  • All in all, the withdrawals from Paxil were 100 times worse, so you'll do fine whichever route. Don't take advice from ANY Person about you and this medication, it is a good medication, just know your body on this issue and discuss it with your primary health care clinician.

  • Look I'll be realistic with everyone, if you truly feel that you need this medication then by all means take it as prescribed. However if you no longer want to take it then discontinue. Somebody told me that I shouldn't have stopped cold turkey, well I did, and I'm fine , you're still on it. Also I'm a nurse so I know better than most about this medication, as far as I'm concerned nobody (not even a physician) can give medical advice on this subject over a video comment. I was taking 40mg daily

  • I was on 10mg of citalopram because of anxiety/tension headaches for about 6 months when my doctor suggested coming off because I had greatly improved. She said to cut the dose in half for 2 weeks (5mg) and then I can come off completely. I'm about 8 or 9 days in and I kind of feel crappy, but it's not terrible. For the past week I've been fatigued with a headache and some aches and chills. It just feels like I have a cold...which very well could be the case. The worst part for me thus far is

  • I feel very lucky then .. the only side effect I ever had with Citalopram was having those extremely vivid nightmare .. nothing else. I had them for the first week when I started taking it, and a week after I stopped taking it. It was a bit annoying, but nothing major ..

  • I don't know if it's normal but it took me a little over a month to not feel any of the withdrawal symptoms anymore. I will never suggest this drug to anyone -.-

  • my brother killed himself after starting celexa then after he died my doctor put me on celexa and i tried to kill myself

  • @Killinemdead1 Wow, I don't know if the drug would be the main cause for that though, a lot of us try celexa and have many different results, it depends on your body's chemistry with this formula while others probably benefit better with another medication or no medications at all and instead focus on herbal remedies and/or psychotherapy/counseling. I wish the best of hope for you.

  • @dallasdrummer hey man so aside from the withdrawl have you experienced any time of cognition impairment or loss of personality from being on these drugs? i know it was only short term ive been on celexa for 8 years and am currently weening off have you heard of these drugs ever being brain damaging to a certain extend? anyone can comment with their opinion as well. thanks

  • @Killinemdead1 yah your obviously a nutcase. ive been on it for 9 months. i love it never had any problems . anxiety was worse at first then was gone. my life is back and i love it. stop scareing people. people this is an example of a fruit loop. i had bad anxiety slight depression and its gone. stay on it youll feel great. lol tryedto kill myself get off youtube and go to the looney bin

  • Did you ever feel kind of drunk when you were coming down, but still able to function like you were sober? That's what I'm experiencing

  • @berner yes actually lol

  • can i withdraw after 1-2 weeks ? ?

  • @BunnysiEat yes it depends on the person, however there are a small percent of people that don't get withdrawal symptoms, it also depends on how long you've taken them and their strength (it can take a while sometimes to have your body rely on that medication but once it does and you deny it this drug, it can be hell).

  • @dallasdrummer Did you just stop cold turkey? Cuz you're not supposed to do that. I've been on it for 6 months... I told my doctor I feel like my sex drive isn't what it should be for a 22 year old.. So I just dropped down to 10 today

  • Welcome to hell!!!!

  • I'm going off citalopram. I'm experiencing brain zaps, will these disappear?

  • @Happycheeks93 Ive had these brain zaps too, it's such a weird feeling isn't it? I've decided to wean off very slowly, over the course of 6 months, to get around the withdrawals!

  • anyone have terrible ear ringing? shit sucks..as well as citalopram inhibits my brain from thinking about life correctly. ignorance is bliss

  • If I stop my citalopram, I become agitated, depressed, volatile, self-injurious and destructive.

  • @yaser0 do whatever your physician recommends

  • guys please i am about to take citalopram 20 mg for depression and panic attacks and i am really scared can you please advise me

  • the "brainzaps" is strange stuff.. i have taken 30mg of citalopram for 3years..but thinking about stop.. im like in a useless bubble and have no feelings what so ever..

  • Well, tomorrow is 2 weeks and there is light at the end of the tunnel. The headaches are nowhere near as severe or as frequent and the lightheadedness / vertigo is also subsiding nicely.

  • I am on my 5th day and feel extremly light headed and irrateded, but not suicidal...

  • @paulmattt Yea, I felt lightheaded, dizzy and drowsy the 1st week.

  • @wyteboybb Now I feel much better!

  • Remember we care!

  • Going cold turkey just now and have vertigo, visual and motion disturbances and a consistent thudding headache. Figured it's better to do it quickly and ride it out.

  • @Remur432 it will happen for about 2 weeks, they are called brain zaps, they can make you dizzy and nauseous. rest, drink plenty of water, and try to relax :)

  • @dallasdrummer I went to the dr and was prescribed 20mg of celexa for anxiety and some depression. But i want to know is it because people stop the meds without weaning off so they experience withdrawl or even if you wean off you get brain zaps and all that other stuff sounds horrible. Does everyone experience withdrawl?

  • @LiveStrongg88 Just going through after 3 years on citalopram. Vertigo, dizzyness, lightheaded...

  • Hey man im really scared, im on day 7 of withdrawling from Lexapro the only side effects im having are brain zaps and confusion i want this to go away, HOW LONG WILL THIS LAST!!!! i do not want to go on the lexapro ever again or any other SSRI for that matter!!!

  • @MrNateMedeiros probably about 2 weeks, any longer than that and see your physician.

  • Hi my name is Kai,

My doctor just put me on Celexa 3 months ago and its making me very upset and the mood swings and insomnia are terrible, so im affraid to stop it.. Lol but youre inspiring me. My doctor put me on it for my panic attacks but it seems like its made me worse. Do you know if I were to switch would i have to go thru a 30day detox? I am only on the 10mg kind.. I hope you write back :)

  • @XxCataclysmycxX Hi, yes the panic attacks became more frequent after taking Celexa, you won't have to go through a detox; my doctor tried to basically wean me off of Celexa slowly, 10mg to 5mg to 2.5mg, etc. I eventually switched to paxil and has became a dream med for panic attacks... But withdrawal symptoms are terrible...

  • @patdel92 cold turkey is when you suddenly stop doing something without weaning yourself off slowly at a gradual pace.

  • wats cold turkey?

  • I'm currently withdrawing from this medication and experiencing everything described on this video spoke to gp who is adamant withdrawal symptoms do not happen time for medics to be honest before people take this rubbish

  • I used to take the drug, luckily for me I was able to stop right away and it had no affect on me. lucky.

  • I quit cold turkey which of course was a terrible idea. I think I have every withdrawal symptom labeled on the drug's website! I feel irritable, dizzy, and I'm also getting horrible headaches and nausea! My dreams are even getting weird. I don't recommend this medication. It's putting me through hell right now!

  • @crediblekayla can i ask how ur feeling now that i think its been 2 months ur off the meds? did u have to go back on it or has the withdrawal symptoms gone away??

i cut my dose from 20 to 10 and then to .55 but i started having brain zaps, feeling nauseated and wayyy to tiered, but i wanna go off cuz it made me gain 15 kilos in 9 months and i dont want to be on drugs anymore!!!!

  • Been having BAD headaches, insomnia and nightmares for a couple of months now....

  • Been having BAD headaches, insomnia and nightmares for a couple of months now....

  • i used to take celexa. i took it for 1 month 30mg. i quit cold turkey. i didnt have any withdrawal symptoms but 4-5 months later my anxiety/depression came back. now im on Paxil 40mg been taking it for 6 months.

  • Why is it that anyone that hasnt experienced brain zaps can still believe its happening, yet they cant believe that Fluoride is responsible. >>Fluoride is responsible, i dont take medications & have the zaps, i call them zots. But it didnt start until i moved into a public fluoridated water system. I started to change my diet & steam distilling water. The buzz noises started to reduce. I tested the water with ph/ppm/alkali strips, the public fluoridation is DEADLY.

  • @RGJ88

I have too! I'm going to quit taking it.

I hope that get better for you.

  • this fucking sucks i quit cold turkey a few days ago after taking it for 2 yrs and i feel like complete shitty shit.

  • i was prescribed 30mg and stopped cold turkey at 30mg. this was 3 months ago. i want to go back on it . i was on risperidone too and stopped that the same time i quit celexa.

  • Just wanted to do a shout out, for people who need help withdrawing, check out paxil progress (google it) .

They deal with all kinds of antidepressant withdrawals, as well as reactions. Check it out if you need help! :)

  • @myanxietyuk Seroquel is an antipsychotic that can cause diabetes, permanent movement disorders (which can be fatal, and also come with very severe memory impairments), as well as numerous other severe effects...it has a withdrawal as well. Please be very careful.

  • I took it for only 6 weeks at 20 mg's and I had to quit it 'cause I was having violent fantasies and confusion (I literally forgot which guage on my dashboard was the speedometer). I quit it cold turkey about a month ago and I'm now starting to feel depressed and tonight I'm having boarderline suicidal thoughts.

  • What was your reason to taper to only be put on another med? I want to taper because I don't want anything in my body that is not natural. I'm so frickin nervous to taper off the 30 mg. I'm taking daily. I know I'm going to have a hard time alraedy, jsut by hearing what people's experiences are. I'm going to have to take it as slow as possible. I don't care how long it takes. I just don't want any chemical in my body. Please, wish me luck!

  • @goldfinger1970 tapering for another med is whenever the current med is not working appropriately for the person, everyone is affected differently. The citalopram didnt work but Paxil works great for me and that was the med I switched to.

  • Im on Celexa myself....I forgot to take it for about 3 days and I felt like I was coming down from a fucking heroin binge. I was vomiting all over, I had a pounding headache, and my body was stiff as hell. I'm terrified to stop it....

  • @WonderWeiss324 it is a scary thing to stop but try not to think about stopping it unless you need to, but if you do decide to stop it, just rest assure that there will be bad side effects, some of the worst you may encounter, BUT they will go away. :)

  • What the hell r brain zaps as ive been on citalopram 4 5 years

  • @DRAGONFLYS06 they are withdrawal effects

  • cital is helping me a lot but people should think before taking(do you really think you need this drug, is it worth it) because like this gentleman says, it is a motherfucker when you try and stop, quesy stomach and nonstop spaced out feeling but again it has been a godsend for me

  • @aaronamccoy yes, i hope people understand how this medicine isn't like Zoloft by any means, this medication has to have better benefits to outweigh the side effects and withdrawal symptoms, but i agree how some people it helps for some; for me it did not do the trick but Paxil did work for me and Paxil has a controversy over it as well. All in all, we have to do what we know is best for ourselves and if these pills can help us then we are stronger for taking the actions necessary to thrive.

  • I'm feeling it man, brain zaps aint too much fun! Grumpier than a bear with a bee in his foreskin lol

  • @StuartJohnson1975 yeah it sucks lol, but afterwards it gets better, brain zaps are the worst (aside from the migraines and nausea heheh) ;]

  • @StuartJohnson1975 brain zaps are fun as fuck and it takes me two days to get off it and im on alot

  • @tweak114 you're the only one I know who is optimistic about the brain zaps! xD

    lol, you still take citalopram?

  • Thank you so much for this video, i've also been experiencing the side effects like you (and went cold turkey at 20mg), the worst is probably constant nausea which has been bad for a week, so i'll just grin and bear it for a bit longer. its strange like you say though, i didnt feel like it did anything for me so coming off was a bit surprising that all the side effects came up

  • @rescuelullaby just wanted an update on how things are for you now?

  • @SummerGameProject

The withdrawl for me was rough. It probably took me about 3 weeks to finally feel "normal" again. However, I quit cold turkey and didn't replace celexa with any other medication. When I was on lexapro and switched to celexa I didn't have any withdrawl effects. The withdrawl effects from celexa for me were: irratibility, dizziness, insomnia, brain zaps (that seemed to peak at 2 weeks) and headaches. I have been completely off all medications for 4 months now.

  • sorry but to people saying its not hard to get off citalopram, no it's not 'addictive' in the sense that it's psychologically addicting, but the physical withdrawals that you go through are as intense and last longer than some of the other drugs i've been on (including but not limited to meth, seroquel, fluoxetine, gabapentin, ativan, klonopin, etc...)

the worst parts are the insomnia, the spins/dizziness, the agitation, and the headaches.

  • i have been prescribed this med citalopram and i dont know if i should take it now..after watching some clips about it. I havent started yet , i dont want an addiction on my hand, i mean ive stopped smoking, stopped another opiate painkiller, it would be foolish to bring on another addiction (= cold turkey ) when i could really survive without it. What do you think?

  • it isn't addicting at all, just some minor side effects when stopping, but nothing too serious. i am currently taking paxil and went from 40mg QD down to just 20 mg QD so overall these medicines aren't too bad to get off of, just be brave ;) I'd say give it a try, it isn't as hard to get off as compared to lithium, seroquel, or paxil (which i have tried them all). Let me know how it goes!

  • I've been taking it since 2nd semester of college....Just tried to quit about 2 weeks ago, and I can't make it 3 days without having to take a pill so that I can quit banging my head against walls trying to stop the Brain shocks. I'm angry and confused...The drug did 0 help and I can't get off it

  • @FenderMike1428 brain shocks? god ..i remember those ..i use to get them after taking ecstasy back in the partying days. I hate that feeling. It sounds addictive from what your saying. I have a full packet here, i haven't touched it ..just dont feel like it.

  • @SidneyXda just wanted to ask if you ever took citalopram

  • @dallasdrummer yeah i took it for about a week, the side effects went away but not all of it, there was still this niggling, horrible feeling when you your just fall asleep or wake up from it and food tastes nasty .

  • @FenderMike1428 are you still taking citalopram?

  • I am on day ten of quiting celexa. I seems like the brain zaps/dizzy spells are more frequent now. I am also having trouble speaking properly. Insomnia and irritability as well.

  • what was your dose before you quit? dont revert to going back just yet! it stops out of nowhere usually, buy some valerian root and melatonin, try to support the symptoms with herbal remedies. it happened to me though, everything you said, you arent alone. i even felt like fainting several times.

  • I was taking 20mg pills. The brain zaps are slowing now and not as strong. I still have some insomnia and occasionally get moody. I think the withdrawl effects are getting much better now.

  • good deal, i quit because i seemed to be actually more irritable than i was before the medicine, now i quit the seroquel too (but only temporary for certain reasons) but i still take paxil and it is definietly a lifesaver. :)

  • I was on paxil before celexa. I also took lexapro for awhile but my insurance wouldn't cover it so I had to take celexa. The celexa didn't do much for me. Neither did the paxil. The Lexapro seemed to work fairly well but oh well. I have decided to give up on meds. I was beginning to feel like my doctor was more of a drug dealer than a doc.

  • yeah, maybe some good therapy and other herbal remedies should suffice well enough until something better happens, unless you seek electroshock therapy which i heard leads to phenomenal results.

  • @cclodfe Well he/she is a drug rep basically, so you're not far from the mark. A lot of them now are paid directly by drug companies, and most are rewarded circuitously or directly by the same companies. That's why, if you do have a problem with the drugs, nine times out of ten you'll be told what you are experiencing isn't happening or is due to something else, like the fabled "return of your original condition". Funny then how people on it for IBS can get hallucinations from it. :(

  • Dude quitting cold turkey not a good idea.

  • yeah, i quit citalopram cold turkey, withdrawals sucked! omfg like badly. but right now i'm taking seroquel and paxil and i don't plan to stop them, I've noticed myself nicer at my job and more confident, along with less anxiety and stress; and since i work with patients it is to my benefit.

  • Thanks for the video and good luck without the meds! Hey, do u have some sort of power generator in your room whilst recording?? maybe that's causing the insomnia ;)

  • lol no, that noise is actually my laptop fan (the sound is amplified cuz i was using the mic on my laptop). =]
