@Okiimiru I am currently profitable with my current setup. My fish are Elassoma gilberti and a solid gold platinum strain of guppies and my plants are about a dozen species, mostly red and rare plants. I use kitty litter ($4 at Walmart) for the substrate for the plants and $30 four foot long T8 lights from Home Depot. I grow grindal worms to feed the fish; they eat one bag of Kibble 'N Bits a year. I also grow microworms for the fry; they eat one container of oatmeal ($2) every half year.
@Okiimiru If you want, I could help you go over your numbers to make your own setup more profitable. I bet the biggest unnecessary costs are all those filters (central fluidized bed would fix that), the heaters, and not earning enough profit from selling each individual low cost fish. It would also help if you grew plants. They earn a lot.
Sorry to hear about your luck selling. Easily accessible or common fish are more for hobby breeding with little chance of ever making any money off of them. Discus, coral, flowerhorns, etc are better bets in creating a sustainable income.
hey where did you get the bubbler with the big sponge around it??what is it call??im doing a bare tank for breeding and i want those so that good bacteria can have a great place to thrive upon.
Latest update: Completely redoing the tank layout. Stopped trying to breed anything (still happens but I don't save the eggs). Now I'm going more for a recreational showcase room. On a tight budget (other bills and stuff) but making do with what I can get by with. Will post another video with new layout, probably this fall.
@solwebdude it looks like you did the insulation, electrical, and stands the right way to turn a profit - the filtration, heating, and water changes look like a little bit of a pain, unless i missed something -- what did you in? lack of time? electric bills? i'd love to do something similar some day, but i want it to turn a profit! thanks,
awesome wish i had the money to do something on that scale. have you ever thought of maybe using large storage containers as breeding tanks? I am thinking about using some and maybe cutting a viewing panel and silicone some glass in.
How much did each tank cost? How many did you buy (total cost?)? I have enough trouble affording my 6 gallon one! It was like $100 acrylic that came with a filter and I needed to get so much extra stuff!
do u sell them or some thing cuz it dosunt look all that good :( i have 2 fish tanks and its just amazing so do you do sell them or not . thats a huge envesment
wow that was a good looking fish room about the best i have seen so far on youtube hey so are you still operating your room? and i looked at your website its really nice

Just an update. I'm currently scaling back the number of tanks as financials have forced the issue. I plan to just have a few tanks and toy around with breeding different fish for now. Someday I have plans to expand the room even further, but that may be a year or 2 down the road. Just wish the economy would do something..
@taedom Easier to change, add on, or move around if needed. And most fires are caused when people nail or screw into wiring in the wall. Cosmetically it's just a fish room.
grt vid i wish i culd do something like but dont have the money lol plus right now i only have two tanks and a bumch of smaller tanks i wish i could setup but dont have any lfs or anything lol
great vid. never seen someone work so fast, you must be part omish lol. looks like angels are the majority of your business. def one of the best fish to breed for profit
hi, thanks for sharing your video. i noticed you had a tank with plants in it above your tank at 6.44 is that to help with filtration... if so, how does it work and what type of plants would u recomend... i suppose low light plants ? and i was curious , you mentioned that u use a python to do your water changes. whats a python ? thanks
When...If...I endeavor to make a fishroom of this magnitude, each tank will have to be equipped so I can just open a valve and change 40% of the water. Otherwise, forget it!
@solwebdude I got a python too and I get frustrated with it because it takes it nearly 45min to siphon my 125gal down to about 30%. I keep the faucet going full blast too. I'm talking about a system where you run around turning ball valves and the tanks water just drops and you refill via the same plumbing, would be sexy.
great job wish i had the space and money 2 do something like that. this time next year hoping 2 b in the middle of building a fish house myslf in the garage with the insulation and all but it would b quarter the size of that 5/5
amazing, really cool set up. it's great to see a breeder who has such well presented tanks, rather than just bare bottom fry factories. if you were UK based i'd definitely be sourcing my fish from you
u should of made ur own filtration system all linked up to one instead of using one filter per tank. too much electricity and money. still a very nice set up though.
Central filtration requires drilling the tanks, something you cannot do on shatterproof glass very easily. Also disease spreads quickly if you ever have that issue.
@solwebdude Doesn't have to be that way if you use some inline UVC-beaming filters. They kill pretty much any and all disease out of the chain if you have to. Just be very sure where in line you put the UVC, because of course you don't want to kill all microbal life out of your tanks. I use ozone myself, it's really good.
wish i had the money to do something like this! looks great!

You did a great job, so this is not criticism. These are just helpful suggestions.
Things I would have done differently:
Instead of one waterfall filter for each tank, centralized fluidized bed filters for multiple tanks.
Grow live plants in each tank, sell plants on aquabid
Breed expensive strains of fish. More money per fish means a higher ROI.
Focused on fish that don't need heaters. Tropical fish are inherently expensive. Native and coldwater fish skip the cost of heaters.

The plants alone pay for all of the maintenance and upkeep costs and make everything profitable.

2 x 4 stands, glued with waterproof glue and long sturdy screws. Use foamboard under the tank to help for uneveness of frame plus helps insulate.

did you make your stands yourself?? and when is your website going to be ready??

@cutecuda Google "Breeding Angelfish".
All kinds of methods but buy a few, feed them and eventually they will breed. The trick is hatching the eggs and raising the fry.
