Fun game but the brakes on cab mode are crap. I know it takes time in real life but when you have 12 empty flats cars and are going 10 MPH and dump the air you are going to stop in like 20 feet not 100 feet.

If steam trains are slow you aren't driving them properly. I got Mallard up to 156 mph just below Appleby on the S&C on TC3

Just 156? I got the Golsdorf 380 up to 230 mph on Train Simulator.

Under what situation? Running with a 10 coach train on a real line with other traffic kind of limited my options. Also 156 is theoretically possible for an A4 with its 75 mph design speed whereas the 380 would shake itself apart at that speed.

10-coaches (although the coupler broke loose about 130 MPH) and clear track with maximum boiler pressure possible. In other words, if in real life, one slip-up and I'da been a dead man.

An A4 could technically touch on 200 if handled right, but it takes precise moves and fast decisions. I was on the Whitefish run when I pulled it off, but it was a while ago, so I don't remember the throttle adjustments and all that jazz, but it's possible.

The opinion of Joe Duddington was that Mallard had about another 20 mph in her - he should know he was driving her. The Ultra-high-speed steam engines always have problems on sims with realistic maximum speeds.

I'd probably agree with Joe with the Mallard. It probably woulda gone a lot faster if it didn't have boiler trouble when it hit top end.

Well that's the thing, Doc. Simutator programmers aren't aware of the armchair hogger who's gonna make a steam engine really go for broke. Know what I mean?

Heh...easier way to make the steamer faster, go into the config file, find the line that says "max speed" or "top speed" or something, and set it to 2000... :) I got up to 190,951 MPH by setting it to 4000 on the Hot Rod Special F7 from Auran's BrewCrew...
