This song is a diverse and varried diversion of the original song and should be taken as serriously as any other rendition or inspired song...Chaka is flawless...the band is poppin...whats wrong with it?...Everything is not going to be the same on this planet.....THANK GOD!!!!!...So just chiiilllllllllL...and dig what U can...while U still can!...Cause I KNOW I WILL!....and I thankyou!
Hi rjmuzac and paddeyOmalley. I'm truly sorry that you feel that way. I am also sorry that you have terrible taste in music. Maybe when you get a little bit smarter you will realize that
A. This version of this song is a pile of ripe shit
B. Both of your taste in music has always sucked
C. Great musicians create some real garbage sometimes

first off this version is jazz funk fusion, not pure jazz..and this awesome rendition has the seal of approval by the master of the original song himself,,Dizzy Gillespie!! and because of the lyrics,,this song gains more popularity among jazz vocalist and musicians alike and the musicians playin are some of the finest, greatest musicians around..shut your ignorant trap.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion, and I'm glad you gave your opinion. "Keep the negative shit in your head" is terrible advice. I personally am more satisfied with the lyrics Ella Fitzgerald sings on some recording.
HOWEVER, the re-harmonization is fucking awesome, and the scat is rather nice, IMO. (It's fun to analyze, as I had done earlier today with my teacher.) Anyways, when it comes down to it, the version on record probably sounds nicer (haven't heard it) and Diz's version is best.
Chaka really knows how to use her background vocalist, as she is an excellent lead and background vocalist herself. Lisa Fisher really did her thing!!!
alright Lisa, you betta sang

Vinnie Colaiuta is drummer!

You know, I like Vinnie a lot. But Steve Ferrone's groove on the original was so deep.

Lisa Fischer hit - that - note! Her full voice has much more power than she actually uses.
