  • Tears to my eyes as well...

Thanks for sharing this! I was looking for 'music inspiration' as I recently did a slight rewrite of the original lyrics, which I am planning to record soon. This video helped a lot! Thank you!

    :)

  • I loved this song when I was little; and

my Dad used to sing it for me, too. This

    was lovely.

I thought of it again when looking over the tracklist for the new Queen/Paul Rodgers cd and one of their new songs is called All through the Night. I'm sure it's very different! LOL

  • :)

I am actually a little surprised to find it as a lullaby. I know it as quite a dramatic though beautiful sing in which someone is waking by the side of their lover, who is dying — and actually dies within the scope of the song. But I guess it works very well as a lullaby, whichever was the original intention.

    :)

  • Oh yeah, if you want to hear it, I can email it to you if you are interested...or it is on my facebook page.

  • Your version of this song inspired me so much, I recorded to it! Don't worry, I am not a professional and will not be selling this or anything. I wanted to thank you so much for posting on youtube. You are gifted and thank you for sharing said gifts as gifts.--

  • Nice. I just checked iTunes...there are several versions including a Welsh Choir!

  • That's wonderful - an excellent rendition of a beautiful song.

  • I first heard this song on the video "A Childs Christmas in Wales" is our favorite christmas show, my daughter loves your playing, she was given a guitar 3 years ago, and this is the first time she wanted to learn, because of your playing her favorite song, great job, we both love it

  • "Always on Christmas night there was music. An uncle played the fiddle, a cousin sang "Cherry Ripe," and another uncle sang "Drake's Drum." It was very warm in the little house. Auntie Hannah, who had got on to the parsnip wine, sang a song about Bleeding Hearts and Death, and then another in which she said her heart was like a Bird's Nest; and then everybody laughed again; and then I went to bed. ...Dylan Thomas

  • you know the poem, I love this one from Dylan Thomas and movie does it justice and the song is such a perfect ending, thank you again for another great memory for Christmas

  • That's really lovely, it literally brought a tear to my eye. And elicited my first YouTube comment.

  • Well, thank you. That is quite a complement.

  • Can you please tell me if this song has been sung by a choir? I have memories of this song, but sung in Welsh by a choir...any help? Thank you! Absolutely beautiful!!!!

  • Sorry, I can't say if it has or has not been sung by a choir. I know it from a vinyl LP titled "Peter Paul and Mommy" by Peter Paul and Mary that I purchased for my daughter some time in 1974-1975.

  • Very well played, my father loves this song and we searched it up du to the smoothness of it.

    congrats and kudos

  • Thanks for the Kudos!

  • ur vid helped me study for choir!!! thanks!!

  • The guitar is a Taylor GC-Custom with Phosphor Bronze Elixir Light Strings.

  • That is so beautiful! :D You have quite a talent, but then that's to be expected since by the sound of it, and since u say in the mid 70s u've played guitar for quite some time. I can't stop listening to it. hehe.
