Well as someone who's played WoW for >3 years in a guild that while not hardcore has some success in the hardest content I have to disagree.

Initially WoW had a challenge to it if you wanted to find it, now everything from low level to high level content has been horribly dumbed down.

My WoW account's going in 2 weeks, my EQ2 one (been playing a year) is carrying on.

My wallet talks here :) EQ2 just offers more immersion with a more beautiful, varied and dangerous a world to adventure in.

How can you guys compare EQ2 with WoW? IMO they're two completely games set in two different worlds. There is no better game, they're both special in their own way. It's such a stupid thing to argue about. As an EQ2 player I'm glad WoW exists. It brought more players into the MMORPG realm. And if you've noticed the more mature older players have left WoW for games like EQ2 because of how awful the WoW community is. So really, we're benefiting the most here.

You're thinking of EverQuest 2 like WoW. EverQuest 2 is more open ended. Your idea of an MMORPG is GRIND AND MASTER ALL THE CONTENT, GET TO END GAME ASAP, BE THE BEST. EQ2 players mindset is to sit back and enjoy the game.

Heck, a lot of EQ2 players think you level to fast so they turn off combat XP. But to be fair, there's only been like 3 or 4 expansions in the 5 years it's been out.

Though I'll admit, SoE is the WORST company out there. They pump out MMORPGs like crazy then let them die..

You can't really say "better than", they both play completely differently.

WoW was assembled for the mainstream audience and is easy to pick up and play, hence the millions of players; it appeals to a large crowd.

EQ was made (mostly) for hardcore gamers and has much more content and the difficulty is much higher, making it more of a challenge for your casual gamer to swallow. It appeals to it's own fanbase, but that's about it.

EQ2 is more SERIOUS BUSINESS.

And imo it has a better soundtrack.

I think objectively you can say EQ2 is a better, more expertly crafted game, but regardless, its more or less chance which you will prefer between this and WoW.

Think Jazz and Punk, Jazz is objectively better because it has more intricacy and development but regardless lots of people enjoy punk more because of their personality.

WoW and EQ2 both have trials, so check em out would be my advice.

When they were both first released yes you are right. In regard to content quality/amount, there is no comparison. EQ2 is a much deeper, character driven game. Adults play EQ2, where kids tend to avoid it and go to WoW. EQ2 is more hardcore and not watered down like the competition. WoW is like a console version of a MMO game. It's easy, because it focuses on the mainstream quick and easy. You may say that # of subscribers tells the whole story. Kids tend to do what friends do to fit in.
