Perhaps it was named after Lassie from the books. If it was endorsed by the TV Lassie, there would have been a Rough Coated Collie in the commercial.

Why's the announcer wearing rubber gloves? Is the dog food that disgusting, or is he wearing them for the dog's protection?

Was Lassie dog food named after Lassie the dog?

The background music sounds like Hanna-Barbera 1960's cartoon music used in Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, and The Flintstones.

Can't say for definite if it was named after Lassie the dog, but I'd say it's more than likely!
