I love this. Her love for the music SHOWS. It brings a smile to my face. This is real jazz. Jazz is about what the artist conveys. And Uehara is very well known for being a very happy energetic performer. I respect her for following through with what she loves. Much respect.
Im seeing dumb ass ignorant comments here. I know its just what happens on YouTube. I think its great that everyone has the opportunity to discover amazing stuff like this but there are always those few assholes who think they know what they are talking about and that their opinion is 'correct'. She is up there with the greats; Chick Korea, Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson... and people talk about her as if she's a child.
Ok now I understood it is forbidden here to be suspicious about this young and cute (is it actually the problem ?) pianist. I do apologize for that. Then, I let you being hypnotized by her face and her technical skills, and go to see real musicians. If you want names do not hesitate... But I think you already know them.
@DangerDancer69 Forget the idiots who try to take her down a peg. They will have no lasting impact, but she will. People that can hear greatness will hear it-let the haters stew in their own bitter troll juices. She is one of the finest living improvisers I've heard.
Sorry but I don't believe in her "innoncence". Nevertheless, may be you're right, she might be like a child : a kind of gifted child giving a prodigious technical performance in a broadcast such as "Got Talent"...
I really feel uncomfortable with it... This is not music for me.
@olibo64 you say," Jazz is not a demo, its not a way to tell us. Im so good a player" Well just so YOU know. performing with a piano is about showing people how good you are, reguardless of what style you are playing. You sound like a jealous child who JUST started learning Jazz and wants to throw the little bit of information they were taught out at anyone whos better than them. A real musician would see the true musicianship and love for music in this performance.
I am sorry. It is just my opinion : she is a (extraordinary) mechanical player. I can see emotion on her face but not in her game. You don't agree with this point of view, it's your choice and I do respect that.
Just one thing : I am certainly NOT jealous ! :-))) As I am also not jealous of Chick Corea, MCoy Tyner, Petrucciani (RIP) etc. that I saw in concert and are Real Jazz pianists.
For example, if you want a young, original and good piano player try Shai Maestro.
@olibo64 I agree, Shai Maestro is incredible. Also agreed she's not the best (Jazz) pianist. Also understand she that this is a CRAZYYYY tempo for this song, and at its norm, is nothing to criticize. I think she was just over doing it a bit much here as this was my first time hearing this recording. But in general, I think she is definitely in the top ratings of todays pianists... Ability wise. She definitely know how to rock out though.
De la folie. Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner... Tout concentré avec une énergie, un sens du rythme, une virtuosité, et un charme bien sûr époustouflants...!
