One interesting thing about this scene is the use of color in the costume design. Don's sweater, pants, and shows are all brown, while Cosmo's outfit is the same design in blue.
Is it just me or is the dancing off? Not in the movie I mean but if you watch the dancing closly in this youtube vid the steps are off from the music...still one of the most amazing dance secnes ever though

This always makes me start tapdancing while watching. Love choreography and actors to... and by the way I don't recomand wearing tap shoes in the class... In my case (as you probably guessed) I don't so most of the time nobady can hear me and I can practice all the time. Its also a great thing to do if you're as nervouse as hell
It's amazing to think that you could expect the Hollywood actors to have the ability to sing, to dance and to act. Nowadays it seems almost impossible to expect even one of these talents. At lest we have the classics, always. :)
Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor were certainly great talents. They make it look so easy. Yet Debbie Reynolds said Kelly used to make her practice until her feet bleed. Would any of these current no-talent celebs being willing to do that?
This is so wonderful, I can't get enough! This scene puts me in a good mood no matter what. I have to go now, I'm going to watch it another 3743643 times! X)

@Johnny Contagious----AS a huge fan of Donald O'Connor, I wanted to respond to your comments of 6 mo. ago. A reminder--Donald was much younger than Kelly. When Kelly came to Hollywood in 1940, after Broadway, he was 28. At that time,
Donald was 15. Kelly was at powerful MGM during the height of the movie musical. Donald made some movies at Paramount as a child and then left to go back on stage to help his family. They hadmany hardships in that his father died when he was a baby, his sister was
@faith4094 his sister was killled by a car, one brother died when Donald was a teenager and they other when Donald was 31. He was discovered again by Universal and became a huge teen star. Girls were agog and understandably so. He did some terrific dancing and comedy but Universal wasn't the powerhouse that MGM or some other studios were.Thankfully, he got the chance to showcase his incredible talents when Kelly and Stanley Donen insisted on him for the role of Cosmo.
Bet that old guy is partly thinking "What the hell?!" and partly "God, I wish I could dance like that". Love it when Donald O'Connor just throws the bin in the air for no reason :) oh yeah, and which 2 idiots disliked this??? xxx

Kelly said the number was all Donald and it was brilliant. Donald won the Golden Globe for his performance. He did other big musicals after that but he was still under contract to Universal where he waqs doing the cute Francis films. His showstopping duet with Ethel Merman was sensational and showed what a wo.nderful voice he had.He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after this film.

He did some terrific dancing and comedy but Universal wasn't the powerhouse that MGM or some other studios were.Thankfully, he got the chance to showcase his incredible talents when Kelly and Stanley Donen insisted on him for the role of Cosmo.

there such a beast. I have mad respect for them did you know they ha to do this all in one take no editing back then. If they messed up they had to start back from the beginning, but they where so amazing.

@BigCurlyHair16 haha, that isn't entirely true...they cut together parts, and it was filmed separately from the recording of the audio.
But I totally agree, this is my jam! this is talent for real, not just music that is "catchy"(though it is that too <3)
