This may make people hate on me and think i'm lying, but Mark Aguirre is the coach for my AAU team. We are the Frisco Celtics and he's a nice guy. Never expects too much and never expects too less. He makes you want to play harder when he coaches.
These guys use to beat the @#$% out of each other and the next guy to that person, when they played, but they all left it on the court like real champions.
The best game Mark played was a summer league game at Chicago State University. He had no limit as to how far he could shoot...3 point...ha, try crossing half court, shooting and simply turning around because he knew the shot was good.
when aguirre was a freshman at depaul, his first game the first shot he took he drove on UCLA's greenwood, consensus pre season player of the year and dunked it in his face! if he had kept the weight off he'd have been even greater...
I have loved Mark for years and had the pleasure of meeting him this weekend, he's kind, gracious and humble...hugged me...wanted to know my name...had NBA press take our pic together...a wonderful experience with a stellar LEGEND
Any DePaul footage for this Westinghouse home-boy? HIs teams were always ranked #1 going into the tournament, but only made the final 4 once as a freshman. Absurd talent & range. And a great post game (at 6' 4") thanks to huge hands and ass. He used to shoot some free throws at DePaul one-handed just for fun - in games.
That guy scored like a freaking machine from anywhere on court. The Mavs back then also had guys like Rolando Blackman (who had a great J), Derek Harper (could fill it up even while running the show), Brad Davis (fear the 'stache) and Roy Tarpley (constant 10/10 threat before he went on the coke). They were pretty much up there with the Lakers in terms of scoring ability, but they never had the D plus there were so many good teams in the West during the 80s.
I always knew there was something I liked about Aguirre...his birthday is the day after mine in the same year.
When the Pistons picked him up I knew they were gonna win the championship. He wound up getting two.
Somebody get the famous one of Aguirre dunking directly over David Greenwood of UCLA in college (Depaul)! In fact, ANYthing of him at Depaul would be appreciated. Aguirre, Terry Cummings, Teddy Grubbs...I know it's old skool but whose got it???
I was at the game in Chicago at the Horizon when DePaul beat UCLA the year after UCLA had upset them as #1 seed in the tournament first round. Probably the loudest game I've attended ever, and he played angry.
