There seems to be some confusion. The Astra here is a Turbo Coupe (Old shape, Astra G) They handle very well, have less power than the VXR and ST but are much lighter. I currently run an Astra (H) SRI turbo and have no bother with Focus ST's in the handling, very close on acceleration. I'm in Devon and the roads are not in great shape, the best entertainment is following a Civic type R and watch them trying to keep it on the road. Whatever you drive enjoy!
lol...it is far too obious the st driver backed away a bit, as the astra OPC only just beats the focus st by a bit, but this is the vxr astra, which is slower than the st, plus the focus RS is much faster than both astras, opc and vxr so ford wins...
Interesting, the focus ST is only 0.2 of a second slower to 60 and 0-100 the ST is actually about a second faster so if anything this video is the wrong way around. However, when my ST was standard it was pretty much like for like between the 2. The Astra would get ahead to 80 but then i'd get in its slip stream and start pulling it back. Thus this video is a tad fishy.
I've got an ST225 unmodified and I have had a go with a couple of Astra VXR's (live in UK) and something isn't right here either that astra is modified or the ST slowed because whilst the VXR's got the best of me in the end I was always tucked behind them and they certainly never left me and I'm not exactly a race driver so in my opinion this video doesn't really count for me.
Never mind watched this guys other video and it appears this Astra is 260BHP, in the other video he goes up against another standard ST and get's smoked to third gear check it in the related videos it's called "Opel Astra Coupe vs another Ford Focus ST 225 - I won't comment on wether the money was well spent on the extra BHP ;)
This is not an Astra VXR(240hp) nor is it in the other video it is an Astra Coupe turbo stock makes either 141kw or 147kw depending on the model but it is obviously not stock

ok astra opc's acceleration: 6,4 s to focus st: 6,8s! but its maybe just the weight or the adjustment of the transmission! Because the 2,5 l engine of st got more power than 2,0 from opc! and btw...the ST is more beautiful!

Ive driven an stra vxr nurburgring the 260 bhp edition, it was very quick until i reached a corner, very hard to modulate the throttle with the unresponsive laggy engine. The focus st all though slower in a straight line has alot more drivability more responsive better handling. Put them both on a track and the ST will win. Ofcourse i have driven the focus aswell. Also if you watch top gear it shows the astra nurburgring getting beaten in a real race.
its only a G-astra, i think a 2 l turbo with 200 hp . the new astra H opc have a 2,2 l turbo with 244 hp and is the rival of the focus ST.But the 2 l turbo can be chiped to 290 hp without problems and than u cant beat the astra with your focus!
but you can with a focus rs or an old skool cosworth tuned to 480bhp or higher. now type this into google and youtube and try to keep the drool in ur mouth. do ur reserch properly. nuff said..

Th St time in 2005 for Nordschleife was 8:51 and the OPC time in 2005 was 8:35. Im sure the St went to Nordschleife on the second attempt almost one year after the OPC set the record and im sure with many updates and only manage to match the time of the astra OPC @ 8:35. So what will happen on the OPC's second attempt ?

This lap-time is from late 2006 or 2007, so it took around one year to ST. Focus II is 2005 modell, ST started nearly a year later. I know enought about both cars, enought to say what am i saying. Show me one opel car in WRC races... it shows everything

Right-hand drive... isn't this a Vauxhall? I love both cars, and have driven the ST225. The problem they both face is that 200+bhp in a fwd cannot be fully used from a standstill! Focus is miles better than that astra, there is no competition, that "vauxhall" has no real body work engineering which means, throw that onto a track and the focus wud run rings round it.. like that guy below correctly sed. and NO and astra VXR isnt better, same rules apply, faster in straight line, not around a track which is wat its for.

The ST is easily the best, the Astra is only good at going in a straight line, put a few curves in the road and the ST would leave the Astra dead in the water,and thats what a hot hatch is all about, its not at all about straight line speed....
Both cars are very good. I prefer the Ford ST. But I admit it was way slower in this race.
An Astra OPC is what really kicks ass...I think that an OPC could kill even a VW Golf R32, which costs a LOT MORE than any of these (Astra/Focus/Megane RS,etc. hot hatches).
I have a opel astra cuope turbo and the interior aint that bad. The st3 has the best interior but what about the 1 and 2 wich cost a lil less cus its just cheap interior. besides the astra looks better in my opinion, well cusi have one but the st wouldnt kick the astras ass, just depends who gets the better start. there only have a sec difference between 0-60 times so i mean the astra if standard isnt that bad considering it has less power and weighs bout the same.

Watch this watch?v=ytGT47mDk9s video. You will see the The Astra beats the Focus ST with 260hp on track. Which tells us the Astra VXR/OPC handles the power at the front wheels better than the Focus ST and although it was 20hp down it still beat the Focus so even modding the focus doesnt help. Astra with less power beat Focus with more power. LOL You Ford nuts cant say the astra has more power thats why its faster and the ST handles better. And yes in the vid it is a Astra coupe not VXR/OPC

wasn't a competition at all.Or ST even not tryed that, or opel was seriously tunned, having at least 80-100hp plus.Check the movie with ST and Astra OPC by a 400m acceleration.Was a very very close race (and still OPC had more hp).But on circuits, on Nordschleife, ST was quicker than OPC, even the second have had a compact car record at that time (2005)

Th St time in 2005 for Nordschleife was 8:51 and the OPC time in 2005 was 8:35. Im sure the St went to Nordschleife on the second attempt almost one year after the OPC set the record and im sure with many updates and only manage to match the time of the astra OPC @ 8:35. So what will happen on the OPC's second attempt ?

ye, with rocket thrusters lol.... and if nothing would fall out from the engine haha. Standard ST has got better Nordshleife time and krysatyu still cannot believe that. Go to mother baby. The only one upgrade there was experienced, race driver, not normal one like at the first time.

This lap-time is from late 2006 or 2007, so it took around one year to ST. Focus II is 2005 modell, ST started nearly a year later. I know enought about both cars, enought to say what am i saying. Show me one opel car in WRC races... it shows everything

Well mate i can say the same thing about that Ford thing, i don`t see it in the touring car where it really matters matey. The VXR was 3 years champion and still kicking arse.
I have a Vxr 2006 and i can assure you that the new ST 2008 starts to appear in my rear view mirror and that`s from stand still and if you going to tell me it`s not so then you obviously still riding you`r dad`s bicycle mate or i can tell you that the earth is flat you do believe that don`t you!!!!.....

Lol I still havent seen any proof of the the St lap at nurburgring even till today while the opc laptime video is all over the net. But i still never said that st time was not true. And just matching a record set 3years ago is nothing to be happy about just shows ford technicans are 3 years behind opels. :-P

Right-hand drive... isn't this a Vauxhall? I love both cars, and have driven the ST225. The problem they both face is that 200+bhp in a fwd cannot be fully used from a standstill! I'd rather have the Astra VXR I reckon. The Focus driver here is a cheating tart, you don't pull away on amber in a drag race.

The Nurburgring which is the ultimate test track for performance handling of production cars. Opel Astra OPC time = 8:35 Ford ST = 8:51. So how the FU@k can you say the OPC is fast only in a straight and that the Ford is has better handling and track performance. What bullshit you cant argue with the numbers on the track the Opc is too fast for the ST.

Supercars. net search for Nurburgring lap times both cars we tested stock. There is a huge list of lap times for this track. The Opel Astra Opc is the world record holder in the compact class at the nurburgring. (stock)

It was standard Focus. That's all what can i say to the funny donkey, which lives in his own world. Upgrated Focus would have less then 8:25. Chacked that on swedish, polish, czech, german, spanish sides... everywhere :) Check this by yourselve if you are so smart. I'm not going to say that Focus is absolutely better, but could be faster with good driver and we have proof.

Listen Mutt at the time of my post those were the official lap times of the OPC and the ST. Back in 2005. The new time for the ST is much more recent. My comments to those other 2 Ford nuts was that The OPC is just as Fast if not better on Track than the ST. So please grow up and Get a Life. If you are getting your lap times from fastestlaps . com then you an @SS.

The ST is easily the best, the Astra is only good at going in a straight line, put a few curves in the road and the ST would leave the Astra dead in the water,and thats what a hot hatch is all about, its not at all about straight line speed....

Both cars are very good. I prefer the Ford ST. But I admit it was way slower in this race.
An Astra OPC is what really kicks ass...I think that an OPC could kill even a VW Golf R32, which costs a LOT MORE than any of these (Astra/Focus/Megane RS,etc. hot hatches).

I have a opel astra cuope turbo and the interior aint that bad. The st3 has the best interior but what about the 1 and 2 wich cost a lil less cus its just cheap interior. besides the astra looks better in my opinion, well cusi have one but the st wouldnt kick the astras ass, just depends who gets the better start. there only have a sec difference between 0-60 times so i mean the astra if standard isnt that bad considering it has less power and weighs bout the same.
