This play ran for many years until it was retired about two years ago. The same screenwriter created a new Sherlock Holmes play for Roger to perform. The new play is called The Death and Life of Sherlock Holmes. Roger brought the new play to the USA for a limited run in perhaps a few cities. From what I hear the new play is doing as well as the original. As I recall the play ran for about 90 minutes. You can ask Roger at: thelastact@hotmail.co.uk
Saw Roger this evening at the Palace Theatre, Newark (Feb 27 2010). I am a volunteer usher, and see most productions at our beautiful theatre. Roger's performance was the best non musical event that I have seen this year. I would even pay to see it again !!!. Truly, an enjoyable, beautifully acted one man show which deserves a wider audience.
Does anyone know if this is available on DVD or something, somewhere? I would buy it in a heartbeat. I live in NY, so I doubt I would ever get to see a showing of this.
@Kyousuke687 HI, I don't think this is availlable in DVD but it has been release at the end of the 2009 by Big Finish audiobook. This is the audio of the play. I bought it and it's a pure pleasure to listening to it. I would really like to see it live on stage. If you need more info just contact me.
I saw this Play age's ago and loved it - I would rate this as the best bit of theatre that I've seen (been to many Sherlock productions plus west end performances inc. opera). I saw 'The Death and Life of Sherlock Holmes' last year in Oxford and enjoyed that too but not as much as this one. I'd love there to be a good video of it (even though it would not have the same atmosphere and effect as a live performance), or if nothing else for it to tour again so I can take all my friends to see it.
I saw Roger in The Death & Life of Sherlock Holmes yesterday, its the new play which is touring at the moment and I must say it was excellent, the audience were spellbound. Its a clever twist on the relationship between Conan Doyle and Holmes with Moriarty confronting Holmes with the fact that he is in fact a fictional creation! 'Can you remember which University you went to Holmes? can you picture the face of your mother or father? a rare site the great detective looking baffled' dont miss it!
Jeremy Brett will always be Sherlock Holmes to me, however Roger Llewellyn looks extremely good as Holmes in later life, and shows a flambouyant style reminisent of Jeremy's portrayal. With the top hat and frock coat he looked a lot like him. I would love to see this play. I have read the script of The Last Act which was published by Calabash Press and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Terrific to get the chance to see Roger Llewellyn's highly praised performance. This looks professionally produced. Is the play available on DVD somewhere?
Thanks Worldromer. I'd hoped that the whole play might have been taped to the same high standard. Thanks for preserving part of such a fine performance.

Saw it last night - it was fantastic!! I found his acting last night was a lot better than here in this clip - more dramatic and more emotional
