Greatest Jam EVER. So sweet from start to finish. Couldn't have been composed and recorded a million times and still wouldn't sound better than it was played on this night.
@jamescnix james: trying looking this up on Deadnet, then apologize to gtz. If you can get your foot out of your mouth. Great version of DS, thanks gd73.
@1999wharfrat - sorry about that - my sincerest apologies - - I love the way they turned on a dime with only 1 drummer - my regrets - sorry... thank you for the kind correction - I appreciate it - on many levels thanks jcn
This was a terrific show. Jerry's guitar work had a real bite to it, but at the same time it was sweet and controlled. Just listen to the feedback tones used around 3:10 - 3:35.
Historical note: I believe that this was the last show with Mickey Hart for more than three years.
Not to be rude, but It's all a matter of taste and personal preference which Dead "jam" is the "best"...After all, there are so MANY to choose from,it's impossible to even hear them all.Let's all GIVE THANKS for the incredible legacy they left us instead of arguing.
Well as far as I know the concert was not released on CD, but the concert was played on sirius radio, however the 'Beautiful Jam' portion from 02-18-1971 Portchester NY that starts at 6:26 can be found on disc 2 track 2 in the five disc box set titled "So Many Roads" which was released in 1999...
I heard an interview with Phil Lesh shortly after Jerry had died and he was talking about this particular show and specifically this jam. He had said that it was his favorite in all the decades they played. I really is a transcendent experience--rare in that the improvisation came together so well and so perfectly for a few moments that they weren't even The Dead anymore...
There certainly is nothing comparable to a Dark Star from 1970 (style-wise) to me and even though this is a month & a half into '71, it's still the 1970 style Dark Star jam in there.....
this is one of the best shows i have ever heard, this part has always given me the chills this even better when you hear it from the begining dark star-wharf rat-dark star w/this in the middle.also as i understand first time for wharf rat live. very nice
