Swick wasn't giving any excuses. He was just saying that after facing some stiff competition in Okami, he should do what all the top athletes do in the UFC, which is to cut weight. Cutting weight gives a HUGE advantage to an athlete and Swick realized he needs to add this to his training regimen. The size difference between Swick and Okami during the fight was one largest size disparities I've seen since the UFC started weight classes.

Swick had wins over decent fighters Joe Riggs, Gideon Ray who was kind of washed up. But those guys arent in the same leauge as Anderson Silva and Rich Franklin, Franklin is too powerful and Silva is just too good of a fighter for Swick.

A desision is a win, Franklin had five rounds and evan he couldnt finish Louseau. You cant critisize Swick for that. And at the time Louseau was an important fighter at 185lbs. Plus Joe Riggs is a lot better fighter then people give him credit for. Swick didnt believe in his own hype, hes a smart guy, good fighter, and will come back. Okami was just the better fighter that night.

It's not so much that Swick is overrated. He's still a very good fighter at Middleweight. But Okami has been pretty under the radar, and not many people have seen his fights. So he's kind of underrated in this fight. He does have a great clinch game and has good plum clinch defense. I would love for them to setup a title fight rematch with him and Silva.
