flies.As he said they are definitely not mass builders which I agree,but there is not such thing as "shaping" or "toning" exercices because you cant change the shape of your muscles.

  • be careful with flies they are a great exercise but can hurt ur shoulders pretty bad, dont go down too far, thi fucks up your shoulders. flies are my fave chest exercise.

  • When i began training i only did pressing movements. My chest only really got big once i started doing flys and i did high reps (3 sets of 16). One of my friends has a elbow issue which makes pressing movements painful so he only does flys for the chest and his chest is decent (yes his triceps are small). Ppl need to realise their are many different ways to get to the top of the mountain. I have another friend (from my MMA gym) who never uses "weights" and he is big, strong and shredded.

  • ok lui, so i was thinking about this video for a while now and i was thinking maybe you filled out more when you stoped the flys because your body got used to the flys and when you introduced something diff which your body was not used to it so it increased size its not that the flys dont work its just ya know your self you have to change your routine to keep getting bigger fool them muscels. you owne them they dont owne you (irish fan)

  • You look much younger and better all around looking in your videos now that in the left picture. Not a fan of it at all and it might be your no tan, no facial hair but even your nose looks bigger on that left picture.

  • I've got a question for Lui, or someone else if they have the answer. I've been going to the gym for about 3 months now and I'm a big guy, about 6 foot 6 inches tall and around 225 lbs. Does have longer limbs, such as arms, effect how much you can lift to some extent? I've got friends who are smaller lifting right up there with me and I had a strength and conditioning teacher tell me that those who are taller with longer limbs should be lifting less.

  • @SmartAus I'd say you should just lift what you can manage and not limit yourself due to your size; but I guess some exercises can be more difficult for people with long limbs as there's a greater range of motion.

  • @SmartAus I'm the same height as you. The weight I lift compared to others doesn't even enter my mind. As long as I'm lifting as much as I personally can, I don't care. Having said that now that I think about it, it seems i can do a bit lighter on 'pushing' exercises whilst my 'pulling' exercises tend to be a bit heavier.

  • If you check out the guy that does videos for AthleanX.com, he is an athletic trainer and quite well built himself. A while back he did a video explaining how flies mechanically work the muscle that connects shoulder-to-bicep and not the chest as much as presses. He said they are unnecessary and could lead to injury with heavy weights, since then I have stopped all flies and my chest is getting better

  • every exercise is as its maximum intensity in one of three positions, the stretch, the mid-range, or the contracted position......

    stretching muscle fascia is an important element of muscle growth;

    flys - stretch position

    bench - mid-range position

    cable crossovers - contracted position (is the toughest)

    but, you dont need 20 sets of each, 1-2 sets of each is fine

  • @steven288 - .... biceps - incline dumbbell (stretch position is maximum), standing barbell (mid-range), concentration curls (contracted position),

    triceps (dumbbell behind the head - stretch position), dips (midrange), press downs (contracted position)

    i.e. in one of those three positions, the movement is its toughest

    I highly doubt omitting such an exercise like DB flies will deconstruct your chest....

  • @gabrielvidalgomez A lot of people have developed great physiques by just doing pushups and pull ups and dips, a lot of people dont think you can build muscle solely by doing pushups, but I beg to differ. As long as you constantly challenge your self you muscle will grow, if possible, try and throw a backpack on with a bag of sand in it to add some resistance.

  • Lui, when you do flies with dumbells there is not much contraction at the top of the movement in the chest, but if you do them with cables there is a massive contraction at the top of the movement. So my question is this; Are flies not considered a mass building exercise because you dont get the contraction in the chest, at the top of the movement like you do with pressing movements? And so if you do them with cables you are likley to build mass ?

  • @kombatcookie actually i don't like that squeeze at the top. am looking for the max tension when the muscle is fully stretched . i hardly ever do continuous tension exercises. i find them not beneficial.

  • I dont know man but i still think the best exersice for chest is all different forms of pushups. I increase the intensity by addindg aleast 40lbs to a book bag or more reps. The exersices mentioned here are nothing but sholder snapers to me. Just my opinion

    both my biceps are much bigger now than before but the left bicep is still bigger than the right.

    should i train my right bicep more than the left?

  • @CIarKent Depends on what size you have now, are you real big already? Than you should train as you do usually, but leave out the last few exercises for your left biceps. Are you not that big yet, keep on training both arms on the same intensity and the difference will eventually minimize. My left tricep was bigger as my right, just trained both arms because i wasn't big and the difference is barely noticable anymore ;)

  • lui, what do u think about the pec dec machine , because i cant really feel my chest working doing normal chest flies. However, after doing pec deck flies , my chest definitely burns.

  • Interesting, Steve Holman and Jonathan Lawson from X-reps speak about the three ranges of motion principle (contracted- concentration curl, tricep pressdowns etc, stretch- incline dumbbell curls, overhead tricep "french" press, midrange- barbell curl, skullcrusher) would you agree with this concept then? do you incorporate crossovers for training the chest in the contracted position?

  • Hey Lui. I hate machines. So I wanted to know if just by doing the bench presses and flys is it possible to get that line in the middle of the chest or is the cable crossover the only way to get that line?

  • @NotoriousRID94 Try doing this: put the movable flat bench in the middle of your cable system machine, put the hand grabs on the bottom and lift the same way. Try doing that, it's different but the same :D

    But do it after your rest and heal as Lui said :)

  • @NotoriousRID94 a similar chest workout to the dumbbell flyes is the butterfly deck.It can strech the chest the same way as the dumbbell flyes workout.And if  you shoulder is snapping it is probably because you don't warm up correctly(if you warm up at all).

  • @NotoriousRID94 People claim that flyes widen your chest because of the stretch them put on the Pecs. So does Pullovers. Both of which are risky exercises that I hate to do because they hurt my rotator couff. Yeah Yeah, I know, pro bodybuilders do them, BUT we dont take all the supplements they take to support these exercises. I found that at the end of my chest workouts, a stationary stretch of the chest gives me a better stretch, with fewer risks, + bonus for better recovering!

  • @NotoriousRID94 make sure your hands never go below your chest. Have a slight bend in the elbows to make sure they drop below and not your hands. Also cables are great as it forces you to contract a lot harder and control it the whole way. Main thing is go slow and focus on deep squeeze rather than high weight

  • what i want to say is that i always thought that flys help to open up the chest and give it a better shape i even feel that it do my chest good more than even bench press. i guess i`m aswell obssessed with flys.

  • i do them on both dumbbells and machine i as well go for heavy weights but i mind the shoulders because yeah it does hurt the shoulder but i do it really slow specially when i`m open up so i can feel the maximum i can go and where i have to stop and i keep i strong grip on the dumbbells, now some days i can not keep that up it depends on how strong my body feels or not, if i felt unable to control those heavy weights i go back to lite ones like 25 or 30.

  • @luimarco you should have done the pics cold, not after your chest workout. All this proves is that you had a bigger pump with the flies. If I understand correctly, you did at least 2 sets of flies with high reps and low weight, giving you a lot more pump in the first picture.

  • dude, how can you claim that there is anything like shaping exercises? the principle is always the same : you destroy the muscle and as a reaction your body repairs your muscle fibers -> they grow.

    the shape of the muscle is a given from you birth on, otherwise every bodybuilder would be able to reach perfect symmetry.

    of course you can develop for example your upper chest more, but thats because it's a different muscle than you have in your inner chest.

    just saying, not hating.
