Born in '91, I grew up watching these films. They are just as awe-inspiring now as they were back then. It's no surprise I ended up in computer animation myself.
I actually was born in '92. So I remember this vividly at best. Regardless, these clips and the music they used by Jan Hammer has totally influenced my way of life. A true temperant. Now, mainly only listen to artists in the 20th century (with a few exceptions) and watch many television shows around that time. I want to thank the YTV crew (the staff that was involved in the early 90's that is) for this because just maybe I would have ended up like all my siblings who are just stupid and typical
@redfishradical Beyond the Mind's Eye was the first in the series to be released on DVD. As far as I can tell it appears to be a simple digital transfer of the laserdisc release.
i was born in 92 and for my first birthday gift of my entire life i got the 3 minds eye videos. i still have all 3 and im never letting go of them. they were incredible and i downloaded them onto my itouch so i can always be able to watch them. obviously im not even old enough to drink yet so dont get angry but...this takes me back too lol
Many years ago, man, (I sound ancient!) we had a channel on cable called the more music channel. They played a variety of videos which they also sold. Jan Hammer was on there with his Beyond the Mind's Eye tape (cd's were just starting). I was hooked on his music. The channel ended up being replaced with the History Channel. Miss this music and that channel. Thanks for posting these videos.
Funny. I was 10 when this came out and this "Windows" was my least favorite with my favorite being "Pyramid". Now it is my favorite. In fact I made a remake song from it.
Oh man this one always really hit me deep.. It was actually the only one in the video that visually depicted our world (contrary to 4th dimension landscapes and other fictional terrain) so there was this nostalgic connection I had with the aesthetics of the animation. Not to mention Jan Hammers score here is incredibly thought-provoking. I always thought the message was that 'Modern Art' is a product of creative stimulation from the same part of the brain that is accountable for our 'minds eye'
Still awesome after 15+ years... this and 'Seeds of Life' really grabbed my youthful attention. Reminds me of simple eighth grade pursuits, like staying up all night and playing Final Fantasy VI. The good old days.
One of the most striking, most evocative pieces of art I've ever seen. The images fit the hypnotic, almost transcendant melody perfectly. Love the entire project, but this song reached out & grabbed me the first time & never let go. I could put it on a loop & just let it run. Whether string quartet, hardrock/metal, accoustic guitar, solo piano, drum circle, jazz combo, choir or in this case something electronic: it's not the medium, it's the artist and what they create in it that matters. Peace
so in the end it turned out to be a room in the distant future (hence the magical bouncing ball art and spinning globe,) and all the deconstructed images of "modern" art were in fact a very far removed imagining of the past!
If you grew up in the 90's, like I did, you probably were treated to these on YTV. Every one of them was, and still are, a work of art that are mind blowing.
I used to think that the clip of the bird bashing through the ice to the fish was the best one... but I have to say, that this one takes the cake. Very inspiring.

There's something also very "adult" about this piece. I think it has largely to do with the music. Very "un-YTV" like.

That cigarette in an ashtray at 2:26 would not be shown on YTV today, that's for sure.

I still remember every single note of this song.

Remembering seeing these when I was 5-8. 15 years later..this is still amazing, and so much better than what we see on tv nowadays.

Ever since I was a kid, I've always wanted a room that would look exactly like the one at the end of this clip.
Someday I'll get it, someday...
