It's their tradition! If you're mad because of that, then shouldn't you also have equal dislike for the Scouts?
Also, regardless of it being used in singular or plural form, it is always drum corps. Always. Search "drum corps spelling" on google, click on the drum corps faq link, scroll down till you see "Usage Note" and you'll see.
