It is freezing. The reason it is so light so fog like is because it freezes instantly, creating small ice crystals instead of big snow flakes that turn to ice at a slower rate. Also hot water has more energy from being heated so that energy is then used to freeze the water faster...but I might be wrong on that one, it is just something I heard a while ago :)
like j2pohlsander: that is condesation and if there would be -30 C you wouldn't stay only with your coat on you or what it is, nothing on head and without gloves.
@j2pohlsander That's not condensation. Condensation is going from gas to liquid. The water is already liquid. That's freezing. It just looks like "fog" because the ice crystals are so small. Either way, it's definitely not evaporation either.
Evaporation is when the liquid reaches a higher temperature and turns into the gas form - in this case it isn't evaporation but a phase transition from liquid to solid, since it's so cold there. Still super COOL no matter what it's called! :)
@kovona We have roads, houses and businesses such as Wal-Mart and Tim Hortons (sure signs of civilization). Our population is approx. 20,000 people and they come to live here from all over the world.
@samantha683 i come from the tropicos, and when i went to europe my friend said to bring warm cloths cos it was summer...when i was there, their summer was more a chilling day here.thats why i wanted to know, lol.
Also I'm wondering why you like the bitter cold up there? Isn't it painful to the face? For me in NYC 10-20ºF (-12ºC to -6ºC) and 10-20 mph winds (16-32 km/h) are absolute TORTURE. This video make me appreciate summer while its here and is making me dread the eventual arrival of winter. Ew.
@Maserati7200 I like it here, it's a dry cold, work is close by (no commute) and as long as you are dressed for it you can stay out all night and watch the aurora borealis (northern lights).
@samantha683 hmm someday I'll be there to enjoy this cool weather and surely the awesome aurora borealis, I hate summer and we have >120 degrees F here for nearly 8 months of the year!! max lowest temperature goes to 40 degrees F and that's only for a week or so if we got lucky lol!
@Maserati7200 Being from the east coast(Nova Scotia) and never having seen anything colder than about -1F before I moved to North West Ontario(it gets plenty cold here too,) I can quite honestly say I'll take -40 any day of the week over damp miserable east coast winter weather.
Well, this shot is entertaining, but let us take it more seriously. Water is an effective component of alternative energy. Instead of using it to entertain ourselves, let us alternatively take another options for entertainment collectively. This way we'll enjoy, and contribute on the other hand economizing in the use of Water (Which will somehow bother us sooner of later if we keep using it overmuch). I hope this consciousness will not be individuality... I'm sure! ;)
@Prygst what time of year? We've been the hottest in Canada several times in the summer and although cold, we enjoy a dry winter with little snow and sunny clear blue skies. In the winter the Aurora shimmers on a cool dark night, it makes me happy. I love where I live. Thanks for watching!
@Prygst If you look at the average january temperatures in Canada it seems that Yellowknife is one of the absolute coldest. The daily average low temperature is -31 degrees...every day in january.
I´m from sweden and I can tell you that we havn´t got any place here that is even close to this...
What is it about Canadians and Australians that they get so well together? I've never heard arguing between the 2, (unlike Canadians and Americans which I thought were "best friends")?
They may be from the other side of the world, but they have much more in common with Canada.
Common sense and a landmass which is inhospitable for a portion of the year comes to mind....and the social issues which America is decades behind either country.....
@aaron87a Spilled water will evaporate faster than the same amount of water in a glass because the surface of water exposed to air is wider. When you throw your hot - more likely to evaporate - water in the air you give it maximum exposure to air so it evaporates pretty fast, especially in a very dry air. Now the cold makes the water vapor just formed condense in tiny droplets that freeze. So what you see here is water being liquid, gas, liquid and finally solid in about a second.
