I don't know the other nominees but sometimes you should just hand out the Oscar for a performance like this. Michael Lerner didn't get much screen time or other attention outside the Oscars. But this performance was absolutely flawless. Stereotypical boss, a quick speaker, foul and direct. Says whatever he wants. Has everyone under his thumb. No Oscar.
He was great in Clockers - he and "Christopher" from Sopranos were perfect and way to under-used. And who can forget Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty has to be his best movie ever)

The scene where Lipnick commands Lou to kiss Barton's feet or he's fired, then fires Lou and kisses Barton's feet himself is VERY creepy.
