I would love to do that. Growing up around the tower, its always been a real dream of mine to actually climb the antenna mast and stand on the top. Kudos to you on being able to do this. Where do I apply? :)
Yikes! I wonder what the RF exposure is like when you're inside climbing up. Being on the same level as the transmitters gives me a massive headache, I can only imagine what that would have been like...
@HICKS439 Nahhhh.. Balls of titanium, or any ferrous metal, would be be glowing red hot and sparking from all the RF Radiation. That would not be fun. I'd say my balls are probably more like a good oak, or a hardened spruce.
wow, thats insane, i helped my dad this past summer restain our cottage and went up on the roof to do so, i thought that was scary, that would be a cake walk for you guys
I work with military radar on aircraft. We get told all this shit about how to stay away from the nose when transmiting... blah blah blah and how its safty first. But once we actually hit that flightline, safty is the last thing on anyone's mind. Its about fixing those aircraft and launching jets. We get blasted by the radar a lot. After a bit we can only have daughters cuz it messes with our testicals and stuff... after that no kids. Whoo! haha. That tower does not look maintanance friendly.
@kakashimorph Thanks man. The funny thing about being that high, is that the ground is actually out of focus in your peripheral vision, so the vertigo effect is lessened. Vertigo is also magnified by mental stress; the 500 foot confined space ladder climb through the RF hot zone gives you a chance to release some of that stress. Coming out of the dark tunnel at the tip, swinging open the steel hatch and squeezing out into the morning sun is like a re-birthing experience, I shit you not.
I hate heights, I dont know how you guys do it, but I totally respect that. I had a few mini heart attacks when the camera went off to the side every now and then, and I nearly peed my pants when you were swinging around at the end there!
@abisset1 Yeah, it was a lot of fun. 12 hours a day, 7days a week for eight months straight; half of the job was at night. You're the first person to recognize the RF noise; I had short term memory loss for a year after the job, my mouth tasted like metal for about six months. Fun stuff eh?
Makes my legs feel weird...lol...Dam..^_^

Kind of funny, I think my claustrophobia would kick in while being in that ladder hole before I would ever have an issue with the heights.

@gmcnewlook I hate roofing; there's nothing to tie on to. I guarantee this job is safer than roofing. And waaaay more fun.
belfastboyca 1 year ago 2
@belfastboyca I agree with that, all i meant was the height isn't as high as the top on the tower
gmcnewlook 1 year ago
@belfastboyca roofers actually do tie off, retarded ministry makes em you'll see them running across the roof now lol

mental, totally mental. i like how every now and again you can hear the raw RF radiation picked up in the camera.
