  • Does anyone have lyrics or a link to lyrics? I'm a huge patter song enthusiast, so that would be greatly appreciated :)

  • Danny Kaye played the neurotic hypochondriac to perfection. Love these gibberish songs also.

  • I'd like to see a modern day actor pull this off. Danny Kaye was a legend.

  • He was one of the most entertaining people ever.

  • danny kaye / groucho marx = good times

  • Oh Danny Kaye! This is just amazing!

  • Now we know what movies Jim Carey watched.

  • Danny is one of my favorite funny men

  • "Producing more shit on screen, that was there when the movie was made! Was it???"

  • "Producing more shit on screen, that was there when the movie was made!"

  • I like how they don't bother subtitling the only part of the clip that I don't understand. xD

  • It took a few minutes for me to figure it out but Danny had a lot of the same expressions as Ray Bolger, as well as his dancing ability. His role of Hans Christian Anderson in the Fifties is a classic for all children. He teamed with Bing Crosby in White Christmas and in that skit where they dressed up as Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen, they topped anything that Crosby and Hope or Marin and Lewis. He was also great as the old Jewish man who didn't want to see the Nazis march through Skokie.

  • thats an amazing video

  • Him and Donald O'Connor could have been brothers.

  • He was cuter than I remember him being...

  • What an awesome and amazing talent this guy was.

just about everything he ever did was pure gold. unique.

  • what is the saong he's singing called???

  • @AnakinISD it's called "Manic-Depressive Pictures Presents" or sometimes "The Lobby Number" :)

  • Genius. This was the bit--written by his wife, the brilliant Sylvia Fine--that put Kaye on the map. Love him (and her; she wrote pretty much all of his cinematic tongue-twisters) in just about everything!

  • Danny Kaye. Excuberence in motion. So blessed are we to have the brilliant.

  • danny is awesome. the sound quality of this is terrible though.

  • oh my gosh, de-ja-vu.

i think jim carry got his inspiration from danny.a few jokes he does cover from him.

who could dislike danny^^ i can understand it. wonderful times

  • he was the smartest out there...

  • ¿Cuántos años tiene esta grabación en vídeo? El logotipo de la 2 de TVE debe ser de los años ochenta, ¿verdad? Tienes mucho mérito al haberlo subido. Gracias!!!

  • If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought Conan O'Brien and Martin Short were Danny Kaye's long, lost sons.

  • GENIUS

  • see where Conan O'Brien gets it..lmao!

  • I think Danny is my favorite comedian. XD I don't think there ever will be anyone like him.

  • haha so true coyclown

  • so much talent

  • He has worn that pinky ring on his right hand in all his movies...

  • He has worn that pinky ring on his right hand for ever!! He's got it on most to all of his movies.

  • Love this scene. I don't think anyone has even come close to his talent with 'words', facial expressions and body language. Thanks for sharing.

  • WE MISS YOU TOO MUCH DANNY!

  • does anyone know where i could get the script for this scene?

  • Sylvia Fine (Mrs. Danny Kaye) wrote this specialty number for him, officially known as "The Lobby Number"- he later recorded it for Decca records as well. The ending of it (on record) goes like this-

"...and here we are, back in Fresno, California. And this is where you came in. But do not fret, my friend....

(singing) This is a picture that ends in the middle, for those the benefit of those who came in, in the middle....

    THIS...this is THE END!!!"

  • Love Danny Kaye <3

  • I love that guy! He makes me laugh so much! Especially in The Court Jester!

  • Amazing, he truly was one of the greatest entertainers ever.

  • I can see why he is very talented!

  • Awesome! Every generation seems to have a "Jim Carey" but he was one of the best.

  • HE"S CRAAAAAAAZY!!!!!.....i'm down!!!

  • lol he's so talented :D

when he talks fast it's crazy lol, he's funny too. ahha. his impersonations of different kinds of artists are awesome lol XD

  • 1920s thru 1960s Danny Kaye, Al Jolson, Charlie Chaplin, Marx Bros, Phil Silvers, Jerry Lewis, Woody Allen, Bugs Bunny, Goofy, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and many more - all hypertalented nice crazee boys on the planet at the same time. What times they were - and never again ? !

  • This guy has unbelievable talent!

  • What's the name of this song? D:

  • OMG from 1:19-1:27, Danny Kaye sounds exactly like Spongebob

  • Quality.

  • wasn't he just great!

  • yeah just imagine going to a movie today and seeing someone like this who could put on a one mna show who would really want to see the movie at all!

but then if you did this today you would very likely be bundeled off to the lonney bin such is the great sadness of today world!

but Danny did it did'nt he and for that well!-

  • Its wonderful watching these again, just as funny as I remember them!

  • danny kaye was a great

  • 2:20 - "NEVER NEVER NEVER!!" HAHAHAHa. danny kaye cracks me up.

  • the way this guy could manipulate his voice is amazing lol

  • If they ever did a movie on him, Alan Cumming would be perfect to play him.

  • I grew up watching him and was sad at his passing. I wish that he and Betty Hutton would have done a Movie together. all of his dialogue was written for him by Silvia Fine would later become his wife.

  • danny kaye was a very talented man, and u will never see anyone like this ever again xx god bles u xx

  • Oh I LOVE those subtitles!!! teehee...

  • oh the king..

  • Look at the manager's expression at 4:52. Haha!

  • Does anyone know where I can find the lyrics to this song?

  • Whats the name of his song that goes "the goverments responsible for makin' thing impossible"??????

    cant fin that song ANYWHERE.

    Not Even Google Knows.

  • did you ever find the song? I'd like to know too

  • Danny Kaye is Great

  • its astounding how much of the cosmo kramer character was taken from danny kaye's performances by michael richards.

  • wow. ive never realized that before but youre sooo right!

  • Yeah you're absolutely right...same goes for Conan O'Brien.

  • rotfl thakyou. now THAT is how one does creative credits!!

  • Kaye was by far talent!

  • maybe the psycotic maniac depressive cases, have enlarged in the modern era, dued to the huge facilities in the access to info of info, and the enlargement of it (the quantity of info).. and this clip picks up a lot of examples of the contemporary cinema stuff in holywood comercialoized cinema, to express that..

  • very interesting and unique peace of art

  • i agree..

  • @jamesvla , why are you informing me of this?

  • @jamesvla Alrighty then...

  • I didn't know this, but it has everything to do with me

  • Truely genius. Making fun of everything Hollywood in a single scene.

  • He's a kid here.

  • I knew Kaye was a genius but..this just Exploded my frickin' brain..Thanks !..Great post !!:D

  • My favorite is still after the fox!!

  • I admit he does look a lot like Conan and Conan like him. Yet I don't much care for O'Brien.

This is one of the first scenes I've ever seen of Danny Kaye and I just fell in love with his acting right of the spot. Putting the comedy of it aside, you must think how tremendous of an actor this guy must have been. This is the 21st century and it still impresses me MUCH more than any actor today could ever. Bravo, Mr. Kaye, now possibly my favorite actor.

  • watch the court jester...

Then you will really love him..

  • You can see a bit of Kaye in Beakman.

  • ..how can you compare danny to boring conan...i guess what choice do you have conan...or that fcking iteit from mtv as host carson dickly...and he is a "stump"...daaaaaa just a reflection of where our culture is headed....

conan is a bore .... he can't sing or dance...he is a one not johnny...but again what choice do you have....none!!

  • Now I see where Conan O'Brien gets most of his inspiration!

  • No kidding. I grew up watching and loving Danny and later on fell for Conan. Now, I know why!!!

  • @coyclown - obrien doesn't have the class or talent or integrity to scrub Danny Kaye's latrine were he still alive.

  • @FriendofRamblinJack To be fair, he's one of the nicer late night hosts. He handled being fired from NBC pretty well with his last Tonight Show episode.

  • his faces between 2:11 and 2:50 are a total crack up!

  • WHERE on earth did he get so much energy??? LMAO ...OMG! That was so funny!

  • SINGULAR

    INIMITABLE

  • I love Danny Kaye he was such an amazing actor, comedian and singer....buuuut

    Is he lip synching here?

  • I suspect it's merely the fact that the audio is slightly out with the video.

Though it is possible that it's been done like a music video with synching.. but when he speaks it's perfectly in time.. so I doubt it!

  • Well, they usually did record songs in a studio, in benefit of the quality of the sound, but you never know with Danny

  • I love Danny Kaye. I've not really seen enough of him at all. I love the reaction of the rest of the cast in different parts, you can see their genuine amusement at what is happening. "She is beside herself; her favourite position" what a line. Watch the sailors behind as he is doing the collatura soprano section

  • toda!

    thanks for sharing this one

i should watch the whole movie...

i remember the "conga!" part from my childhoood

  • aaah yes. The fantastic Danny Kaye.

    A huge influence on me.

  • I think we can all agree that Danny Kaye was one in a billion and we will never see his like again; and isn't that a shame. We could do it all sing, dance and act; what a talent!

  • i have the 78 the ending is different..and its longer its on both sides

  • He was a brilliant talent and humanitarian. I miss him. Thank you for this special video!

    5+ stars!

  • "So now you know tha name of the film and the director and you really want to see it! BUT NO!"

    awesome!

  • I think every comedian should strive to take notes from the old masters like Kaye. This is the kind of humor I would like to emmulate instead of the old fashion stand up comedy you see all the time.

  • Every entertainer should.

  • Not in a million years will the world ever be lucky enough to have actors like Danny....not in a million years!!!

  • never understimate the world...there might be another danny kaye somewhere

There will always be one danny kaye though

  • Who cares he was amazing... He could have liked sheep and I wouldn't care.

  • I suspect that his wife of 47 yrs and girlfriends (before and after marriage) might have found such a statment overly simplistic... anyway, so what?

  • Thank you for replying and for adding views to this wonderful video!

  • no he was bisexual, famously had a 10 year affair with Olivier that was a massive open secret in hollywood, and sexual orientation hardly diminishes his incredible ability and acheivements

  • it was never confirmed! so we never know if it's true.

  • Fantastic. What a genius.

  • "She's beside herself... her favorite position!"

    *love*

  • thuj Fatmirit a pi kujtohet ceky artist?

  • This dude was crazier than Robin Williams and Jim Carey put together.

  • first movie clip i ever memorized as a kid and it was my favorite movie growing up. Danny Kaye was brilliant. WHY ISN"T THIS ON DVD as well as A SONG IS BORN (another great DK film) "what's that clicking in your throat?" Rest in Peace Danny Kaye..

  • Danny Kaye was one of a kind...a combination of Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, and Fred Astaire... singer, dancer, comedian, with a crazy streak and a ton of talent. He spoke fluent gibberish.

  • I remember reading a bio on Kaye where he once said he was almost sorry the Lobby Number came so early in his career as he could never come up with anything as great.

  • The guy was a tongue twister extraordinaire, a great actor, physical performer and comedian; and all without my ever suspecting at the time he was anything other than himself; Danny Kaye. He made it seem effortless.

  • Haha, this is hysterical!!!!! I love Danny Kaye <3!

  • Danny Kaye is the only one I can forgive for even saying Bolivian and Conga in the same sentence XD

  • "I've got that OYEYEYEYEYEOOOOLD" god that was funny.

I hate the beginning of movies as well, there is just way too many "In Association With"'s

  • I love Danny and it is about time Hollywood makes a movie about him

  • does anyone know if Danny did the voice for woody the woodpecker, or was it someone else?

  • No, Mel Blanc origninated the voice, then Ben Hardaway, then Gracie Lantz (Grace Stafford) (Thank you Widipedia)

  • It should b clear that Danny KAye COULD have done it. I loved him in the 70's _I think he was underrated, and 'misused' he had a good voice, and 'ear'. A 'one man band' on his own :)

  • wow

  • this is my absolutely favorite song!by him! I laughed so hard when i first saw him do this one

  • One of a kind, Danny influenced me very much he was so creative an talented

  • Did any one else have the Danny Kaye records: Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm brothers Fairy Tales Where he was all crazy?

  • Que marvioso...ole!

  • Wow! I'm an actress & I greatly admire DK... he makes me wanna dance when I see him. I wish I was only 6 years old, or perhaps 12, to want to emulate him & become a greater entertainer! :)

love his sense of humour and his voice range...

  • First Danny Kaye movie i ever saw <3

  • What ever happened to the good old days like these? *sighs* This was real talent!

  • The Danny Kaye of this era is Jim Carrey, he can do anything include a dramatic play. For me Danny was the best of 20 century.

  • Danny Kaye could dance and sing! I have never seen Jim Carrey do either!

  • Actually, Jim Carrey sang and danced in "Mask" and danced VERY well in "Once Bitten"

  • Yes and he sings "Your a mean one Mister Grinch", that one goes down in my list of ten favorite movie songs, and he sang "I am the Walrus" and "Dont you want somebody to love"

  • Sorry, but when it comes to the raw talent, versatile excellence, and watchability as Danny Kaye, Jim Carrey couldn't even shine Danny's shoes. Jim Carrey's a class clownish mugger, nothing more, imho. No depth, no talent other than making faces. Danny could mug with the best of them, but he was more than that. And the sheer range of each aspect of his talent was mind-boggling. A man with many personal demons and a dark side, his legacy was his talent, humanitarianism, and philanthropy.

  • I would like to see Matt Damon or one of our modern "stars" try something like this.

  • That kind of artist born one time in the history

    and never again.

  • a masterful delivery and unique material

  • The subtitles are the best part -- the poor translators obviously had no idea what to do with all those puns and internal rhymes. (I assume this is a Sylvia Fein Kaye song.)

  • It's partly a Sylvia Fine song... the song is a Sylvia Fine & Max Liebman song.

  • Anyone know where I can find footage of Danny's classic "Draft Board" scatting routine -- the uncensored version, including the "turn your head and cough" bit?

  • classic

  • Danny Kaye was one of the most talented performers ever. He could do it all, even rap!

  • so correct... I remember watching this film and thinking "I have discovered a great hidden gem of my grandparent's era". This was about 15 years ago. I rushed to get my grandfather and ask him if this was what every movie was like in the 40's and 50's.

Grandpa said "Oh no. That's Danny Kaye, one of the best. Didn't make them this good without him"

I was so dissappointed I hadn't discovered the guy, but still so glad he made his mark. If Jim Carrey could sing and dance...

  • favorite movie of all time

:-) memorized it when i was a kid....

  • Magnus Sheving from 'Lazytown' looks like his double! But, with better pecs and tush! (*"I wonder if anyone he was with moved to iceland?"*)

  • This was one of my favorite movies growing up. No one was better than Danny Kaye! I memorized this entire scene word for word 15 years ago...I just quoted the whole thing as I watched it, (my cat stared at me as if I was insane LOL!) Danny Kaye rules!

Did you all notice his flubbed line in the 'Oh, father!' scene? He said, "Cowboy Dan could not believe his ears," instead of, "Her father could not believe his ears,"! She had just told her father that 'bar none' line, not Cowboy Dan! ;)

  • "oooooh father! You must let me marry cowboy Dan!!!!" ahahaha! I LOVE Danny Kaye! Thanks a lot for posting this video ^_^

  • Danny Kaye is amazing, i wish there wasn't subtitles on here though!

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some old trading cards of famous people: Danny Kaye, Lord Baden-Powell of the scout movement, Winston Churchill, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Chaplin, Yuri Gagarin, Walt Disney....

  • LOL... Conga*whap* - Conga*whap* - Conga*whap*... ROFL!!!

  • I have this movie and it is awesome! This is my favorite part of the film. I saw it as a child and fell in love with Danny Kaye!

  • I have to see this whole movie now --- You gotta love his conga dancing! (lol)

  • this is fantastic!

  • There ain't nobody like Danny....

  • this is amazing.. i MUST MUST see the movie now!

  • Great movie, Danny Kaye is amazing in everything. He is missed by the world. He was an amazing person on screen and off

  • Thanks for this! I love this video! Would you mind posting the end song with him and Dina Shore? Thanks again.

  • pure genius

  • ...he's like, danny kaye-ing it!!

  • fantastic

  • man, this guy has so much energy!

    i love Danny Kaye!:)
