I love Juan Piquer Simon's movies, especially Supersonic Man. That movie's way better than Superman.

I've been trying to find information about this film for a long, long time. I saw it with my parents when I was really young, maybe just three or four (I have a damn good memory) and saw it on television throughout the eighties but it disappeared. This film is damn cool.

@MattBL, did you even read a translated version of Jule Verne's novel?

Axel Lidenbrock (german) is the narrator, his uncle Otto (german) is the scientist and Hans Bjelke is a guide,

the only truthfull thing for me is the fight beetween the two monsters at 1:05 however no girl in Verne's version, no King Kong etc, so read the novel it's a low version in Verne's work.

It is not faithful to the theme of the original: a psychological journey of a father-figure uncle and his "son"/nephew reconciling their relationship. No girl tagged along in the novel because of that. Most movies feel the need to insert a girl.

My all time favorite movie. It packs in so many fantasy elements, but always in a way that they're just about believable with a little effort. It's true that it adds some things to the original book, but in other ways it's closer in spirit than the recent movie, which never takes itself seriously.

Sorry for the delay - the quarter begins. One thing - depends upon what translation you are reading. There are some very poor translations which changed the novel. But one main thing is that no woman went with them on the journey. Which changes the whole theme of the story. 2) no giant King Kong-type ape in the novel - a giant cave man, though (herding giant mastodons). There are many other differences but I am running out of commenting space.

This is NOT "very faithful" to the novel. It still is a fun movie, but it is not faithful to the novel (especially in themes).

For one thing, in the novel, there is a ground sloth and a giant ape.
