  • Justin Beiber - eat your heart out you'll never compare to the fantastic Mr Donny Osmond xx

  • @texnono - right on. I prefer the fantastic Donny Osmond over Justin Bieber too.

    Thanks.

  • still gives me tingles when I hear this - I was sweet 16 when this was in the charts, all of 39 years ago xx

  • I'm a straight dude, but still think this is a magically wonderful paean to cosmic love.

  • it was in 1977 when i heard this, i m 46 now! still love it now..belongs to the era of the david/shaun cassidy (patridge family) andy gibb...the "boy bands of the 70s"

  • @ngjoe77 - still seems like yesterday. I still like Donny after all these years.

  • I was also 13 back in 1973, a boy starting my 'growing' period in England,& as much as I like Sweet,Slade,(never liked Gary Gltter),T-Rex,Mud etc,I adored Donny Osmond, lol, and don't mind admitting it! But then I quite fancied David Cassidy too, hahaha.Oh,happy days!

  • back in 73 I was a 13 year old in england, donny osmond played all the time, the girls loved him and his brothers, but being boys he was too girly for us, we much prefered the sweet, slade and gary glitter (god forbid). but he more then anyone sends me right back to those days

  • @duskejw - thanks for sharing your experience. Actually it is quite normal for a young boy whose

voice has not yet chenged to sound high and feminine. FYI, in Shakespearean days, young boys

    play the women's roles.

To me, it does not matter if a high voice belongs to a male or a low voice (like Tina Turner who sounds

like a male in songs like "What's love got to do with it") belongs to a female.

If a song is good, if the singing style is good, if the voice quality is good, I will like it.

  • A good old classic from Donny Osmond; one the most underrated - and unjustly cristicised - pop/rock stars of the 1970's.

"I'll love u till the bluebells forget to bloom, I'll love u till the clover has lost its perfume, I'll love u till the poets run out of rhyme ..."

Mayb i am becoming a lil too sentimental in my middle-age, but i consider those lyrics to be beautiful (as indeed is the song itself).

  • @TheEctomorph - I like this song and all his songs regardless of high or low voice. This is a very

beautiful song. Glad you like it too. Thanks.

  • I enjoyed that. In my view, Donny Osmond's version of the old song, "The Twelfth of Never" was superior to the earlier versions by Johnny Mathis and (Sir) Cliff Richard, respectively.

I think i am correct in saying that this track reached # 8 in the American 'Hot 100 in the spring of 1973. On this side of the Atlantic, it was an even bigger hit - and did in fact reach the very top of the UK singles chart in March of '73. Its commercial success was deserved, imho; it really is a fine song.

  • This made it to #8 on the Billboard singles charts in the Spring of 1973. I was a senior in High school when this was popular and remember it well. I was not a Donny Osmond or Osmonds fan, but I liked his version of this tune (originally made popular by Johnny Mathis in 1957).

  • @KTA0806 - I like Donny's version too. Thanks.

  • Sorry, still not up to the class yet as other Singers who sang this song ! Also sound like a girl, not a tenor !

  • It's natural for young boys whose voices have not fully changed to sound like a girl. In Shakespearean days,

young boys will play women's roles. I don't judge nor associate whether a male sounding voice belongs to

a male or female & vice versa. There are women like Cher or Tina Turner who sound like men. So who cares if Donny sounds like a girl. In fact, he sounded sweeter than many women in his earlier songs like "Go away little girl". Donny sounds good with the emotional and vocal range.

  • donny voice in this song melt my heart too!

  • @mangpoa64 - me too.

  • @mangpoa64

I should point out - right away - that I am a purely heterosexual, red-blooded male. Having said that, I love the song "The Twelfth of Never", and i think that Mr Osmond's version of it is definitive - and beautiful. I love the lyrics that u refer to in your comment: "Melt my heart like April snow."

Donny Osmond is a genuinely talented (and seriously underrated ) artist. I find it sad that, over the years, he has come in for a great deal of flak, 'stick' and ridicule.

  • @TheEctomorph - thanks for liking the song. The lyrics are beautiful and would appeal to

    anyone regardless of gender.

  • I absolutely loved this song. still do.

  • @thatsthespot58 - this is the song whereby Donny's voice change

    became obvious.

  • @asianfanofdonny Yes, that's right. If Mr Osmond had recorded this song a year or 2 earlier - in 1971 or early '72 - he would (obviously) have sung it in a very high-pitched, childish voice, and the track would have sounded very different. Of course, when his first UK hit single - "Puppy Love" - was recorded (sometime in '72) his voice had not yet changed - or 'broken' (as we Brits tend to say). However, his high-pitched, immature voice suited the subject material of that song.

  • @TheEctomorph - thanks. I like his voice regardless of high or low.

  • This lad sings this song so beautifully. One of the bestest versions I say. We are the same age and I grew up admiring him and his music choices. So wholesome and clean-cut.

  • @intotalawe - thanks for sharing your comments. I agree that

    Donny sings very well too.

  • love donny osmond me

  • @claire2010mcmann - me too.

  • I just love this song so much Donny is the best and he will always be :)

  • @zellyscool - I agree with you. I like Donny's version of any song

    better than others.

  • This reminds me of my mum.

I love you mum, and I'm sorry. I miss you so much.

  • Mum will always love her children regardless of age.

  • Thankyou for putting this song up, this was played at my nans funaral 5 years ago. She wanted me to sing at her funaral but my mums sister wouldn't let me, even though my nan ask me to. Its her anniversary this weekend and i know everybody thinks 'oh its just another nan but my nan was the world to me and i'm only 20 an she still is now' I hope this is like a prayer to her but its the best i have done since she died. I love her and will never forget her I love you nan

  • @dommo1989 - thanks for sharing the touching story. Hope you feel better.

  • @dommo1989 trust me, your nan will be aware of your loving thoughts and will still be looking after you ; don't forget her but remember she wants you to be happy and carry on living ; remember your nan whenever you pass some lonely. forgotten person in the street. A kind word from you would be the finest memorial your nan would wish. God bless.

  • Very beautifully said. Thanks.

  • "Just another nan" but she was your nan and that makes a world of difference to YOU.

Remember her as you wish and remember your love for her & hers for you.

    All the best.

  • Thanks for expressing it so beautifully.

  • good song, thanks :)

  • You are very welcome. Glad you like it.

    Thanks.

  • the song brings back alot of loving memorys from my first love, you've gotto love them have you.just as i do my first love HLT

  • This song also marks the first hit whereby Donny's voice change became very obvious.

The last hit just prior to his voice change was like "Too Young" and "Teenager in Love" whereby you can hear it getting deeper but still very high.

  • For Mark....38 years later you SOB and somehow, we still work. Who;d a thunk. Love you always

  • Great song for one's anniversary with a loved one too. Glad you like the song.

  • you made me cry! Thank you. No one could touch my heart like Donny did. This soul is in his voice and the twinkle in his eyes was awfully cute!

  • A lot of emotions in his song and very touching too.

  • His voice was already changing here.

When he was younger, he sounded even sweeter such as in songs like

    "Go away little girl".

  • Thank you for sharing 5

  • You are very welcome Brinkidouble. Glad I can share it with everyone.

  • I love this song, thank you for sharing dear Samuel, Leila

    ****************

  • Glad I can share this song with everyone. Thanks Leila.

  • I love the Johnny Mathis version of this song...but Donny's version takes me back to my childhood...to the time that you were with me..."Until the Twelth of Never"...Happy Mother's Day, Mom.

  • Donny is good at stretching his notes out to fully express his emotions. I like Donny's version better. Thanks.

  • my mom just found this in an old songbook of hers from when she was in bible school and played it on the piano

  • Thanks Pixurgrl for sharing the memory. We are all somwhow attached to old songs.

  • I'm feeling kind of nostalgic for my youth here!!

  • I'm listening to it, and, at the same time, I'm singing it, letter by letter. A grate memory of the time Donny's voice changed. Thank you thank you... :')

  • Hi Chival, yes, Donny's voice changing became more obvious in this song.

Actually when he sang "Puppy love", it was already changing as it sounded lower than his earlier hits like "Sweet and innocent" and "Go away little girl". But it is less obvious than "Twelfth of Never".

  • Love this song, makes me remember my childhood.

  • Thanks, same feeling for me too.

  • i love this song so much it always remeinds me of a certain person.

  • Hi, glad I can share the song with you and everyone, enjoy!

  • Why the **** do I like this?!

  • It's a great song, thanks.

  • In the 70-ties I went trough my teenage years as a rocker. Listening to the Osmonds was a no no,..(not cool) Why the****do I just lóóóve this song after all these years?

  • Sóóóó much good memories

  • It sure brings good memories, I will always love Donny's singing style, thanks.

  • All I can say to this song is WOW WOW WOW WOW. I still get goosebumps when I hear it 30 years later.

  • Hi Puppylover, this is another of Donny's song that I could never get tired of hearing. I like the emotions he put into the song.

  • Donny Osmond's best song... sung in his youth, Twelfth Of Never been more beautifully evoked -- I simply love this song!!

  • Lovely memories of Donny...I was 9 he was 14 felt like he was singing only to me LOL...ah those were the days...thank you Donny for the memories...

  • You are very welcome 1Weeweegie.

  • Hi Dogedacu, I am still a Donny fan too after all these years.

    Cheers!

  • This song reminds me of his TV show with Marie... he sang this singing in front of the purple D.... Remember? Beautiful song sung by a beautiful man!

  • Hi Kydonnyfan, glad the song brings you good memories. Donny was only a boy at 15 and his voice change was just beginning to be obvious in this song. I think his version sounds better than Johnny Matthis or Cliff Richard's version.

Glad I can share the song with everyone here.

    Cheers!

  • I love donny and this song is beautiful

  • Thanks BillieJeanGirl123. Donny has a way with his singing that really touches the hearts of many girls.

  • yes i've seen him twice in concert. he is so amazing in person.

  • Thanks BillieJeanGirl123. Notice Donny's voice changing got very obvious in this song.

    But he still sounds good.

  • Always said this was my fav. BUT listening to all the LP tracks you've posted I've realised there are so many more of my fav. Donny songs out there....

  • Hi Glcfordco, I know exactly what you mean.

I may say that one of his songs is my favorite and then another and another. This one is where his voice change started to become obvious.

  • O definatley his voice is deeper in this song. I think thats why I said it was my fav for so long. But like I said, you've brought so many memories flooding back its impossible to choose an absolute fav. n e more !!
