Is this only 100 fps? (reading from someone else's comments here) It looks A LOT slower to be able to slow those propeller blades. I'm wonder what camera was was used? I remember Dalsa, before they sold out their cinema tech built a camera that was doing 4K and also some crazy fps rate of 200 or more I can't really remember, but it definitely made my eyes bug out when I initially saw it and that was at least 3 years ago.

But there are two differences: the quality is not much better than that of a good cell phone

By the way Marie, that's NOT pollution you see comming out of the planes..... it's a pesticide/birdacide used to kill the overpopulated seagulls who pose a danger to the race spectators. Seagulls are extremely aggressive during mating season, which just happens to coincide with the annual Red Bull Race. As you can tell from the music, this video originally contained only footage of seagulls who were shredded by propellers. It was edited to satisfy animal rights groups.

Well,.. framerate is part of why they still use film ..24fps has a different look / feel than 29.97 or 30fps . But mostly, it is films higher dynamic range/ contrast ratio and depth of field ability that makes it superior for motion pictures. You can try and emulate these things with digital , but it never looks quite the same.

quality has nothing to do with it, its the frame rate, this was shot at around 200 frames per second than reduced to the standard, 24 fps.

frame rate makes a world of difference, thats why all movies to this day are still shot with motion picture film, variable frame rates, any type of lens, etc.

200 fps ?! This is no less than 1000. Did you see Tony Scott's Deja Vu ? The boat explosion sequence was a combination of 11 cameras running at between 60 and 320. To stop motion like in this video, it takes a lot more than 200.

There are other cameras than that one. They just don't get as much publicity, mostly because they're very expensive. How about the Phantom ? That one is 1000 frames. NASCAR on FOX used it a lot for this season. Great shots.
