Sheltie Surprise - Puppy Shetland Sheepdog

We had to put my Sheltie down Monday. She lived to be 15, and I grew up with her. It was very hard. It helps to watch videos of Shelties to bring back memories of the experiences I had with her.

My mom and I use bubble gum :) Just chew it up a bit, and then put some on the tips of their ears. It comes off pretty easily after it's been there a while, and we've never had any problems with other dogs taking it off.

My sheltie has the folded ears naturally, but she's also a mix so that might be a big part of why that is. Love her though!

i had my sweet Dudlee for 8 years before he died suddenly from a siezure i miss him so much he was a oversized male sheltie I said he was a "condo collie" lol

As for the ear tipping thing, my mom always uses bubble gum. Just chew it till it's soft, then roll a little bit between your fingers till it's sticky. Press it on the tip and there you go! It's worked for her for years, and it comes of fairly easily.

I had a sheltie that looked and acted exactly like yours. His name was Tre and he got hit by a pickup. I got him in May 2011 at 5 years old and lost him in September 2011 at 6 years old. I hope he likes heaven.

I have a shelite and his ears are standing up, and I was wondering if you could be so kind making a video of how you cut your dogs ears because they looks so pretty.

I can not find any other videos who shows i properly.

@NannaD1989 Shelties' ears don't need cutting to be formed properly - they just need to be glued down.

You don't CUT your dogs ears. It's illegal in some states (if you are from USA).

Breeders roll up a piece of duct tape (making it a double-sided tape) and stick on the tip of the ear and folds them in half. It'll go for a week or two but it'll come off (because of skin oil) and you have to do it again.

You need to keep doing this for the first 6-8 months of their life, then they'll have cute bent ears forever.

@NannaD1989 Some Shelties ears are naturally folded over. Most if not all show Shelties have the folded ears, and there are a few things you can do for that to happen. It is a process called " Tipping " the ears. Once the puppies go through their first puberty phase, they teeth, and the cartilidge in their ears starts to get stronger, which straightens them out. @NannaD1989 You don´t cut them, you have to go to the vet, he will give you a paste that you put on the tip of the ears. The weight of the paste will pull the ears down, after a while they´ll stay there an paste won´t be required any more. I dont know about shwlties, but on colies the ears should be 2/3 up and the final 1/3 down, take that in mind when correcting the ears ( if you really want to correct them that is, ears full up are also acceptable).

Song you used for this video sounds like a theme song for my sheltie who will turn 4 on the 25th of this month. He has a major sweet tooth and loves bread and butter and toast and jam. His other theme is Van Halen's JUMP with David Lee Roth. My Sheltie just seems to have the ear for the song, because he knows on que without and prompting or training when to JUMP in the air and kick is back legs out. Maybe sometime I video it and post it. Got to love those Shelties/ Collies rule too!. ;)

Aww :) I feel so emotional when I see this, I really want a Sheltie puppy of my own, but my mum won't let me have one, as we already have 7 cats, 1 dog and 2 hamsters :( But my dog is getting old now, she isn't playful and she doesn't like young people (like me) playing with her. You really are lucky to have a Sheltie :)

@sheltiesurprise he was 13 years old. and well he was having diarrhea, vomiting, and overall he just wasn't being himself. He wouldn't walk around much, wouldn't eat. The vet said that he was suffering tremendously. We all felt so bad, wishing that we would of went to the vet sooner.
