  • She is definitely the best performer of this concerto that I have heard.

  • best part 8:22

  • Bravo.

  • Ahhhh! 8:16 , just pure ecstasy

  • @dubblebubble898 I just can't resist to that part. I tought I die each time I listen to it!

  • The piano in this concerto seems to be alive. Great music!

  • Im not an expert but is is probably the best interpretation i ever heard. I think it is important, to understand that the prokofiev music is antiromantic - "liric" is not the same way. To understand that phenomenom we should listen original interpretation of Prokofiev - some times he is like totalitarian machine, some times he is sensitives but olways situtated inhuman coincidence. Most of modern pianist are too touchy to carry his work in cold perspective. But Martha can make it! Brilliant!

  • Listening to this I can see why people say Argerich is the greatest.

  • the score must look like a massacre. fantastic.

  • haha, all relative I guess. :-) I would say those two are "harder" if only because they're not as well-known. Like most of his music, the Brahms is so tough but maybe not as "flashy".

  • That was.... AWESOMEEEEE!!!!!

  • totalmente posseduto da questo gra finale!

  • Not the hardest "modern" (not even modern anymore, really) composition, because the 2nd concerto is WAY harder, but I agree that Argerich is one of the greatest pianists, this is one of the coolest piano concerti, and personally, this is my favorite piece she plays! Incredible!!! By the way, I bet Argerich could play Prok 2 like it was nobody's business...

  • @OrangeSodaKing It's overplayed to the point of being cliched, but Rach 3 is still the most difficult standard concerto out there. But yes, Prokofiev 3 is so much better.

  • @lflagr Really? I know many pianists who play Rach 3, and they said both Prokofiev 2 and Brahms 2 are harder.

  • @djmixah that's your opinion. everyone has his own thoughts, and mine are exactly like phoxee's.

  • my fingers hurt after just listening to thisXD

  • Is that 1967?

  • best musician alive, best pianist ever lived, no argueing with that.

  • Really? I wouldn't say she is the best pianist that ever lived. Though best living pianist, maybe.

  • well, maybe one of the best ever lived, but definately the best musician alive today!

  • Let me guess: Are you argentinian???

  • no i'm english. :)

  • Well I am very impressed with her. I give her the highest mark I can on here.

  • Incredible performance!

  • wow argerich looks o beautiful here!!! not a witch from salem witch trials

  • This piece is so absurdly impressive. Like someone else commented, simply breathtaking.

  • Yes. Her style is so technically fluent and crisp - perfect for this.

  • She is truly wonderful! I think she's one of the best for playing Prokofiev's music. Simply breathtaking!

Thank you so much for posting this.

  • geweldige uitvoering|

    in mijn beoordeling de beste.

  • The greatest living pianist playing the most difficult of all modern compositions. Strength and beauty pours forth from this lady

in waves. It's a pity more people haven't heard it.

  • I have to disagree. I don't know if you play the piano or not or if you are going by heresay concerning the third piano concerto but the fifth is the hardest out of all of his concertos period. It is a monster to learn and play.

  • No, its the 2nd! The 2nd is considered one of the hardest of the piano repertoire!

  • Why do people always want to get upset about an opinion or even an established fact. The second is indeed exceptionally difficult and it's known for being ferociously difficult. Especially the last movement but have you ever studied the fifth to know the difference or are you basing that off of the hype in the industry? The fifth is rarely even played which is why people talk more about the 2nd's difficulties. Barbara Nissman said playing the 5th is like being a trapeze artist w/out a net.

  • i clearly remember Yundi Li saying that prokofiev's 2nd piano concerto was the hardest thing he'd ever attempted to play (not that he's necessarily tried playing the 5th piano concerto).

i can't say that i've "studied" both concerti (i wouldn't know where to begin at this level of difficulty), but i've heard the 5th (i'm especially familiar with the 1st movement) and i'm a HUGE fan of the 2nd.

i can't say that i was very impressed with the 5th. it didn't sound as difficult as the 2nd at all...

  • moreover, you've implied that the peak of difficulty of the 2nd concerto was the last mvmnt. i'm not contradicting you, but i'm just saying that the cadenza in the 1st movement looks like HELL. i've NEVER seen a pianist get it all right (not live).

i'll try listening to the 5th concerto again. i'll check out a version other than Brendel's. maybe Richter's.

  • @phoxee "greatest" is a bit excessive.

  • @djmixah actually it is not excessive. In a poll given to many professional pianist Martha Argerich was ranked the best living pianist with Kristian Zimerman at #2, and Argerich is considered the only living pianist in the top 10 of all time. Who in the world do you think is better than Argerich anyways?

  • @2012Ronpaul2012 Well, maybe not better, but Sokolov is up there IMHO. I heard him perform half a year ago, truly amazing!

  • @2012Ronpaul2012 Yuja Wang...

  • she kinda kinda looks like penelope cruz there lol

  • nice photo
