Team captains wore red prior to the game, ended up in black right as the game started; he unfortunately had to go out on the field to practice kicking and didn't want people to see the black jersey. This would be why it was under his red.

No - They practiced in their original red jerseys and then swapped into the black ones in the locker room, but Coutu had to practice kicking so he wasn't able to go in the locker room at that time to change - So he had to do it on the field.

Yes, this was planned, originally, the team wore the red jerseys to practice in, but they swapped in the locker room, but Brandon had to practice kicking while the team was in the locker room so he didn't get a chance to change out of his red jersey.
