funny how the sig theme/animation is the element of this clip that elicits the most comments!!......i remember it quite clearly from when i was a kid(yes, i'm THAT old), as well as the logo that SG created a couple of years later--the infamous S From Hell!!.....sig themes are easy to take for granted when they're initially presented on TV, but it seems that they never really leave our memories as the years go on
this has the version of the Screen Gems "dancing sticks" logo w/o the announcer voiceover, which i prefer and which is a heck of a lot better than the version with the voiceover.
The music traack was used alone because Screen Gems was the television distirbutor, not the producer as in the case of the shows "announcing" "This has been a Screen Gems Presentation."
DLCORGANIZATION - couldn't agree more.....the "S From Hell" was far tamer to me than "The Dancing Sticks". That's not to insult those who found "S From Hell" truly scary - far from it. But "The Sticks" used to creep me out far worse than the "S"...imagine being 5 or 6 and seeing "The Sticks" by yourself in a darkened room.....Yeeks!!!!
@ottrr been there/done that with viewing sig themes in a darkened room when i was a kid!!.....great memories!!...when ya think about it, the Dancing Sticks were soooooo mid '60's, in both design and music(with Frank DeVoe composing that music, how can ya miss??)....definitely a creation of its time!!.......
If there was ever a way to give tribute to Hanna-Barbera or to Hoyt Curtin, it would be with one of their all-time greatest closing theme songs, combined with a dramatic heart-pounding, adrenaline-filled crescendo, leading right into an unsuspecting "unannounced" rendition of the Screen Gems 'Dancing Sticks' logo.
Let it be declared: The SG Dancing Sticks are scarier than the "S From Hell" and this closing (especially if you heard the vocals on it) is the creepiest of them all.
"'THE PETER POTAMUS SHOW' has been presented by- I...DEAL TOYS! They're wonderful toys- they're IDEAL!". The lyrics {join in!}: "He's so debonair, flying through the air, with a flair that is real, He's been everywhere, has that certain air, and that certain appeal, Peter Potamus has the charm he could never conceal, We'll say so long, Peter Potamus, Our ideal! [:30] LOOK OUT! [:37] WATCH IT! [:41] And there he goes, Peter Potamus, OUR IDEAL!" "A Screen Gems Presentation".
Foreign distribution print -- No point in having English language lyrics or even the end voice over Screen Gems tag if the people watching this print don't speak English.
But really beautiful color for a print that had to have been struck originally in the winter of 1965, when Columbia was still using that Screen Gems logo
I'm wondering if this is possibly a print exported to Canadian stations/networks. From my own memories the Screen Gems "S from Hell" logo didn't make it's initial appearance on Canadian stations until the fall of 1966, a year after it made it's debut on Screen Gems shows in the U.S. (Shows such as Gidget, the first season of I Dream of Jeannie etc had the "Dancing Sticks" logo on Canadian TV). It could very possibly be a foreign market print which could explain no voice-over.

Just for the record, Terry -- his name is Frank DeVOL.
Also, how do you know it was DeVol who composed the Dancing Sticks theme?

@DLCOrganization let's try taking ourselves a little less seriously, okay buddy?

Terry, you've got me all wrong.
I'm just correcting you in regards to the composer's name.
It is DeVol. Also, I was merely inquiring how you know for sure
that it was DeVol, especially since most people don't know WHO
composed the "Dancing Sticks" theme, and also I heard it was
ANOTHER composer from a conversation I had years ago.
I just want to know where you got the info. No harm, no foul.
Relax. It's just me.

This is an interesting clip, as I've not ever seen/heard the Signature Tune *sans vocals:..
The 'Dancing Sticks' bit...is *still* ugly, with or without the voiceover...period.
Ennyroad, thanx fer this, m8's..

@BadNews88 I agree that the Dancing Sticks logo is ugly and uninspiring. but the DeVol fanfare is contagious.

Note that the font on the end credits was different than the one used for the other Hanna-Barbera shows at that time.

@DLCOrganization yeah, ol' Frank DeVoe certainly earned his pay when he composed that sig music!!

A rare ending to a Hanna-Barbera cartoon show, despoiled by the disturbing "evil sticks" Screen Gems logo.

Poor Hoyt Curtin. He doesn't get a credit.
I don't recall this ending at all. I guess it's some later syndicated version that omits any Ideal Toys credit.

No, Markieo....
It would be more like
"Una Presentación de Screen Gems".

Where did you get this print? The theme has no lyrics, and the Screen Gems logo has no announcer. Was it a print for foreign-language markets?
