I love your truck.I have a 95 4x4 and in my opinion dodge trucks are pretty friggin ligit wheeling vehicles. This is coming from a previously hard core chevy man.Cummins!
good thing we had experienced rock crawlers to spot us down. there was no avoiding this trail. oh and many stock vehicles made it down just fine so idk why you're so pissed off.
My buddy's '92 has quick-release front and rear anti-sway bars. Drive to the crawl spot, and drive it home. Does this truck have that, too? Oh, and what axles do these trucks have factory? My buddy and I are increasing the boost right now :D
this truck actually has NO sway bars. i didnt think these 1st gens came with them. maybe the BLM removed them from the truck when they had it? this truck has a dana 70 rear and 60 front, with the stock 3.55 gears.
My dad has a 1993 Dodge Power Ram 3500 Club cab. It's white with Sliver on the rocker panels. It has that Getrag 5 speed (Really easy to drive). It's over 200,000 miles on it and it towed over 18,000 across the country (From Colorado to Pennsylvania) without a upgraded turbo or injectors, everything stock.
wow, thats pretty impressive. my dads was a BLM truck before the 2nd owner purchased it at an auction in colorado. he had the transmission rebuilt but i guess they forgot to put the speedometer sender unit back in, so the speedometer wasnt working for all the years he owned it. so we dont exactly know how many miles is on it, but it reads at only 84,000.
my dad and i do enjoy wheelin in the good 'ol stock Power ram, itl does well on the trails. we actually dont run the stock tire size. we run 235/85 which are only a little bigger than stock. we have all terrains now, but at the time we still had street tires! not the best, but hey, it worked!
its been over a year, so i dont remember if he was in 4-low. and we made sure it wouldnt break so we could get home cuz there was basically no avioding that obstacle. we had a lot of stock vehicals complete that course too including a brand new (at the time) ford expetition, and newer landcruiser/4runner (i forget which one). we did have some experienced rock crawlers there to guide us down all the rocks.
oh and idk if automatic is better or not. im only 15 and barely on my permit, getting my liscence soon. but from what i hear manuals are better for some reason.
Standard is best for this stuff. It can get a little tricky downhill but generally best for the extra lower gear, and then if you're in 4-Low it's that much easier.
I had a 86 short bed ram 4x4 with a 318 and a 4 on the floor and 35's was a awesome truck but the trans was going bad and i couldn't afford a $1,100 rebuild! SOLD! =[
not to uhh, start a fight, but wouldn't a manual transmission be easier in a situation like this? i know when i drove my friends slushbox ram, i was begging for a stick.
hey dodge fan need somwe help. i have a 97 dodge ram love it but the back wheel well starting to rust what is a cheep and good fix for that.have a lot of bills and a kid so can't spend alot of mony any ideas
Are you talking about the chrome rim? If so, then use some "Neverdull on the rusted spots to clean the areas up. It comes in an un painted shiny metal can W/ black letters, & it's about the size of a can of peanuts. That's what I use to keep the rust at bay. It also keeps it from re-appearing. Availble at most auto parts stores. ; )
Pretty cool video, however I don't think that is a 91. My 91 does not have the ram on the hood like this one does. I think they stopped putting them on in 90, but I could be wrong.
Yep. That's some fun stuff right there. I'd like to see an H2 try to do that. LOL. Nothing like doing a little rock crawling in a Dodge Cummins truck.
well, in our group, someone rented a brand new '07 or '08 Ford Explorer (with full coverage!). It had such bad ground clearence but it was 4x4 (no posi though.) I taped that but the video's too long to put on youtube, thats how long it took to get that thing down!
he's had is since 2005, and bought it from a guy who bought it at a BLM auction in Colorado. so it used to belong to the Beurau or Land Managent in Colorado. lot a bumpy roads out there!
does your dad's truck have the intercooled Cummins or the not-intercooled? Because Chrysler Corp. unveiled the intercooled engine for the Cummins in early 1991.
your dad did a difficult daunting task and with a manual transmission, but he did it. Let's hope he don't do it again, but love the Cummins Diesel engine in any Dodge!!!!
verry cool rig.glad to see the ol work truck hitting some trails.

That was great rock crawlin' with that Power Ram. With the stock suspension, steel drum wheels and stock tire size.
That Getrag G360 and 400-ib/ft torque is also great too.

Do the new dodge rams use independent suspension or do they still have the tried and true beam axles?
moth3rfck3r 3 years ago
the 3/4 and 1 tons still use solid axels. i believe the 1/2 tons are now IFS.
camraguy93 3 years ago
Is automatic better for crawling?
Is he in low range?
I never used to dare do this in my british 4x4 incase something gets smashed by a rock etc.
how do u get home should it break?!!
I love these trucks, wish we had em in engand in right handdrive.
Someone near me has a 24 valve cummins dually...looks rather big on our roads!

while this is a good ol' solid axel.

Love to see big trucks wheel! You dad's is even heavier than my 92 W350 SRW.
I like the manual in everything except stop and go on steep climbs.
That cummins just idles almost anywhere!!

nice video, funny how its a utility truck because it makes it weigh a lot more and harder to offroad.

the 2nd owner dropped something on the hood denting it so he replaced it with a black 89 hood with the ram hood ornament.

Or flip on it's side trying with the "less than desireable" suspention system.
