Love how Dan comes home with a bucket of chicken..with no lid and no bag abd grabs a beer and sits in his favorite chair..cool, calm, and collected like he did not just beat down Fisher..gotta love brother-in-laws :)
That's what I loved about Dan. lol He bickered with Jackie and didn't hide that he didn't liked when she was eating there and was over there all the time but she was still Roseanne's sister and theirs no way in hell he would let a man get away with doing that to Jackie. He was a great brother in law and he defended her when he truly had to. <3
All the males I know are the same way as Dan in this episode. We have a rule where if a guy hits a woman, we kick their ass. If we can't, we find either (a) a guy big enough to kick their ass or (b) enough ppl to kick their ass.
I wish people would remember, no matter their politics or personal views of Roseanne the celebrity, that Roseanne, the artist, contributed a flat out masterpiece with this show!!!!! She really took the sitcom to a new level: For once she showcased normal, everyday Americans instead of sugarcoated, glossed over pseudo-families like Cosby and others. I'll always lover her for that!!!!
I had/have the BIGGEST crush on Dan. He portrayed the type of man I want as my husband and I know I've found the real life version! We marry in a month!
This is by far one of the best episode in the entire series. The emotions in this episode still move me. Laurie Metcalf was amazing as Jackie. And you have to love that Dan stood up for his sister-in-law
this is really how it is...I watched my mom beat for all of my childhood and he later came at me with a knife and stabbed a girl in the head as well as me..anyways making excuses and defending the bastard..feeling like its "not his fault" ..I have seen it so much it makes me sick
@laisydaisy30 Damn straight, sure he has his faults,(but who dosen't on this show, especially when you're married to Roseanne, enough said), but he's got it where it counts.
This episode is *SO* good, even though it`s scary as hell (after personal experience)... Best part is when the audience applaudes as Dan took off to kick Fisher`s worthless ***!!!!******!!!! ******** (makes me cry every time) (Part 2 is funny as hell though when Darlene has to bail out her Dad ;)
@2wolfcry Yeah like stephenboy8 said. He probably went to the hospital, and then to the police station to have the charges dropped against Dan, because like he told Jackie in the next ep, the neighbors were the ones that called the cops on Dan, not him.
The reaction from the audience when Dan grabs his coat is priceless... some even applauded. I get so chocked up with this episode all the time. I love this show...
The scene where Jackie breaks down and Roseanne holds her gets to me every time. It just goes to show that despite her sarcasm and rudeness, Roseanne was always there when her family needed her.
ROSEANNE IS LIKE THE BEST SHOW IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE HOME JUST COMFERTABLE, NOT SAYING THAT WE LIVE LIKE THAT ITS JUST HOW THE SET IS SET UP AND HOW THE PLOT BUILDS UP LIKE EVERYDAY LIFE FAMILIES GO THROUGH THESE PROBLEMS HARD TIMES
Roseanne gave him the go ahead with that look as her and Jackie walked into the bathroom together,I did this once for a lady friens of mine i beat her husband really good then they bolth presed charges on me and she went right back to him the next day,ill never do it again
This just proves that Dan truly is a wonderful man, husband, father, and brother. I know violence is never the answer, but come on... If I heard some guy was beating up on my sister, or anyone else that I love, I would totally do the same thing. It's like Dan tells DJ in the next episode following this- Hitting people is never ok, hitting women is forbidden, but sometimes it's ok to hit someone who hits someone you love. <3
Wow. Laurie does a great job at portraying an abuse victim. Making excuses for Fisher. Saying it's her fault. I've seen that a million times. I hate it when I see women blame themselves for that shit. And, good for Dan. If that was my sister-in-law, I'd do the same thing.
Wow. Laurie does a great job at portraying an abuse victim. Making excuses for Fisher. Saying it's her fault. I've seen that a million times. I hate it when I see women blame themselves for that shit.
Dan is an awesome guy and it's good to know that there are real guys like him out there who will stick up for you and put jackasses in their place. Whether it was legal or not, whether "violence never solved anything", I think Dan was right in what he did, and guys like Fischer deserve it.
BTW: "Oh my god, you didn't kill him and then go buy chicken, did ya?!" XD I have NO idea why, but that line is just hilarious.
I've seen a lot of shows, seen a lot of great moments on them, but around 5:00 into this video is the #1 on the list of the greatest moments I have EVER seen on TV in my life.
Why do women give into such jerks, giving them sex and their love willingly? Do not give into a man, just because he is so sexy and good looking, as it does not mean that they are a good man.
makes me cry instantly..brings back all the memories from my marriage..i would cover up for my exhusband..stay away from family till my bruises and cuts healed..cover black eyes with concealer..wear long sleeved shirts..i made it through 11 yrs of abuse..omg i was so stupid..just wanted to keep my family together..
@tristechola81 Big bummer. I've known my share of abusive men but hopefully you have realized that you tower over them in intellegence, control and humanity. If not I have a few spare plots in my backyard for the unforgiven... ;-P
@tristechola81 You weren't stupid. It's difficult to get out of situations of abuse, especially when the abuser is someone who is supposed to love you. It's good to know that you made it. Keep your chin up and remain strong. And, please, don't call yourself stupid anymore! I almost cried when Jackie admitted what was going on. It's pretty emotional and well-acted.
omg, the part where Jackie cries, "I don't want anyone to know about it!" and sobs on Roseanne's shirt always gets to me bad. :( Makes me cry everytime. I think that statement alone signifies the main reason why alot of women refuse to tell anyone or get help. It's such a sad episode.
@ebromero2 OH YEAH!!! I wonder why I thought Fischer was familiar...I've heard if somewhere either earlier or later in the series.... hm..... Thanks though.
my whole childhood was spent wathing my mother getting beat...damn jackie is a good actress here and then when she doesnt wanna move out and all that shit making excuses for him....seen is sooooo many times irl
I know he's a fictional character, but with every episode I watch, they more I fall in love with Dan Conner. The amazing thing about this show is that not only is every actor hilarious beyond belief, when they do these serious moments, they can all make you emotional without over-doing it.
i just realised smtg. u just know smtg is SERIOUSly wrong in the family when roseanne doesn't yell. like when rosanne said "darlene, you get outta here. now, darlene". it's so scary when roseanne speaks softly!!
This show was brilliant. So funny with really funny characters, and then it could drop a really serious topic in like this without it seeming hokey or overly didactic. Like reality -- funny and serious side by side.
I also really liked that they showed this happening to a strong woman like Jackie. It's not just something that happens to wimpy passive women. She thought she was in love with Fisher and was so ashamed that this was happening to her she didn't tell anyone.
@abracrow1000 Dan grabbing his coat and I assume he was going to the Lobo, and some audience applauded and some "Oooohed!" if I were there I would like to see the confrontation between Fisher and Dan also
laurie metcalf and john goodman were AMAZING In this episode.
fun fact: laurie metcalft and the guy who plays fisher actually got married right after this season. they've been married for 17 years and have 3 kids in real life.
Laurie pulled this entire scene off so brilliantly. Look at 3:00 when Roseanne pulls up her shirt, and Jackie immediately slumps her shoulders in shame, totally realistic and well done.
@AmoxcillinPsychosis@AmoxcillinPsychosis wow you are reading way too much into my comment i was simply stating the irony i know it is tv... i said "in this ep"
@ashleymarieanneclark you have to respect him for what he did and how he handled it because roseanne was going to tell the cops about jackie but dan interrupted her basically saying no. He did that to let Jackie keep her dignity and not let people know she was a victim (i am in no way meaning to offend victims of abuse)
@quarf53206 I know you aren't and sometimes people no matter how well intentioned treat victims of abuse differently and it makes a lot of people who have delt with abuse feel really bad about themselves.
Unfortunately Ameican men have been subliminally taught to "defend" a womans honor. Even if that means acquiring a criminal record that will prevent them from moving ahead in life. What Fisher did was wrong, but they should have relied on the courts to handle the situation. I suppose that is the hillbilly way of life. "Just punch em' and teach that peckerwood a lesson " *spits tobacco*.
@kramnrublaw I've done jury duty twice; both for crimes against women. I've seen numerous accounts during my study of law in school that show the justice system failing in situations like this. It's not some hillbilly defense, it's the only way to get the point across sometimes. I know of so many cases where judges have let wife-abusers go with barely a slap on the wrist, and also them failing to uphold restraining order requirements.
@aterrorx And I have seen innocent men go to jail for an assult they did not commit. Life isn't fair. I wish men wouldn't put their record and future in jeopardy because tv taught us that we must beat someone up because they hit a woman. It is a hillbilly defense because men with class take the high road. You talk about the justice system not being fair. Did you ever believe that it was? If so then I am sorry you were so sheltered growing up.
Dan was the biggest badass to ever be in a sitcom.

A warrant for his arrest? In 10 minutes? Will writers ever use the correct terminology?!?

Such a great actress Laurie is. You could tell when Jackie came in, something was off in her voice.

@zzzzdreamzzz Well just because he plays a punk on TV doesn't mean he's that way. He could be an incredible person off set.

@AmoxcillinPsychosis @AmoxcillinPsychosis wow you are reading way too much into my comment i was simply stating the irony i know it is tv... i said "in this ep"

Dan is such a great guy.

@ashleymarieanneclark you have to respect him for what he did and how he handled it because roseanne was going to tell the cops about jackie but dan interrupted her basically saying no. He did that to let Jackie keep her dignity and not let people know she was a victim (i am in no way meaning to offend victims of abuse)
quarf53206 11 months ago
@quarf53206 I know you aren't and sometimes people no matter how well intentioned treat victims of abuse differently and it makes a lot of people who have delt with abuse feel really bad about themselves.

Unfortunately Ameican men have been subliminally taught to "defend" a womans honor. Even if that means acquiring a criminal record that will prevent them from moving ahead in life. What Fisher did was wrong, but they should have relied on the courts to handle the situation. I suppose that is the hillbilly way of life. "Just punch em' and teach that peckerwood a lesson " *spits tobacco*.
kramnrublaw 1 year ago
@kramnrublaw I've done jury duty twice; both for crimes against women. I've seen numerous accounts during my study of law in school that show the justice system failing in situations like this. It's not some hillbilly defense, it's the only way to get the point across sometimes. I know of so many cases where judges have let wife-abusers go with barely a slap on the wrist, and also them failing to uphold restraining order requirements.
aterrorx 1 year ago
@aterrorx And I have seen innocent men go to jail for an assult they did not commit. Life isn't fair. I wish men wouldn't put their record and future in jeopardy because tv taught us that we must beat someone up because they hit a woman. It is a hillbilly defense because men with class take the high road. You talk about the justice system not being fair. Did you ever believe that it was? If so then I am sorry you were so sheltered growing up.
kramnrublaw 1 year ago
@kramnrublaw It's a personal choice what men decide to do to defend ANYONE they love, not just women.
aterrorx 1 year ago 2
@aterrorx Doesn't make it any less stupid. Throwing fists around like an ape does nothing. I guess we need apes to make the World go round.
