Blue Mars is the total opposite of There.com. Blue Mars has near photorealistic graphics and very little content and barely any active users. There.com has cartoon graphics and a lot of content with some very loyal fans as it's users.
@MassZombicide Right now they've backed off full virtual reality and are just doing avatars on mobile devices, I think, so there's nowhere even to point-and-click to.
@OspreyTherian while I do not understand why your reply currently states that it was posted 6 hours ago given that my comment that you're replying to was posted 50 minutes ago, it seems you're right. I wouldn't have thought a project so grandiose as to be in partnership with e.g. National Geographic would just end like this but it sadly seems so, especially sad since after watching others, it seems it wasn't limited to point & click at some stage. Well, luckily the beta is apparently available.
@MassZombicide I noticed that 6 hour thing too - who knows! The people with regions in Blue Mars can still access them, and I believe visitors can go there (to places like Caledon), but I haven't been back since I made this video. Who knows, they might rise again.
Everytime I look at such type of game, I can't stop myself but think of the possibilities on how virtuality can become reality if this was on xbox kinnect... you don't have to type codes to give expressions...
@Mrtassan The more simple webcam-transfers-your-expression-to-avatar seems like the way to go first. That would be useful to everyone, including those who need VR the most, i.e. those without full use of their bodies.
they should have used Unreal engine instead, it is more acceptable to most computer's performance. direct 9 can pretty much do what DX10 can with the right codes
I really don't know about this. The graphics are incredible, but all the things that make SL so good are missing. The easy user creation from SL will be hard to replicate, if they're even planning user creation.
The possibilities in Second Life also seem greater, the movement is much more free, and is over all a much better experience.
@TheSleazySaint I agree - I love SL. For me there's no comparison, however we live in this exciting time when virtual worlds are springing up! I think it's fun to explore and after all, we can go to various worlds for different reasons.
Blue Mars doesn't have building tools or editing tools like SL. It supports user content, but based on using external programmes, such as Maya and DAZ 3D
Amazing and altho blue mars looks PG . Its downfall can be content creation by 3rd parties and Org's only - I assume costs of this Vworld is high coz content creators rent of build devs & build devs rent from city devs, city devs rent server space of blue mars inc.
I got accepted into the closed beta just now, downloading the client... pleased to see it's only 1.3gb for the demo levels, but I'm afraid that the full game will be like 13GB rofl
Oh well, it'll probably be worth it, and I god damn hope it has an option to play for free (with less benefits or whatever) at least until I get a job lol
ha I'm not surprised, I was keeping the entropia installer for the day that they finished building it on the cryengine2 but I guess now I'm not too keen :S
ranking system as in.. ranking of wealth? I'm not sure, I haven't played it very much.. but there's no ranking system for like most places visited or most people spoken to or anything
Yeap... if you can run Crysis, then you will be able to run Blue Mars. It's based in the same engine. Any card with 512MB DDR2 or better, will work fine.

SL have better graphics than this, the problem is if your graphic card is enough to play it, mine is not and all SL is grey, slow, and horrible ¬¬

There comes a time when a corporation becomes a landmark and a household name in a particular industry.
Just like McDonald's with fast food, Secondlife will be always known to be an icon in the virtual world community.
A newcomer to the Virtual world will probably learn of Secondlife before any other virtual world.

You don't need a $5000 computer. You only need a $500 computer. Most $100 video cards run Blue Mars really well.
