I really liked Homecoming. I thought that as far as trying to capture some kind of mythos it was the best. The character never felt forced into the role, but his own dark past was constantly haunting him. The only real problem that that game had was the combat system. They tried to include counter attacks and maneuvers that most SH players just don't care about. Then we got Shattered Memories which wasn't a bad game, but was 180 degrees from anything a SH fan would have wanted.
I believe what gave silent hill that certain feel in the past was the little bit of graininess, the fog, the ashes, blood, and the torment seen in every beast and how all of it related to the the main character. Bring back the filters and ominous siren as the world transitions. I didn't hear the siren in this trailer. I really do hope for the best in this one. I grinned when I saw that this was a prisoner. I can only imagine why Silent Hill would call this man and what it plans to do to him.
how about instead of making better graphics "silent hill" games, you remake- REMAKE the original 3, by which i mean, enhanced graphics and 'fixed' controls, no bull, just fixing them up a bit. The fans would rejoice that you aren't messing up the series further

@HellFrozenSoul It's small minded opinions like this that confirm that Silent Hill doesn't have a true fanbase anymore. Yet people still torture themselves by watching the videos and then making patronizing commentary complaining about games they haven't even played yet.
@Severeth I holding out on real opinion until I actually see the game. I do hope for the best. Maybe this game will be a surprise. I agree that we shouldn't say too much about the game until it's tried or at least there's a good, firm review about it from people who have played it. I didn't look it up for this game but I believe the Japanese should be the ones to develop Silent Hill games. I don't know why but they seem to have a better sense of pain and anguish.

All i can do is hope that this game can be good as Silent hill 1,2,3 and even the room. As the Room was so much better then Shattered Memories,Origins and Homecoming. The room had it's style changed but the story was good and you still felt that you're playing silent hill. How can you feel you are playing Silent hill in Shattered Memories?

@quintanillafan I think you can try out Silent hill Origins and Silent hill Homecoming since they have Silent hill elements. But don't be fooled by some guys saying to try shattered memories (these are americans who were afraid to try the other silent hill games). It simply doesn't have any silent hill element. It's fun to play it but the worst as a "silent hill" game. I played it and almost ended up crying, because i felt sad to see the best Series fall like this.
So I admit that there might have been some point after Homecoming where I thought the game designers would take requests from the fan masses and take more influence from the first three gem of games, then I saw this, with its loud clanking sounds and the grizzly face of a two dimensional character/ body builder. Shame. It was a good dream that this series could return to it's former glory. But well...nah you get it.
A scary game does not induce fear by gory or bloody images, or images that are disturbing. It is created by your psyche, not the game. The feeling of whats on the other side, being alone, not knowing what could happen. Fear could be induced by a simple child pedaling on a tricycle. Its the presentation that gets you, not what you see.

@ReactTeamSession Think about the horror compared to the original works of team silent. 1 through 4 was amazing. Definite arguments for video games being works of art. After they disbanded, the horror of not knowing what was doing all these horrid things in Silent Hill kept the series fresh to me. After other companies came, i became saddened to see what was once such a unique series fall through the floor. If this new one gives me the same thrills i'll take it back, but if not, SH is dead to me
I'm missing the morbid atmosphere of the originals, but still the last games have been fun to play (what could be the main problem... The first 3 games were no fun at all, they just scared the shit out of me). Moreover the storylines nowadays are too straight and average for me. They should watch more David Lynch.
The graphics look good, but...it just doesn't look like Silent Hill anymore :( I mean, the storyline (From what we've seen so far) seems highly uninspiring for the game; an escaped convict who must pay for his sins and face his demons...either that or SH is pulling an RE and he's REALLY just an innocent bystander who got convicted of some awful crime. Either way, it's already been thought up. Let's wait for more trailers to come out, shall we?

This one is probably going to suck like The Room ,Homecoming, Origins, and Shattered Memories did. Who ever thinks those games can come close to even comparing to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Silent Hill games, you're just flaunting your ignorance. The first 3 games are just on a completely different level than the rest. Every aspect of the first 3 were just so well thought out, it's going to be very difficult to recreate the atmosphere they did...... let alone surpass it.

The safehouse reminded me of SH2, but then those hauntings and that dimension shift reminded me of HC and it didn`t look scary at all :S, i just wish they make the other world more like SH3, and well, at least now the main character knows he`s guilty of a crime LOL

eeeh did you ever finish the game? you can merge the plot of SH1 and SH3 to a continious story, and shattered memories could be sequel to SH3 (after the whole shit she experienced in this game). now shes in psychiartric care. (because of her father,she found him dead in her house in SH3). in my opinion shattered memories is more than JUST A REIMAGINING. its an entire new story and a part of the series!

@32NIKO Yeah, it sucks that Yamaoka (I mean, Silent Hill owes like half of his identity to this guy) is not involved, at least at the music department, in the game. The name is provisional, it will probably change. And the developer is The collective, they especialize in movie-based videogame like Men in black and Star wars. They actually started to create Silent Hill: Homecoming before the game was transfered to Double Helix. To be honest, the studio sucks a little bit :P

As much as I love Akira Yamaoka, I'd love it even more if he'd retire already instead of being shoehorned in with half-assed songs like in Homecoming. I want a REAL Silent Hill game, not some fanfic garbage again. Besides, as anyone who's listened to the soundtrack for Quiet Falls or that fanmade album can tell you, he can be replaced.
By the way, who wants to bet Pyramid Head is going to make a completely abitrary cameo again?
I was expecting there to be another female protagonist, the protagonist's gender is the only thing that disappoints me right now. The music of this trailer is nice, sure, it isn't Akira's, but that dosen't mean it can't be accepted.
I did learn that Yamoaka isn't doing the music for this one. I agree that it will not have the same flavor as the others, but the difference might make up for it. Not knowing it was a Silent Hill game trailer was probably the intent. If you were playing the game, no title screen, no info that it was a continuation game, how would you react if while playing there were hints that it might be.

@ReactTeamSession Think about the horror compared to the original works of team silent. 1 through 4 was amazing. Definite arguments for video games being works of art. After they disbanded, the horror of not knowing what was doing all these horrid things in Silent Hill kept the series fresh to me. After other companies came, i became saddened to see what was once such a unique series fall through the floor. If this new one gives me the same thrills i'll take it back, but if not, SH is dead to me

I'm missing the morbid atmosphere of the originals, but still the last games have been fun to play (what could be the main problem... The first 3 games were no fun at all, they just scared the shit out of me). Moreover the storylines nowadays are too straight and average for me. They should watch more David Lynch.

The graphics look good, but...it just doesn't look like Silent Hill anymore :( I mean, the storyline (From what we've seen so far) seems highly uninspiring for the game; an escaped convict who must pay for his sins and face his demons...either that or SH is pulling an RE and he's REALLY just an innocent bystander who got convicted of some awful crime. Either way, it's already been thought up. Let's wait for more trailers to come out, shall we?

Stop shaming the Silent Hill franchise with these pussy-ass installments. Go back to the original 3 games and take notes on what they did right! Having better graphics doesn't mean shit if you fail to elicit terror and dread from players. We want more horror, more disturbing images, more ghastly creatures, more dark clammy corridors, and blood-stained floors, etc etc...

This one is probably going to suck like The Room ,Homecoming, Origins, and Shattered Memories did. Who ever thinks those games can come close to even comparing to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Silent Hill games, you're just flaunting your ignorance. The first 3 games are just on a completely different level than the rest. Every aspect of the first 3 were just so well thought out, it's going to be very difficult to recreate the atmosphere they did...... let alone surpass it.

The safehouse reminded me of SH2, but then those hauntings and that dimension shift reminded me of HC and it didn`t look scary at all :S, i just wish they make the other world more like SH3, and well, at least now the main character knows he`s guilty of a crime LOL

eeeh did you ever finish the game? you can merge the plot of SH1 and SH3 to a continious story, and shattered memories could be sequel to SH3 (after the whole shit she experienced in this game). now shes in psychiartric care. (because of her father,she found him dead in her house in SH3). in my opinion shattered memories is more than JUST A REIMAGINING. its an entire new story and a part of the series!

@fatboy22222222222222 They aren't getting back together, and yes I am a huge fan of the series, but change isn't necessarily bad. The first 3 games were amazing, but I also loved Shattered Memories. The psychology aspect of it was great! Just because Homecoming was bad doesn't mean this game will follow in its footsteps.

@32NIKO Yeah, it sucks that Yamaoka (I mean, Silent Hill owes like half of his identity to this guy) is not involved, at least at the music department, in the game. The name is provisional, it will probably change. And the developer is The collective, they especialize in movie-based videogame like Men in black and Star wars. They actually started to create Silent Hill: Homecoming before the game was transfered to Double Helix. To be honest, the studio sucks a little bit :P

Really not happy to see that homecoming thing when it sends you into the silent hill scary part,or w.e its called,makes me have a bad feeling some things from homecoming may transfer to this game,and seeing how they also give you a gun that early makes me having less hope for the Silent Hill series, god I hope this isnt the final development for the game.

As much as I love Akira Yamaoka, I'd love it even more if he'd retire already instead of being shoehorned in with half-assed songs like in Homecoming. I want a REAL Silent Hill game, not some fanfic garbage again. Besides, as anyone who's listened to the soundtrack for Quiet Falls or that fanmade album can tell you, he can be replaced.
By the way, who wants to bet Pyramid Head is going to make a completely abitrary cameo again?

I was expecting there to be another female protagonist, the protagonist's gender is the only thing that disappoints me right now. The music of this trailer is nice, sure, it isn't Akira's, but that dosen't mean it can't be accepted.

I did learn that Yamoaka isn't doing the music for this one. I agree that it will not have the same flavor as the others, but the difference might make up for it. Not knowing it was a Silent Hill game trailer was probably the intent. If you were playing the game, no title screen, no info that it was a continuation game, how would you react if while playing there were hints that it might be.
