  • @RAWsomesauce Wow, that's good to hear!

  • The mangos look good to me!

  • Great recipe to share. Thanks wantanmien

  • i love mango and because im not the biggest fan of spinach, i blend just as u have and give it a squeez of line and yummo!! great job and thank u!

  • leave the peel on the mango, its tasty and has most of the nutrition!!!

    good job!

  • Does Vegetarian more easy to gain weight?

  • Thanks Karen 4 letting me know I did't read previous comments.I wanna know how many glass of this Green smothie we can drink in a day or in a week. Second any side effect 4 drinking too much

  • This Mango is probably not ripe, but there r some forms of Mangos which are green and Ripe

  • @synergy9001 It is ripe. We have had this discussion before (further back). In fact it is perfectly ripe : )

  • I love green smoothies

  • May I pour a little water directly to the blender ?..., it looks very tick. Thank you for the help :)

  • I have a plain blender (not a vita mixer) I want one though. I have had success in making these in my cheap blender. I do have to take the lid off get a wooden spoon to sort of push down while being careful not to touch the blade. Luckily I have had no explosion of juice coming back out of the blender. We shall see how long this cheap blender lasts. I'm sure I will burn it up .....

  • I love green smoothies! I am excited to try this combo!

  • You're "lovely".

  • anyone else here evr had an allergic reaction to mango? like extreme swelling of the face?? I DID

  • Thanks for the video...I am starting a green smoothie fast tomorrow and will be watching videos tonight for inspiration. I am documenting on my blog...hopefully I can find some people to join me. I've never tried one with mangoes...will definitely be trying this.

  • I love green smoothie! I try to drink this everyday. :P This is my lovely recipes -

3-4 handful of spinach, 1 handful of kale

    1/2 of banana

    5-6 little pieces of mangoes

    plenty of berries.

    and water..

    Then blend with "Magic Bullet"

  • Hey Karen, you are absolutely adorable! =)

  • can u still get the nutrients if it is turned into a liquid? or do you get less cause it passes through you faster if you turn your solids into liquids?

  • In some cases it becomes more bio-available *because* of the blending, but I recommend that people have a combination of whole, juiced and blended foods.

  • It's actually better since your body doesn't have to digest it absorbs the nutrients almost immediately

  • I've had 10 mango trees in my yard for 25 years, and I've never seen a green mango that was ripe. You can tell by the way the knife was cutting it that it wasn't ripe. Nor would it taste good.

  • This mango was perfect and lovely I can assure you. Not all mangoes change colour completely. It's the inside that matters and this one was awesome.

  • I don't see need to diminish the effort she is putting into explaining how to make a green smoothie by questioning whether the mango is ripe or not. I am from Ecuador and grew up eating mangoes. The mango she used is a Colombian variety and it is ripe! Look at the beautiful color and the great condition of the "pulpa".

  • Thank you!

  • That is the biggest mango I've ever seen. And I use to live in a tropical country.

  • Great video! I have tried telling the general public about raw food but they just look at me if i was crazy. I must admit this is very hard to assimilate to. Once a month I will still indulge in organic eggs, prime rib, chicken.

  • im in love as well.....

  • Mangos are in the same group, acidic wise, as lemons apples and pineapples.

they may be acidic but in the boy they alkalize.

I think the best smoothie to try is with bananas and spinach you can hardly taste the spinach.

I didn't want to try them at first but now I have at least two large ones a day.

  • You said that this drink is alkalizing. Isn't mango acidic? I've had problems with acidic fruits in the past but if I'm going more raw will that make the difference? Thanks for all the great videos! <3

  • What kind of problems? Mangoes are alkaline forming, so are other acid fruits such as lemons, oranges, pineapple, etc. Cranberries, prunes, plums, green bananas (unripe), and blueberries are acid forming. That's not to say avoid them, just maintain a proper balance.

  • im in love

  • Karen herself probably "tastes like a smoothie".... LOL...

  • I think Karen is a cute little smoothie!

  • @porkyo123 you and ten gazillion others !

  • My green smoothie is: Handful of spinach, 1 turnip, 1 onion, 1 clove of garlic, 1 cup water and a dash of cinnamon. :)

  • Very fine : )

  • Can I use parsley or cilantro in my green smoothie?

  • Yes absolutely. It's *lovely*!

  • Thanks Karen...Is there a certain amount I should or should not use, or can I just use any amount in proportion to the other greens?...Also, I never see garlic being used in smoothies...Is that a no no?

  • As it is all food, it doesn't matter on proportions, although 50/50 is a good start. What matters is that you like the taste and therefore drink it, and the more green, the better. Garlic... you're getting more into soup territory with that really - NOT great with fruit : )

  • I'm glad you said that because I prefer to just guesstimate the quantities of ingredients that I use in my smoothies...The blender that I'm currently using is a small one and I tend to make a full jug and drink it all, about 3 big glassfuls in all...Is that ok to do?...I'm usually hungry whenever I drink my smoothies as I treat them as a meal.

  • the taste is much improved by adding an avacado and a little stevia

  • Delicious! The smoothie isnt bad either :)

  • Great video. Have you incorporated Kale into your smoothies?

I splurged and picked up the Vita Mix 5200 Professional series a few weeks ago and have been making green smoothies non-stop. I've been playing around with a few different greens combinations and right now my favorite is a Kale, Spinach, Carrot and apple mixture. Tastes delicious. The carrot really does a great job at offsetting the bitterness of the kale.

  • It's real enough : ) But meet you back here tomorrow and tell me I'm wrong!!

  • The smile at the end doesnt look convincing. These things will be the ultimate in healthy food but surely they taste abysmal. We'll see!....I'm going to try one tomorrow.

  • Lol. Good luck! I'm going to try one, too.

  • So THAT'S how to chop up a mango quickly!!! I have been butchering mine for years!

  • @benballgrab lol me too. :P

  • mix fruits only with leafy vegetables ?

  • whoa..hubba hubba. I'm in love.

  • she's VERY cute :)

  • She does look healthy ;-)

I love smoothies, the taste good and are good for you. I don't think I'ld like the spinage though :S I prefer fruits over vegetables in my smoothies.

  • Honestly, you have to move beyond the colour and try it - I promise you will barely taste the spinach and you'll be amazed how much you love it!

  • Would you make comment about drink green smoothies with ice in the morning ? any pro and con?

    Thanks

  • Completely personal preference I would say.

  • if you're not convinced by the raw food lifestyle, just think that this girl is actually a woman and she is 37!!!

  • 37? She could totally pass for a teenager.

  • I know!! I was really surprised too! She looks like 21

  • what a woman, I don`t ask more to nature.

  • this girl is beautiful... AND she eats healthily. what a catch

  • hello..I have rheumatoid artheritis and i know some foods can cause much more imflammation in my joints if i eat them..can you give me a recipe for a veggie/fruit smoothie that wont cause more imflammation for me..thank you

  • no, it will help a lot

  • Thanks for your videos they're great. Anyone happen to know where I can get kale in Australia? Bloody hard to believe its readily available in the US & UK but so hard to get here :( What else could I use as a suitable alternative? I tried to make a broccoli smoothie once, but the flavor is too strong. Cheers

  • lettuce oughta do..

  • Can you get Collard greens in Australia?

  • juist use spinach

  • Vita-Mix

  • What type of blender are you using?

  • Hi karen I have been watching you for about three months and just wondering if I could ever do Raw food. And by that I mean a green smoothie. I have been having one for lunch every day for three days and I love it. I also have fruit smoothie for breeky and I have just orderd a dehydrator. Im hoping to be about 60% raw with still healty food for the remaining 40% but a little salmon ect. Thanx for the inseration

    Elesha

  • I have an important question. I think its important to get plenty of protein as well (especially with weight lifting etc). how do you feel about adding some eggs to a smoothie? I was thinking 3 or 4 egg whites and one yolk? or does that create a combining problem (about which I know nothing). thank you!! you rock : )

  • I think it's up to you and you have to see how you feel. I don't eat raw eggs and don't feel the need to (I do lift weights) - you don't have to eat animal produce to have enough protein - but if you want to I would recommend bee pollen - super-high in protein and contains just about everythng else also.

  • thank you : )

  • Google "The Incredible, Edible Egg Yolk" and check out the following video from runningraw:

    watch?v=ae-dlHOmwk4

Regarding the video, that's all you need to make a good green smoothie? I made my first one today and it was pretty crappy, lol. I'll post a vid of that in a day or two.

What maximum wattage is your blender? By the way, I love the British accent. Very sexy.

  • this is an amazing drink, and really to start a new day. it doesn´t taste like you think. and starting my day with this GREEN smoothie just give me such i KICK... really good. i like to use 1 green apple and 1 orange, and ofcause all the spinach. then some water, to make it juicy. LOOVE it.

  • love di shirt, eat raw and live long.... Bless up for guiding the people into a healthy holistisc lifestyle, this is what will save the people...in mind body and soul...Rastafari seh so...Live Love Life

  • No shame to the game: I got a crush on this lady. Oh yeah, also a very good video; she made the process look simple and easy, something that anybody could do.

  • Thank you very much for these videos.

Can the smoothie be stored in the fridge for a few hours?

I spent some time on your website and found in excellent. Let us know when you're able to do one-to-one coaching again.

  • In Victoria Boutenko's book, Green For Life, she suggests to make a quart in the morning, or more and drink throughout the day.

So I guess the answer to your question is 'yes'.

I drink them the same day, if I make too much, but I prefer to make fresh everytime.

  • I found it surprisingly tasty, now that I've been on green smoothies for a month, to take a massive amount of spinach, and just blend it with the juice of one lemon and water. Baby spinach has little taste. It smells like fresh grass (good) and tastes like lemon and grass. Which is good.

  • It tastes FAB! I don't do nasty and bitter! You can barely taste the green...

  • Really? Okay :) I'm trying this tomorrow for breakfast :D.. you've really made me interested in eating raw! I'm starting tomorrow. I'm not looking to lose any weight though (maybe gain some) but I really need to make an investment in my health :)

  • okay i felt totally sick this morning and just the thought of vegetables made me quezy lol crap.. I had a falafel loaded with veggies :| healthy but not raw.. and a hot dog lmfao.. but i went to the store and got some fruit so I'll do a smoothie for breakfast tomorrow :)

  • Does it actually taste good? I'm afraid its gonna taste nasty and bitter.

  • One can add all sorts of fruit for variety and flavour. We use guavas, pineapples, kiwi fruit, musk melon, blueberries - you name it. The greens are carrot tops, beetroot leaves, spinach(of course!), kale, rape and dandelion leaves (all of which we grow in our garden). If I don't have a green smoothies once I day my body feels deprived (and depraved!) GREEN SMOOTHIES RULE, OKAY!

  • Love this stuff...alot of people look at me crazy when I walk around with some kind of "GREEN DRINK" in my hand..lol

  • Great Vid

  • yummy this tastes good, I just made one. I want to try to add hemp seeds and dolse soon.

  • People should avoid eating non=local foods. if you don`t leave in a tropic environment you need not to eat mangoes pineapples or any tropical fruit.Eat what is locally grown and in the area of 200 km from your place of living. That way you will get the maximum nutritional benefits of any fruit or vegetable.

Also, don`t eat too much tomato, potato or zuccini since they leach calcium from the bones and cause arthritis over time.

  • Good advice...but only if you actually live in that environment. If you work in an office building all day with a/c, then go home in your a/c car, then into your a/c home...you are actually living in a temperate climate.

  • Thanks Karen! I really appreciate your help! :-)

  • KAREN: in one of your videos you said you have been your lightest weight eating raw food and your heaviest weight eating raw food. What is best to avoid on the Raw Diet. I am a severe cooked starch addict avoiding raw dairy. :-) Are honey pig-outs OK? 2 glasses O' Red Raw Wine??

  • Hi.. by far not enough room here to answer this question. At the end of the day it will always come down to calories in vs calories out whether we are cooked or raw. Eating high fat and high sugar even when raw causes same weight issues if you are not burning them off. And eating after 7pm is also a big no-no if you are trying to lose weight. Alcohol can taste nice but does the body no favours whatsoever. Better to eat the grapes! Good luck!

  • i think she's absolutely gorgeous ^.^

  • I concur :D

  • Is mango skin tough to digest? I always see people use only the flesh in their green smoothies.

  • Some people eat it, I never have; it doesn't appeal to me, and of course, never non-organic.

  • Can all spinach be eaten raw?? ie: big leaves as well as salad spinach?? Also in Malta there is no organic spinach available! Is non organic ok raw? Thank You

    Great videos btw!!! very informative

  • Yes all spinach can be eaten raw. Organic is preferable but remember with all non-organic you are eating chemicals. Try growing your own?

  • Thank You for your reply :) I didn't know spinach could be grown at home. I only have a small back garden.

  • try square foot gardening.

  • I can't believe this woman is 73. It really is amazing.

  • What are you talking about?!

  • Hi Karen - Recently I've made some baby steps toward a raw diet but read a book that put me off somewhat called "Raw Spirit: What the Raw Food Advocates Don't Preach by Matthew Monarch" Essentially, he made it sound as if raw food would so finely tune the body that you'd be super-reactive to pollutants or non-raw foods. Since I have allergies and saw raw food as a way to make me less reactive and more strong immune-wise, this has given me second thoughts. Just wanted to get your POV. Thanks.

  • is there an answer on this? I'd like to know too.

  • lol

  • I have only been aware of eating raw for about 2 years now. Why? Why is this not more common knowledge? I don't mean to sound stupid but I really didn't know. Now I am highly not happy about it. All the research I have done tells me that we are all being manipulated to eat cooked poisonous food. I look at my kids and want to cry because I basically poisoned them. Everyone who I tell thinks I am on crack. This is very disturbing to me. My family is going raw immediately.

  • Good question! There's a fair few theories about this, but the bottom line is - it's a numbers game. Congratulations on bringing a few more to the party!

  • no way you're 35... you look 20!

  • u are so hot

  • its a good basic base to use, fruit and greens. i prefer to use banana and kale. i also add hemp and avocado for fat and protein with herbal tea as my base. basically this is my staple diet, varying the fruit / greens.

then i workout and post workout i blend banana, celery, coconut water, water, creatine, glutamine, hemp leaf / greens, maca. this is quite expensive which is why i limit to one a day.

  • Thanks for sharing the miracle of the Green Smoothie! They have changed my life for the best:)

  • You should spike that with:

    Green powder

    Red powder

    Vitamin C powder

  • Gary,

    Your the best!!!

  • I'll have to get into green smoothies...I never could handle the taste! I'll give it a shot for breakfast. We have mangoes, oranges, bananas, spinach, frozen cherries....I'll come up with something (hopefully) tasty :) Thanks Karen!

  • is it true that you shouldn't mix fruit with vegies? can you explain if this is true or false and why?

  • I don't consider it a black or white yes or no. In some whole food combinations it naturally doesn't seem appealing (carrots and passion fruit anyone?) but in juices and smoothies you can get away with a lot more. But in this case we are talking greens, and they are quite different to "vegetables" and greens are a neutral food in that they go with everything. Just look at any fruit that grows on the planet, always grows with leaves attached... For a reason! Hope this helps.

  • Ok cool .. thanks. Its interesting.

  • Can you really mix anything with greens, fruit-wise? I have a tough time digesting a really diverse smoothie (say, apples, bananas, orange, blueberries, agave, and chard) but if I stick with a simple combo like apples, bananas, and chard (with a little agave) I can digest it just fine. Do you know why that is?

  • juusan77:

in food combining, fruits are further divided into different categories - maybe that's where you're running into problems.

  • a lot of fruit/green combos cause acid stomach and migraines. Some people are not bothered by this. Do u know what is safe if one is sensitive to these combos. I know apple is alkaline so thats an option.

  • I have never heard this before, I can't imagine why this would be the case. If I were sensitive in this way then I would simply keep the two separate.

  • It's a little hard to swallow pure ground up spinach/water. So it's kinda essential to find a good combo. This is actually very common. A variety of foods all digest in different ways & can be hard to digest all mixed together.

  • I didn't mean blended with water : ) just fruit as fruit and greens as greens, as part of a salad.

  • LOL! ooooohhhh! I am like, DUH...lol. The joys of internet conversation.

Yeah. That's what I'll have to do. Thanks for your replies and help. Blessings:)

  • Pl read GREEN FOR LIFE by victoria boutenko she explains why green leaves are not classified as vegetables so it is ok to mix kale, spinach swiss chard etc. with fruit. Hope this helps.

  • very nice presentation. everyone can enjoy this simple smoothie.

  • ... this has to be yummy ... just what i was looking for, too ...

    xoxo

  • there's my breakfast for tomorrow sorted, thanks Karen

  • I never thought of using mango. I think I will for lunch today!!!
