Thanks, I had discovered my mistake already. Luckily I have a European bird guide. Great video of beautiful bird. In North America sparrow hawks are American Kestrels. Thus my error.
Try not to make the same mistake again. Most of the names that you in the states have for animals were taken with the first settlers from Europe and in the absence of familiar species the names were applied to animals that wre similar in some way but not always related. Incidently, the bird that you call the bald eagle is called the guillemot over here.
Try not to be so arrogant! The guillemot is not the American Bald eagle rather the closely related White-tailed eagle -- a different species! So you made the same mistake!
I think he was joking mandolin. Glynchandeliers- europeans taxonomers made the same mistakes and many of there common names have stuck too. The french common name for the firecrest is still the 'triple banded wren'. FACT!
Yeah, looks like a male Sparrow hawk to me too. I'm always impressed by the size of prey these birds can take... just wish they were able to kill them before eating them!
yeah this ones a male. Smaller than the female and more orangey on the cheeks and belly lines. And youre right...the female has a visible eye stripe too.
Google "twitch with mitch" for my full wildlife diary.
Yep, looks like a male to me too. I'm always impressed by the size of prey a Sparrowhawk can take... but their lack of ability to kill they're prey and eat it alive always disturbs me!
Sorry folks, this is not a sparrow hawk. It's either a Cooper's or Sharp-Shinned Hawk.

You'll find that not all users of the internet are from North America.
This is a Eurasian Sparrowhawk filmed in NE England.

Well I live next to a chainsaw retailer , so the background sound wasnt very nice.
If the music offends you so much, you'll find a volume control on the bottom right of the youtube screen.
