@jhay95 Nice. I'm also sixteen, but I'm from Ohio. I'm trying to find somewhere to move to when I reach 18 since our country just got raped by our gov't and NWO thugs. I was thinking Scandinavia countries or the British Isles appealed the most, but this looks really nice.
Are you guys part of the EU? What's the standard of living like? Economy and welfare? Etc...
@rhinnawi95 Switzeerland is not part of the EU, the crime rate in switzerland is very low and Geneva is a very, very quiet and healthy city. The unemployment is very low but living in Geneva could be a bit pricy but you should find out by yourself because I haven´t gone there for some time.... I hope that helps
@sara874 That sounds almost too perfect. And then again, if I get a good job, I'd probably make enough money to have a decent living there, wouldn't I? If I make $50,000 a year in the states and spend $200 on a decent phone, for example, and the phone is the equivalent of $400 in Switzerland, would I be making the equivalent of $100,000 there? I'm talking ratio of earnings to prices. I think that's how it is in Denmark and some other pricey countries.
@rhinnawi95 I think it mostly depends on how many years you spend working for a company or for the state. but life can be pricey because by law you must pay your own heath care insurance so if you go to a doctor I think the insurance will pay half of the bill but it won´t pay your medication...(you should find out by yourself)
If something costs $400 it does not necesseraly mean your salary will be $100 000 a year it depends on what kind of job you´re working at.:-)
@sara874 Well, by $100,000, I meant the equivalent of that for the same job there (ratios).
What kind of market and welfare system does it have? Does it have western european-style socialism (like what Germany would have) or is its system unique? I'm just really curious, because it's become on of my top options.
I've been three times for work. Nice city. Climate is great and much to see in a town of its size (UN buildings, ancient Roman etc. history, food is great...). It's not cheap though and it does close up early (again, it's not a big city). Very central and easy to visit neighbouring France/ Italy/ etc.
@Pointerrify Comparable to the rest of northern Europe. If you are familiar with a MidAtlantic climate in the United States (Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania) you'll be comfortable with the Geneve climate.

@jhay95 Your English seems just fine. I learned French in school, by the way. I'm... I could get better, but I get some of it. I prefer German.
If higher wages compensate, then it's fine by me, especially since it's not part of the EU. It's still got some sovereignty.
Thanks for all the information!
