@hukt0nf0nikz 2 wrongs does not feed the poor. Nasa and the US military are very wasteful and quite foolish. The whole world could be fed on those mishandled, ridiculous budgets.
Yeah for Earth... The best thing about robotics is the gender, race and geographic indifference. Odd how we can create such a marvel and successfully send it millions of miles away, yet still be faced with racism, hunger and homelessness?
If its real then why do they have a "picture" from outside the pheonix after it was set up. and im not talking about the simulations. Im talking about the picture that was constantly showed behind one of the techs while he was talking about the pheonix.
...Seriously, you have the rovers up there doing what they do and yet this guy is a stationary vehicle... That seems a little lame if you ask me. What would we expect to find from the topsoil of any given area on Mars given what we know when it comes to its climate? I think a more well spent visit would have involved a mobile vehicle or better yet, a manned mission. This does not seem as inovative and useful as the rovers (excluding landing process).
Thanks for your response, James. It came on the eve of the Phoenix scheduled landing on Mars. Personally, I don't think Phoenix will land and return data. Too much has to happen during entry, descent and landing for the spacecraft to land safely. I apologize for sounding negative. We'll see what happens.
Yeah, I was a little skeptical too, considering the previous landing failures and the fact that control from Earth is not possible because of the time delay. Apparantly, the prior costly mistakes have turned into valuable lessons!
I remember the previous polar mission failed because they tried to do it inexpensively, for approximately $1 million U.S. dollars. I offer my sincere congratulations to everyone connected with this project.
This one was originally the backup of the one that failed, which crash was due to a metric/english measurement mixup. This mission was resurrected on NASAs' "faster, cheaper, smarter" philosophy; so it looks like the guys at JPL got their ducks in a row this time. A great Memorial Day for the USA!
apart from the audio sync being out and that the rocket launch is far too unrealistic (where's the gradual increase in velocity you see on all real rockets)), the video is quite cool.
It is the LIS Jupiter 2 sound effect!!!!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
All the money spent on these missions can be used to feed and care for the poor. What a waste! Such fools!

What percentage of the federal budget do you believe is spent on exploration?

Waste? Fools?
The only fools are those who don't understand the importance of exploration.

Congratulations to NASA on the successful landing. I hope Phoenix will continue to function well.

FAKE!!! they have a picture of the pheonix landing on Mars from OUTSIDE the pheonix.
birdy2011 3 years ago
Of course this is fake. This is a preview of the mission. Geez.

im talking about the one on TV. It just "landed" a few minutes ago.

Phoenix is too complicated and delicate to survive the hostile environment on Mars for very long.
wallasky 4 years ago
It's not supposed to. NASA says 90 days, tops.

Sorry, I was wrong. Truly amazing. I didn't think it would land. Good job by the guys at JPL and the University of Arizona.
