the gesture(mudra) that he makes with his thumb is called Shikara. it usually represents a person holding or drawing a bow. subsequently you can also use it to, say, depict a hunter or anything that has anything to do with hunting. for example, madhuri's "maar daala" dance uses the bow and arrow gestures to show that she is indeed "slain".
