LOOOOVVVEEEE this movie! Shows Sophie as such a talented actress versus her most recent 'there for a pretty face/body' image, in Hollywood films at least. It's like Jane Eyre without all the depression and plot gimmicks, just a quiet, sad, yet lovely story (sigh...).
I've watched this once and I think I'm going to relax and spend the day watching it until I'm done. Such a situation for a woman to be put in as women were in that day and age. With little choices they could make for themselves. Most weren't educated and raised to marry. They considered themselves lucky to get a rich man but rarely had love. How empty. We women of today owe a great deal to women of the past who finally stood up and we need to help our sisters who are still are in bondage.
Women didn't make themselves victims. Societies rules and the laws made by men, made them the victims. And yet a lot of them took charge and helped themselves out of impossible situations.Thanks for posting! great movie.

Why oh why should the poor girl be responsible for her fathers debts? it seems to me that women have made themselves victims throughout history until now and we should be very thankful for the relative autonomy we have today.
OMG I couldn't even imagine that women did those things like becoming surrogate mothers in those times! Now is easier due to artificial insemination, they dont need to do it old school... well, only If they want to xD lol
