  • Yngwie Malmsteen of keyboards

  • @KLSinCT - the maximum for the SGX-1 piano model is 100 notes (stereo notes with damper resonance). The other synthesis types have different max polyphony- see the full specs at korg. com/kronos

  • I don't think fast runs on such a patch really have an effect...u know what I mean, hopefully...but with a guy like Jordan, u may dare to differ and accept the shit!! I soooo want this fucking instrument!! :D

  • Keep in mind one thing. Muted layers in every mode eat polyphony. No other workstation does this.

  • @mr4y - If you want to disable a combi or sequence timbre so that no polyphony is used, there's a Status button right above the Mute button (for each timbre). If you set a timbre's status to Off, no polyphony will be used.

The timbre Mute buttons work just like on an audio mixer. If a timbre is muted and you play a key or audio track, it is still playing- but its signal is silenced. If you then unmute it, you will hear it.

  • @johnplanetz On Kurzweil's PC3 muted layers don't use polyphony. It's one of the main complaints in the Korg Forums along with the endless RH3 issues.

  • @mr4y - there are two buttons per timbre on the screen: the Mute button works like an audio mixer, while the status button when set to Off works like you want. In any case, a global preference to choose the Mute button behavior would be a good addition.

  • @johnplanetz Switching elements off defeats the whole purpose of using combi mode. You have all that supposed power under the hood(although it's inferior processing wise to the early OASYS) and you would think that basic stuff like polyphony limit wouldn't be a issue, like it wasn't with the PC3(intelligent voice stealing algorhythm and no polyphony isue with muted layers) or the Jupiter 80 (256 note polyphony). In this regard, PC3 run circles around the Kronos.

  • @mr4y - if you like, imagine that the current Mute button says something like "Silence", and the status-off selector says "Mute". Now that button works just like you're requesting, and there it is, already there. And as I said, it's a good suggestion to add a global preference to let you select "No Polyphony Usage when Muted" for the Mute button.

  • @mr4y - Playing a single note on a layered Kronos combi can request literally 1000s of voices- it has to make some choices about what will sound. Every system has its limits. The stealing algorithm in Kronos is really quite sophisticated. Broad generalizations and comparisons such as those you're making are meaningless. The Kronos will exceed its competitors in some areas, and not in other areas. If you like the PC3, great- buy one! But claiming it "runs circles around the Kronos" is silly.

  • @johnplanetz I'm not making that. I can tell you that a number o Kronos owners agree that Kurzweil has the upper hand in this regard. Keep in mind that the whole issue is not about voice stealing algorhythms. The whole isse is that muted voices in Combi mode will use polyphony and this doesn't happen with the PC3, which can have 32 layers per program and up to 16 programs in "combi" mode, while having no polyphony used when layers are muted, which does happen in the Kronos.

  • @mr4y Is no excuse to make such a primordial effect while still calling this keyboard a game changer? What changed? Korg keyboards already had this issue years ago.

  • @mr4y And this is not even the biggest issue with the Kronos in general. The biggest issue is the numerous faults with the RH3 keybeds as well as the VST editor false advertising. What I'm talking about could be described as a pet peevee.

  • @mr4y - Korg has publicly addressed the RH3 issues. If your Kronos has a keybed problem, contact Korg for repair. The VST editor delay is unfortunate, but these things happen sometimes. Your "Mute pet peeve" is a matter of perspective. There are benefits to the Korg Mute implementation, but it clearly is not your personal preference. You're making way too big a deal out of it, and completely ignoring what I've said. Please that's enough on that here, thanks.

  • @johnplanetz On the VST, is not a delay. It's now at the point of false advertising. It was announced since the beginning in videos and even Korg's website(it should still be there yet). It even was one of the marketing strategies from Korg. Delayed or not delayed there's no excuse for that. If they didn't had a editor ready, then they shouldn't announce it in the first place. Period.

  • wow so expressive cool playing

  • john i gotta say the more i learn about you and from you the more respect i have for you.

  • All of these patches sound strikingly similar to two VST's i have on my computer, which i use with Ableton. KORG M1 and KORG WAVESTATION. Why the big fuss over something that sounds like its twenty years old?

  • @Oblivionduff I kind of have to agree with you on the sounds. But, What if think makes this one different is the awesome level of customization. I'm not sure if you've checked out the offical Korg promos on this but it does seem to offer a lot more to tweek than prior units. Ps: is your name based on The Elder Scrolls?

  • bir de düğüncülerden onay almadan 4 para etmez bu alet. harmandalı seni bekler kronos cuğum. kusura bakma.

  • idol!!!!!!!

  • Does Kronos has RPPR and chord assign to pads(in kronos the pads are in the screen) like M3..? If anyone knows, please let me know.. Thank you in advance..

  • @jerryKJose - yes to both.

  • @jerryKJose Yes and you can add a Korg nanoPad to control drums or the chords.

  • All keyboards should be arrangers and just let people use the feature or not.

You don't have to use them but hey they are there if you want to use them.

I say put it all in one box and let the artist use what they want. Why have all those

    models.

  • what a CRAP... I'm disappointed!

  • Great; now I need this piece of equipment. (At least I already own that sweet Beatles shirt Jordan is wearing.)

  • At the demo take a flashlight with you. Point it at the screen and see if you still can see the info on the screen.

  • 1:07 - listen to how fucking great i sound!

  • as much as I love Jordan Rudess you can't really get a general sound from his demos because he uses a distinct set of tones that most people wouldn't know how to use lol

  • God dammit I lost the game!

  • Jordan is the best!

  • I always have the hardest time with these "musical" demonstrations, especially with new keyboards. These demonstrations are done in a sterile environment, with great musicians doing the demonstrations. Personally, I want to know if the keyboard will hold up under the most strenuous working conditions, like direct sunlight (if doing an outdoor gig), and many other factors. Also, does Jordan Rudes already have this keyboard in his collection? If so, cool. If not, why not? Points to consider.

  • @trux04 - yes, it will indeed be helpful to find a store like Guitar Center that carries the instrument so you can play it in person. But I don't know of anywhere that'll let you take it outside in the sun :) Yes, Jordan now has a Kronos in addition to his OASYS.

  • @johnplanetz Do you know if his main keyboard will still be oasys, or he switched to Kronos now that he have one?

  • @trux04 He plays kronos instead of oasis live from this tour on…

  • Korg have done it again. There is nothing else on the market like it. Yep

  • is that the 73 or 88?

  • @clipbrowser - i think that was an 88

  • @johnplanetz thank you :)

  • It sounds way too much processed just like other Korg romplers.

  • 9:31 crazy improv!!!!! loved it!!!!!!!

  • @linn1000 ... and that's the case with most of the great nice expensive keyboards on the market for the last decade or more... I've been deceived as well, not once.

Sadly, it's all about the money for the "big guys"! :(

  • @AL7X7 - of course he will! :)

  • @AL7X7 - nothing wrong with the oasys. it was released in 2005. it's now 2011, so as with all things, technology has changed. the multicore processor in the kronos allows for things like seamless sound transition, and polyphony is unaffected by effects load, etc. the oasys continues to be an amazing and groundbreaking instrument, and the kronos is next evolution of that tech. the oasys has some features that the kronos lacks, like tilting screen leds around knobs/sliders, etc. it's up to you!

  • @johnplanetz a new kronos also costs less than a used oasys :D

  • i love Rudess but he has plastered his name alongside so many major synths and workstations I don't give his endorsements nearly as much weight as I once did in years past. Roland , Kurzweil , Korg, Muse....the list goes on.

    Great playing as expected though.

  • @NNITRED The OASYS, Fantom G-8, and K2600xs are all very worthy keyboards that he has endorsed and that I love.

  • @NNITRED Well, what do you expect? There isn't a professional keyboard (or guitar for that matter) player out there who would sincerely claim that one instrument was the best for all situations.

  • Comment removed

  • 6:01 this groove and synth remember me Jan Hammer and Miami Vice Sounds

  • @kurzyroly You totally hit the nail on the head. I was just about to comment on the Jan Hammer vibe when I found your comment.

  • He's turned into Tori Amos at the 10 minute mark !

  • on looser does not love this !

  • I'm a fan of his but man does he noodle too much! Slow the fuck down!! lol Less is more sometimes...

  • @ditroiamusic Couldn't agree more! He's a brilliant keyboard player, but not a very good musician, to put it harshly.

  • the game

  • What the heck is this 1911 thing at the bottom right of the video???

  • He's so cheesy :b

  • Cost?

  • @GeneticAsymmetry The launch price of Kronos is 3799 dollars :)

  • @Emilienn84 U can get it for 3500 from sweetwater.

  • Love the his 2nd improv. Nice sounds on a powerful machine!

  • Great video, I love it! Too bad I just lost the game watching it.

  • @linn1000 i feel your pain and you do have a point.

  • Long time ago, many people like Jordan refused to play keyboards with rhythms (Arranger Keyboards).

Today, most demonstrations of this kind of workstations are performed exactly as an Arranger Keyboard, like Yamahas PSRs and Tyros, Roland E Series, Korg PA Series, etc.

Why these guys do not helped to develop this technology before?

We would have keyboards with more competitive prices today.

    Better late than never.

    Muitas Emoções!

  • @u7club There's a difference between Arranger Keyboards and Workstations with ARPEGGIATORS.

  • @u7club They are not using any Accompaniment style... They use arpeggios or drum tracks. In Korg, KARMA plays a vital role in performance which is the most powerful tool a synthesizer can ever get. And Kronos has 4 KARMAs in COMBI mode. That makes her the best in its class. It seems that they are using an arranger, but actually it isn't. Even though it sounds like an arranger, it is very far better than an arranger. An arranger like PSR, PA, E-Series will never get even a 30% of sound quality

  • KRONOS is the greatest of all..!!! OMG.!!! What a BOARD.. WHO can beat this music monster..!!

And at last I found the real master whom I can point to and call him a Synthesizer, Workstation, Arranger.. He is KORG KRONOS, the greatest..! " HAIL KRONOS, the KING of my Musical fantasies " Let your name be glorified among others. All glory and honour we give to you alone. We adore your sovereignty " Oh.! The emperor of Music.. Let us exalt your mighty name above all.." You alone deserve glory..

  • @u7club of Kronos. Since it is a MUSIC MACHINE rather than a musical instrument. You can do ever greater things than an arranger in an ideal workstation like KRONOS. Because its 9 independent sound engines work simultaneously without affecting the effects and quality of the other. Which you can't get in any other boards like MOTIF, FANTOM etc. This makes KRONOS distinct from others and KRONOS is my board and the one WORD for a SYNTHESIZER..

  • @u7club Dude! The Kronos isn't an arranger keyboard. It's a workstation. And yes there's a very big difference. Go pick up a Yamaha Tyros if you want to play at Wedding anniversaries or such.

  • i sure wish the casing wasnt so fucking ugly. also no tilt up display? pssh.

    ill take two!

  • @zonkedhombre The only difference is that one is an Arranger Keyboard and the other no ...

I hear drums, bass and chords (with arpeggiators or other kind of feature) just like an Arranger Keyboard.

    Or I'm not hearing well?

Music is music. It should be valued at all stages.

    Muitas Emoções!

  • the game...

  • @Randyolsson - the full sign reads "the game has been changed"

  • @Randyolsson damn iv lost the game...

  • In my group of about 12 people there are 2 musicians and 1 DJ and my job is completely unrelated to music. But 3 out of 12 still is quite a lot.

And music is quite related to math/logic, both the tone system, but especially synthesizer 'programming & sound building (Oscillators, filters etc).

    Thanks for the answer anyway!

  • I almost started a study to combine software engineering with music, but that market is very difficult here in the Netherlands so I continued with software engineering only. So music is my hobby (and Korg synths help me a lot in that).

I was wondering what kind of programming language is used (maybe a bit obsessive, but that's the way I roll ... where did I hear something similar?).

Good luck with your job ... looking at the videos and knowing from present Korg synths you are doing well.

  • @michelkeijzers - we code mostly in C++, C and x86 assembly. Interesting it seems that most software engineers are also musicians! Perhaps these pursuits involve similar areas of the brain? :)

  • @johnplanetz I too am a musician and soon to be software engineer. Many of the people I've studied with were musicians too. Maybe coding is like writing music, who knows. (:

  • he's pippin' the Kronos real hard….

  • The best show of power I have seen so far. Thank you for fighting the crowd and filming this for us. Thank you! :)

  • The background made me lose the game! D=

  • @jhonplanetz what are big diffrents betweeen Kronos and korg oasys, can u swich between sounds like u do on korg oasys?

    thnx

  • @ThaDeka - sound switching is improved since OASYS. with Seamless Sound Transition, notes sounding from the previous combi/program will hold across the change, complete with all their effects. i talk about this and other new KRONOS improvements in my blog at planetz. follow the link in the video notes.

  • I'm studiing to have a job like yours!

    Where are you working? Awseome!

  • @pablo12co - I work at Korg R&D. Your're right, it is awesome to get to work on such cool products. Good luck with your studies!

  • nice work . keep the vids coming

  • Thanks for sharing this! I wonder how much he got paid for doing this... Loads...

  • WOW what a beautiful sound. THUMBS UP.

  • what part of it did you work on???

  • @imakingprawnok - our team does the embedded software architecture design and implementation.
