The 1968 version with Leonard Whiting is 10 times better.

This film has been criticized for being weak. For instance, Romeo and Tybalt do not have a duel. Romeo just approaches Tybalt and stabs him. In both the older 1936 film, and the 1968 film, there is a fight between Tybalt and Romeo. This and some other scenes were poorly done in the 1954 film.

@Shikamarugirl7, yes, it's a great contrast to the subsequent fight between Romeo and Tybalt, which everyone understands from the beginning is really meant to be to the death.
