That's a great idea and made me realized why some professional soloist breathed so exaggeratedly. But I have a question. How do u actually control your breath when playing fast notes like separate bow semi-quavers? As far as I can understand from your video is that we should inhale when playing up bow and exhale when playing down bow. Please guide me. Thank you!
I just found these videos, and they have made want to learn violin.
I do not know how to read music, but I can play by ear - piano -, none the less, my question for you is, how do I know when the bow should go up or down when playing, and when to start up or down, or to the diagonals (yes, I know this question may sound stupid, but just trying to set an image so if I'm ever able to get me a violin I can start to teach myself to it) Thank you :)
@ginagaladriel Generally speaking we play down beats and strong beats on down bows, and pick up notes and weak notes on up bows. There are also symbols to indicate whether you should be going up or down.
So this is completely out of topic, but I really can't think of anyone better to answer this question.I’m a petite person (5'3") who plays a 4/4 violin and bow and I'm not sure if this is the reason why I cannot reach the tip of the bow when playing =( My bowing is straight however, so I'm not sure if the problem is on the size of the violin or am I doing something wrong like tensing my arm/shoulder,or is it that my arm doesn't have enough flexibility, I rly have no idea,I hope u can answer me!
Totally! Breathing makes a huge difference particularly because you are able to deliver more oxygen to your brain and muscles. I adore this channel and I showed it to my professor :)
@1985OldSkool When I want to learn something, I want the best information I can get out of my internet, and I appreciate it when I find it! That's what I'm trying to do for others.
Thank you Beth for post your knowledge! I began with the violin only a few months ago and I want to learn more about this wonderful instrument, and I would love to have an excellent and beautiful teacher like you!
This is not esoteric at all but fundamental! I'll try and be even more aware of breathing when I practice later in the day. Thank you for the inspiration!

If that's all you can afford then I shouldn't discourage you. But a $40 violin is likely to give you trouble and be difficult to play.
